    The long-awaited return of Sex and the City got me itching to hunt out patterns from the show. Retitled "And Just Like that" the show is back in New York checking in on Miranda, Carrie and Charlotte. Sadly no Samatha - sob sob. Now in their mid-fifties, the show follows them dealing with adult children, becoming a widower and much more. I've been on the hunt and found some pretty close pattern matches to my favourite looks from the show.

    That jacket with an asymmetrical line reminded me of a very smart suit jacket that my mother made me in 1983, as my wedding ‘going away’ suit (i.e. the suit I wore when we departed for our honeymoon). It was a Vogue pattern, and I think it might have been an Yves Saint Laurent design with asymmetric jacket and pencil skirt. It was made up in a shot pink/blue silk (so the effect was like a lilac colour). The neckline was round, and the sleeves plain, but the bodice was very similar.
    Edited to say I’m not sure about YSL being the designer. I just checked and the label my mother sewed into it just says ‘Original Paris Design’. Yes, I still have the suit, even though the last time I wore it was at my youngest son’s christening, and that was 30 years ago!

    Great vlog thank you - lovely patterns. As a MASSIVE SATC fan back in the day I’ve not been able to bring myself to watch this - I fear it will cringe me out like the last movie 😬

    For Charlotte’s first white blouse (where she is walking the dog), there is a blouse in Simplicity 5359 that I have made. Yes, it’s part of a belly dance costume sewing pattern. The blouse was easy to make but has longer sleeves. The neckline is the same.

    Outstanding. The fabrications and styling make such a difference. Pat Fields continues to create a wonderful wildness for the Carrie character which contrasts so well with her besties! I didn't watch SATC so I probably would not watch the JLT follow along. But, maybe with sound off? I would love a Pat Fields book retrospective!!
    As always thanks Kate. You are a joy from across the world

    Thank you for a great, highly anticipated (by me at least) edition. I was a huge SATC fan, and can still watch old episodes, so was looking forward to watching And Just Like That. I thought the first 2 episodes were not quite as good as SATC, but as the weeks have gone on I think they've grown into their roles and its good to see that you can be stylish and enjoy life well into your 50's. I already have a few if these patterns, and while I never thought I was a Charlotte, most of the ones I have were hers🤣🤔. Thanks again👏👏👏👏

    Closer to Cynthia’s Helmut Lang jacket are the Vogue 8205 and the New Look 6633, I think. They don’t have the assymetry but a better match for the neckline and maybe you could just cut the front panels wider to extend further across.

  • @dawnabbey762
    @dawnabbey762 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was looking through patterns on Minerva and spied the Kwiksew 3531 which I think is a similar jacket to the one Miranda is wearing and I know you said you struggled to find a match. This one is pretty close although your Vogue one is great too. Thanks for the video Kate, it really helps to bring the high end fashion a little closer to home and makes sewing a little more special I think.

    The big sleeve, slim dress (with no waist seam) that Carrie was wearing, at about halfway in the video. Could be done really nicely with Friday Pattern Company Adrianna with a bit of length added to bring it below the knee.

  • @alewis2812
    @alewis2812 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I wish you did a very plus size addition to this. Most companies go up to an American 32/34. If a company goes up to 20w and that's your only option... lots of people are excluded.

    Actually, Patricia Field was NOT involved in the reboot due to commitments with Emily in Paris. The other stylists who worked under Patricia Field are. I think her absence really showed, unfortunately. Beautiful dresses, horrible styling.

    • @NicolaTexeira
      @NicolaTexeira 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Molly Rogers has taken over from Patricia Field. I love the styling. It fits with where the characters are now however the storylines and cultural representation/ accuracy leave a lot to be desired. Episode 9 redeemed it but only just.
