- This is an extract from the 1967 Ford film 'Nine Days in Summer' which charts the development and racing performance that year of the Lotus 49.
This section of the film covers the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on 15 July 1967. Team Lotus had Jim Clark and Graham Hill driving in Lotus 49s. This was the first competitive outing for the Lotus 49 R3, which is on display in the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu. The R3 was built overnight before the race. Hill led the race for some before having to retire with engine problems on the 64th lap. Clark went on to take the chequered flag in the Lotus 49 R2. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ

He was the finest driver of his generation.
Was there at Beckets, corner, as always, Jim Clark was unbeatable, the greatest driver I have ever witnessed in my life. Met him in paddock in 63. Such a lovely gentleman. ! A part of me died when Jim died. !!!!!
These 4 1/2 minutes are more rewarding to watch than an entire race weekend of today’s F1 spectacle…
Great vid. I had the pleasure and privilege of spending about half an hour in Graham Hill's motorhome a short time before he took part in the 1975 British GP (Silverstone). His wife Betty made me a coffee while Graham sat opposite me and started chatting. I remember looking at his name embossed on his overalls - along with his blood group. He was a truly magical guy. He and Betty made me feel so at ease & it was an experience I will never forget. In fact it feels like yesterday since this meeting took place. I was 12 yrs young yet Graham treated me with such respect it blew me away. I was humbled beyond belief. Thank you Dave Buller (Hesketh Team - mechanic) for making this wonderful event take place. An amazing experience and a dream come true for a young lad - who was utterly in love with Formula One. I had many fantastic encounters with the Grand Prix fraternity back then. One day I will write a book about my experiences. Those memories still give me goose bumps. Happy days.

As a 11 year old kid I remember chatting to Graham Hill and Jackie Stewart at the London motor racing show, they both signed my programme and handed over some stickers for the soapbox 😅

JIM CLARK - By far the greatest driver ever - no doubt. He is and was "The Best of the Best" (Fangio and Senna about Clark). No other driver in history until today was so superior as Clark - No other driver as so much "Grand Slam" - Pole/Win/Fastest Lap/Leading every lap of the race - like him. And all that from just 72 starts... !
This man is the Olymp of driving - the Michelangelo of racing - a dynamic art at the highest level. So smooth, so precise, so fast....simply out of this world. One, who won in Spa by 5 minutes (!) in monsoon rain with only one hand at the wheel (!) because of gearbox trouble...One, who takes back a complete lap (!) in Monza and back into the lead... One, who took pole on the original 22,8 km Nürburgring track by 9 (!) seconds and more....One who won Indy by 2 whole (!) laps...For eternity and by lightyears unmatched in the sport. That`s just four examples of his mesmeric unique genius...

Remember that day very well. Drove down with a mate in my Spitfire, parked trackside at Abbey, perfect hot day.Watched a super F3 race won by Alan Rollinson, then the saloon car race with Minis and Imps dicing with Camaros, Galaxies, Mustangs. Walked right round the circuit watching the GP, ending up at Club, onto the circuit after the finish, as that truck with a waving Jimmy Clark crawled past. Last time I saw him. A perfect day.
WE drove up for this great GP from London.
We had 'gold' paddock passes. Go anywhere and the pits. No pop stars, no bimbos and no Royalty. Five quid each.I had photographs of Graham, Clarke, Jochen Rindt and Colin Chapman standing about six feet away.Wouldn't bother now.
Great video. Watching the demise of Cooper and Maserati never to be a force in F-1 ever again.

@@prakis1958 - I'm not, and I wouldn't be posting comments here if I was, because he sadly died in 1975, but I was born just a couple of miles away from him. My comment wasn't criticism. I just wondered why so many people spell his name with an "e" on the end.
It just seems more "British"! I stand by my comment. He and the car were beautiful. My favorite.

Used to love that timed siren noise prior to the start and the dummy grid moving up to the main grid......really built up the atmosphere nicely. Why not reintroduce the winner's garland, so fantastic. Great memories and got me into a lifelong love of Scalextric and slot car racing!!!
The days when cars looked different , were different, sounded different AND had the driver number very clearly displayed and their name !

The genius of Clark winning again. Silverstone still looking like the old airfield that it was, before it lost its character and became the modern track it is now.
Start commando with the British flag, what a great time that was! No high sophisticated nonsense needed. Nowadays they need computer controlled lights to start, dashboards on the steering wheel, radio, 5000 sensors on the car and 500 engineers for each car to move it on the track, oh an yes still one pilot, but will be soon replaces by a robot ...

Because it's on film. Majority of 80s footage is from TV cameras and recorded on analog magnetic tape.
This is a Ford promotional film not TV coverage.
Amazing how they still used tires with profile and no slicks.

So awful, and frankly so ridiculous, that the uniquely brilliant Jimmy was killed before the next British GP.
What happened to Bandini at Monaco is tragedy. Grossjean had good technology. Bandini lived for a week. The film is not pleasant to watch.
Safety back then was incidental. Bandini was a classy guy - such a shame.

I thought irritating and unnecessary music was a modern curse but here it’s even worse and unsuitable too!
It does seem rather jaunty for motor racing, like "Ooh isn't this jolly fun, everyone out for a drive."
