It's not odd. I don't like Rarity x Applejack, or any mane six x mane six ships, in FiM, but in Equestria Girls I kinda ship them, and I ship Sunset with Sci-twi (though I ship her with pony Twilight too, but that doesn't count as mane six x mane six ship, as one is from the mane six and the other from the mane seven).

@@mishussy yes. The human world counterparts of ponies are not the same characters. Twilight was born and raised in equestria, learned magic and became an alicorn, Sci Twi was born in the human world, never learned magic, and becomes a unicorn instead of an alicorn if she enters equestria (as seen in the specials). They don't share the same history, and are completely separate beings despite the similarities. The same is true for every character except the dazzlings and maybe sunset as we've never seen her counterpart so she might not have one.

I've seen these types of comments too much aaa
I know straightforward representation in kids shows is what we need, but I kind of like how for ships like these, they leave it up to the audience to decide if things are platonic or romantic. They even do the same thing with hetero relationships. I think the real reason they didn’t take the ship any further is because it, like most relationships involving the main protagonists, would’ve messed with the overall story that is trying to be told. No to mention mlp’s fanbase can get out of hand when it comes to cannon ships. I think the creators portrayed their romance quite well.
The fun of being a shipper sometimes finding the lil tidbits!
I think we need both confirmed ships to show that these things can be ok and normal and also have some be more implicit as a way of saying, this is a close connection first. Also shipping. Shipping is fun.
And at the end of the day, this show IS for kids and I think this relates more to how a kid would experience a first crush/relationship.

I remember being a kid and these characters were shipped heavily. FlutterDash is also another popular ship, and back then i really think it was cute and there were no issues whatsover. Watching these videos again takes me back to that nostalgic feeling, any ships are valid as long as you're not hurting or offending anyone. I really hope people respect these kinds of categories.
I think i secretly had these ships, especially Flutterdash, without even realizing it as a child because I simply couldn't understand that. I was very naive as a child. I didn't even have my first crush until 7th grade. However , looking back I do recall having some sort of intuition about it. It's like a weird nostalgia.

I rarely like to ship in fictional shows (especially shows for all ages), but it was obvious the fanservice in this special regarding Rarijack and Flutterdash (not that I’m complaining tho).
I actually like to ship them, I think they, ironically, have a lot of chemistry in their characters even though they’re complete opposites (they’re also good friends in the pony world, but there are lots of “Rarijack” scenes in EG, not just this special, but the movies and mini episodes too).
I mean, there’s even that episode where Rarity had a crush on a male version of AJ, which clearly says a lot about the crew and how they (silently) listened to the fandom shipping them (thus the fanservice).
As for the pony counterparts, I’ve always felt AJ and RD were closer than in the human world.
Edit; 2 years and I still miss FiM and EG… I just hope G5 will be as great and, at least, to receive an explanation of what happened after all that time (for both the pony & human worlds).

The voice acting for the girls is especially good, I gotta say. Tabitha St Germain adds such flavor to Rarity. It's like the decade or so of voice work really made her fine tune the voice.
