- Gaze within the beautiful Gem Amber of the Baltic Sea to discover fossil insects, mystery finds, and the incredible hidden worlds of the amber's secret gardens. Some of the amazing inclusions are viewable by the naked eye, but with the aid of a microscope and some wonderful photography, we can peer deep into time standing still from about 40 to 50 million years ago!

Amber wasn't a big deal to me until I stumbled across Jarek and Amberscape, now I think it's so fascinating. Thanks for taking me on the tour of the hidden world inside your amber.

Never thought of Amber to much, but you peaked my interest. I loved the twig one.
The amber does fly under the radar if it's not something you can find in your area or you don't have access to it. At a Tucson Gem Show, I fell in love with it, the gems were gorgeous but the fossils were the slam dunk. Two great tastes that taste great together 🤣. It's worth looking into if you get a chance. None of this at all possible without your generous box! It was a humbling experience working with the few pieces I worked into this video, there's so much to learn. The specimens are drop dead gorgeous even without inclusions! You know there's the big, juicy hunk to work with, the photography is a huge learning curve so I saved that for the next one. Interesting thought! It may help before getting into the amber for polishing, I've got some wintergreen oil (similar enough, it's used as refractol for sunstone assessment) I'll give it a try. After you polish the amber, it's got it's own incredible clarity that helps the viewing and photography. The piece at 4:15 was thin, heavily coated with rind, and looked like it wouldn't even be good for 'gem' amber (being so cloudy). It turns out to have that perfect thin section of wood AND the wiggly, worm-like fungi, that's what made it cloudy! Just when you think you have a dud, it turns out to be the coolest! I think that was the sabre-tooth fruit fly, believed to mainly subsist on elderberries. While large, their wings were unable to sustain long periods of flight, so they formed a symbiotic relationship with an early ancestor of the hamster, Montycleese monesi. In seriousness, is it possible the UFO (unidentified fossilized object) is the fruiting body of a moss?
Lol, Ken! Indeed, I've been hoping to find the sabre toothed fruit fly! I'd love to see one riding its hamster to get around 😂. I love the idea of the fruiting moss. I think you're bang on, that structure has a familiar feeling. I need to pursue that plant direction and do more research. Thanks again for watching!

That's awesome! I'd totally do the same. At one point in time, I was sure I was going to become an entomological illustrator, that's how much I love them bugs. This Amber is a few of my passions rolled into one (fossils, bugs, gems, cutting/polishing, science, microscopy, etc!). When you work the amber, it smells like incense, that's the cherry on the sunday, lol. Thanks for watching!
