Another super cool bed design in this week's van tour, this time from Ryan & Kate. I really love the way the bed converts to create a massive daytime seating / chill / work / dining area! I also really like the way they've done their hidden loo, as well as the epic kitchen set up, even complete with microwave!

I love your channel and have spent hours watching people show off their alternative tiny homes and nomad lifestyles, but to be frank, after seeing the 20 second ad for outdoorsey and the fact you used a pinned comment to also advertise your Van Conversion guide makes me wonder if you're getting a bit to commercial? I love the bed. I would paint a mural or do some kind of art on the underside, so when it is folded up it would be more attractive and make a better looking living area. I like the layout a lot.

  • @DuncanJimmy

I'd have thought the mattress would become uneven as a result of being folded, though I spent a couple of years on a super plush queen-size futon that doubled as a sofa and it never developed any problems. Love seeing the ingenious ways people save space, and their techniques are brilliant.

Wow. That is the best idea for easily getting rid of the bed for some premium dining/entertaining space. So simple and you can use the white wall as a screen projector for movies! I am going to redo my fixed bed, based on this, for sure. Lots of seating for having family/friends over is something most van lifers don't talk about. But if you truly want your van to be a home, it has to include a way to host people important to you.

This is a really great build. I dont know about anyone else, but I think it's a brilliant idea to have your water fill on the inside of your back door like you did. That prevents anyone from contaminating your water. Most water fills I've noticed do not have locks on them. So anyone could put anything in there. These days you can't be too careful. The only thing that I can see missing is an indoor shower. I definitely prefer an indoor over an outdoor shower. That way I can take a shower no matter what the weather is outside. The only other storage that I can think of that you could add to this would be on the floor between the benches. That would fit a lot of can goods, and provide a step up at the same time. Great job on this build!

Nice to see the stove in a drawer being used. I am thinking of building that way and was worried because I had not seen it anywhere else.

    • @chrisplatten2293
      @chrisplatten2293 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@arjanschild3552 A valid point if it goes all the way across like the one in this video. I plan for mine to go just half way across the sliding door. Also I can still get out via the front as the bench double has been replaced with a single seat.
I plan to have a dual burner in the drawer with a cut-out in the worktop above. If just boiling water for tea, then I can lift the cut out. when I need more countertop, I can open the drawer and leave the cut-out in place. I may also add an option for a countertop extension to be used with the drawer pushed in, with or without the cut-out removed. I am still building, so this is all theory that may fall apart when I mock it up with some scrap wood. I will be the first to admit that some of my 'great' ideas turn out to be not so 'great' after all.

I love that trick with the Velcro on the back of the little tiles. I’m quite indecisive at times and I sometimes find it difficult to choose a colour scheme, so it’s a good way to test out different colours, but also works rather nicely as a way of changing things around from time to time. I think I’d have been inclined to put a fairly thin basic piece of metal or plastic as a one piece splash-back and then have lots of those smaller Velcro tiles over the top - it could maybe be done with magnets on a metal back splash and then you could choose different layouts as the mood takes you. I’d probably settle on 3 complementary tile colours once I’d had a bit of time to see the different colours in the van and just lay them out in different patterns from time to time. I’m wondering if there could be other uses for this clever technique!

Garage? I thought the same thing.
It is true. You can't fit a noremal sized car in there.
I would also call it a basement.
You should install the slides and have easier access to the basement items.

Small improvement: put shelves on the door in the kitchen - that leads to the gas, where the cleaning supplies were, to maximize the space into that small area.

Yes I’m so glad someone else has done this spice rack layout. I’ve seen people do it on the front of the fridge but this just makes so much more sense to me!!

The is our rice we cook it on the stove by adding water and heating it. This is our blanket it keeps us warm at night and has an interchangeable cover so we can wash it when it gets dirty.

@Tom Luscombe Excessive snark report. ☹ Give 'em a break. They put a lot of work into the van, they did a great job, and they're proud of it. A heck of a lot better than many others that I've viewed. The only thing I missed seeing was whether they had a heater or not.

@@stevenemert837 i would have liked to see more details about the folding bed which is a great design and in the title of the video but there were very few details about this.

Don't pull the pins all the way out. Otherwise the drawers will explode. Once a spoon is ejected from a drawer, you have 3 seconds!
