One thing I love about the classic SpongeBob episodes is that there is barely any background music during most of the scenes. When all you hear is the characters talking and underwater noises and silence It adds to the comedy. Something I noticed watching any new episode post the first movie. Watch a new episode and there's zero room for silence, like they are trying so hard to get a kid's attention. constant switches of background tracks its gets very annoying to sit through

Fun fact 1: Plankton’s voice actor, Mr.Lawrence originally auditioned for SpongeBob using Plankton’s voice, what he called a Tony the Tiger impression. He made the crew laugh so hard they had to cast him as Plankton later on. He also has some writing credits on a few episodes.
Fun Fact 2: the voice actor for the computer in Plankton’s lab, whose name is Karen is Tom Kenny’s wife, the voice actor of SpongeBob.

It's crazy how much I quote "Shut your mouth you mediocre clarinet player" and "This is my lab, and this is my laboratory!" when that episode never even crosses my mind as a favorite or anything. Even in the most under the radar episodes of the first three seasons there's classic bits.

@@Loner098to be fair he plays pretty loud…. In SB-129 he walked pretty far from SpongeBob and Patrick’s primitive ancestors but they still heard him playing it. It’s not that crazy to assume plankton could hear it all the way from the chum bucket.
I think the brilliance of Plankton’s character is he’s clearly a scientific genius and could be successful in that field, but he’s so simple minded and an egomaniac, and obsessed with outdoing Krabs and stealing the Secret Formula that it makes him a perfect comedic villain.
And then we later find out why he is so obsessed with the formula and we find out he is the epitome of "Petty on Main" and it becomes even funnier.
He literally has a single brain cell

So, I don't drive, but I think the reason Spongebob is considered to be cheating is that a driving test isn't just a test of one's ability to control an automobile, it's also to make sure they actually know what to do in different driving situations.. Patrick was telling him every step which means Spongebob wasn't applying anything he might have learned in boating school. He was just following directions. I hope that makes sense.
Yeah, you’re right. Think of it this way:
Would you trust someone behind the wheel with a driver’s license if they could only properly function on the road with someone in their ear? Driving requires a lot of attention already, and following directions on a road would go much differently than following directions on a safe little obstacle course.

Squibward is still unnecessarily an asshole, despite it being understandable sometimes.

When I first started learning to drive. I was too hard on the pedals and would jerk the car too much. Then I remembered "big toe" from this episode and it honestly helped me go easier on the gas and brake.

Funny thing about the whole Boating school thing. Some Nick executives at the time wanted Spongebob to be doing stuff involving a school setting in some episodes, but Stephen Hillenburg didn’t like the idea since Spongebob is suppose to be a adult. But after some time thinking Hillenburg made a compromise of sorts, rather then being in a normal school Spongebob instead would be going to a driving school, so Nick can have spongebob in the occasional school setting while the school itself would be something an adult would be involved in.
Hearing the my leg guy again just threw me into a laughing fit, its one of my favorite gags.

I love how, aside from the REALLY big one, we only see the one jellyfish through the episode.
Plankton gets bigger in later episodes, they probably decided there's too much dialogue between him and other characters that there'd be too many scenes of characters just staring at the ground lol
I remember seeing something saying like Plankton was originally gonna have a running trend of people using magnifying objects to see him but that was dropped

According to the show, Mr. Krabs and Plankton used to be best friends until they got into a fight about who was going to take the business opportunity after creating the recipe and got to the point where they fought over it, tearing the recipe in half so Mr. Krabs got one end and Plankton got the other but it's the former who got the better half and even accidently improved it so they've been fighting about it ever since
Nope, their recipe sucked and all the ingredients fell into the batter but only Mr Krabs was around to see it

It’s cheating because you’re getting outside help during an official exam. I thought that was obvious. You aren’t allowed to have that kind of help during any kind of official exam. Also you need to prove yourself capable of driving on your knowledge alone.
Yeah, as an aside, it's worrying how people these days may somehow fail to understand the cheating aspect of what they were doing. A lot of tests aren't just about "doing the task". They're about knowing how to do them on your own and when. If someone else has to tell you when you have right-of-way, or when to make a turning signal, or what to do at certain signs/lights, then you're not really qualified to drive.

Exactly. And also if he has anxiety driving, how is he ever going to be able to drive without Patrick while he's on the actual main road? Like you said, Spongebob needs to be able to drive on his own or else he's going to cause car accidents whenever he drives and Patrick isn't around to guide him.
I wouldn't use the word "cheating" to describe what SpongeBob and Patrick did, but he still should've failed the test for getting help. If Mrs. Puff passes him, he is licensed to drive, not "licensed to drive as long as Patrick is instructing you". He could get his license with Patrick helping him, but be dangerous af on the roads alone.
Go to your local DMV and ask if you can take the test with a friend backseat driving, because you don't think you can pass it without him, as long as you promise to always have that friend with you when you're driving in the future. See what they say.
I would love to say the reason SpongeBob fails His driving test is because He can't work under pressure too much of it makes You freak out and panic causing You to drive bad or do something that causes the problems.
i was curious to see how many episode spongebob have, and the results shocked me, there are 293, and the show is still running (season 13 ATM)
It doesn't have 293 at the moment, but will do by the time Season 13 ends. We are very close to that (most recent episode was 'Spatula of the Heavens' and that's 290a)
yeah although for most people, Spongebob ended in Season 3 (its best season)
Our current plan is go to season 3, then the movie and stop. Unless the community wants us to keep going.

It’s definitely made out of Crab. U don’t see any other Crabs besides Mr. Krabs and his mother. Not to mention the Krusty Krab is literally in the shape of a crab trap. It’s a very well known theory but I find it hard to believe it not to be true. And I was shocked he caught onto it so fast but I guess when u watch it as an adult u catch the adult jokes that were hid (like the time SpongeBob was clearly watching adult stuff on the tv).

Imagine this, that Patrick tells him what to do to pass his driving test. Then when he actually gets his license and drives on the open road, he’s gonna have no idea what to do because now he doesn’t have Patrick, it never came from his own knowledge so he still can’t drive on his own. He needs to prove that HE can pass the test with his own ability, no help.
That’s why it’s cheating.

The boating episode, I consider that to be cheating. You have to learn all that by yourself, you can’t expect someone to tell you what to do when you’re driving on an actual road (in spongebobs case) it’s best to learn so that you won’t cause any trouble and follow the rules and ways of driving.

There's many theories as to what the Crabby Pattys secret is including:
Crab meat patties
No secret ingredient just all hype
A special spice blend
Red algae patties (my personal favourite because it sounds cool)
But as far as i know there has never been a definitive canonical answer as to what the secret formula is.

Definitely not throwing shade at the gang, but I've noticed Spongebob in general always seems to trip people up. Similarly illogical things happen in shows like Animaniacs, Ren and Stimpy, Looney Toons, etc.. Yet Spongebob always gets the "how is x happening underwater?!" comments! The answer of course being that they're wacky zany cartoons! ;)

It’s a well known theory tho and it makes so much sense to be the case (it’s not the same as the McDonalds thing u mentioned). And I was shocked when he caught onto this theory only like 3 episodes in. Shows u that u don’t think about it when your little but since he’s older he can catch onto it (It’s most likely true because of this). Cause theirs adult jokes here and there and u don’t think about it when your little but catch onto it when your little. For example the time SpongeBob was watching the tv and he was clearly watching adult stuff cause he immediately turned the channel and freaked out when Gary came up to him (and the way he was watching it).

Spongebob can't exactly have Patrick guide him through driving every time he gets behind the wheel. THAT'S why what he did in the test is cheating; he's not actually qualified to drive on his own.
Yeah it's weird they thought it wasn't. On a real driving exam, it's not like you're allowed to have someone tell you when to go for a left turn on an intersection, how to turn the wheel when parallel parking, etc. You have to know what to do and when to do it, not just perform the mechanical actions.

Not a spoiler because it's only been stated outside the show, but in an interview in 2017 one of the producers stated that the show creator, Stephen Hillenburg, let it slip in studio that the Krabby Patties are vegetarian, no animal products are used in the making of the burger. As to what plants it is made of, the world may never know
We know that the Krabby Patties are 100% vegetarian. In an interview the creator, or Tom Kenny (the voice of SpongeBob and other characters), I don’t really remember who, said that the Patties are not meat of any kind.

No one works at the chum bucket except Plankton. In fact, Plankton barely worked there at all in the first 3 seasons. He's so focused on his evil plots we never actually SEE him manager a restaurant.
A bit of spoilers (kind of, more like what you should expect) for how the show changes in season 4 in terms of direction.
Several characters get Flanderized, and while there are worse examples, Plankton's is the weirdest. They flanderize something that was barely there, managing a restaurant. Rather than the joke being of how Plankton could run a business if he actually tried that instead of copying a recipe, we see him usually try and fail because his food is awful. Despite the name of his business, we never once see chum before the change of direction.
It's nice to see episodes where Squidward deserves the shit he gets unlike later seasons where he gets dunked on for the crime of being Squidward

You know what's hilarious? I have real bad anxiety, and it's taken me until now (27 years old) to learn to drive. And I think about the boating school episode and the big toe EVERY SINGLE TIME i drive, because i really do use my toe most of the time. It works!
