I know this is an old video but it is a good one. Newbie chicken keepers will be watching it.
I'm just gonna address the egg withholding because of the ivermectin.
I will eat the eggs as usual because I take ivermectin daily to keep my cancer from returning. My doctor agrees with me and says ivermectin is wonderful, cheap drug that has many good uses.
My niece suffered from seizures all her life; having several seizures per week. Ivermectin practically stopped her seizures completely and those she had were not as severe. There is research to back using ivermectin for cancer and seizures. Easy to find on TH-cam and internet.
I started out using horse paste then started purchasing human pills from a pharmacy.
As for me, I am not one bit concerned with the amount of ivermectin that may be in eggs. And although I was exposed many times, I never had covid.

Look up on pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov , type in ivermectin and cancer. An enormous list will come up.
Fenbendazole (dog and cat dewormer) and ivermectin are basically cancer treatments.
I agree 💯 %. This ivermectin is the same as the human treatment just in a different form. I would not do egg withdrawal as I have also used ivermectin regularly. I have done research that proves many human ailments are from parasites. So we should be using it. Look it up. You can find images all over google. The warning on these labels are nothing more than fear porn. How can big pharmacy make all of their money if you’re taking some thing that cost so little to prevent illness?

I don’t do an egg withdrawal with this medication. It’s just our family though.
What about fenbendazole?
@@justint1807I use fenbendazole, I do not withdraw egg use with this medication either, it's also not required in the UK to withdraw from eating eggs with fenbendazole.

I’ve taken Ivermectin oral myself. I don’t know how different the pour on is but I had no adverse effects from taking the oral.
You used the injection kind how much did you take the one for cattle and pigs is what I have
We dosed ourselves with ivermectin during the C virus. Didn’t help but did not hurt us😊
I am currently treating my flock with ivermectin and still eating the delicious eggs. My concept is who couldn’t use a little ivermectin in their system.
People started taking ivermectin during covid so yeah 6 drops in the chickens egg’s isn’t gonna scare me enough not to eat the egg. Glad I found this video.
Hi Sarah I have just subscribed to your channel. Thank you for posting this video, the Vet just told me to use Ivermecton. I have a very sick hen and hopefully will recover. She has gone lame in her right leg. I aquired a coop and seven hens five weeks ago. Still have a lot to learn.

Thank you for posting this Sarah. I have just used up one I bought from Amazon that one can use for several animals. I used it for my dog, goat and hens. Could be syringed, put in water or dropped onto food, which I have used up. So in need of a new one. But gosh I'd be terrified of using a syringe on them. Thank you again for this great video.... You really are one of the best youtubers to watch for advice and I love your enthusiasm and your love for your hens. Also the sound quality is excellent now xxx

You squirt it on from a syringe with no needle.
I just put it on my pigs food ivermectin and he also gets a goat wormer to safe guard I give that to him 3 days in a row then stop I give him ivermectin then again 14 days later give again but I haven't used it on my chickens you give it oral to your chickens I don't know if they will all eat it in there food because there so many chickens I think I'm going to put it on them in drops

From what I read, it's about the residue in the yolks having a different effect than the medication. Residue can trigger allergies and resistance in parasites in humans.
A piece of packing tape over the numbers on your syringe will help them last a bit longer.
I use this for my 13 Chicken's and it work's wonders.
Much better then the powder for mites or the spray etc.
With ivemectim with eggs, i still eat them even after i use it, I've had no problems i also give it back to my chicken's also.
Ivemectim is also good for:
- Mites & Lice ( As well as Red mites, northern fowl mites and scaly mites.)
- Worm's.

Liquid in the water? 19 chicken I can put 3 ml in two gallons I was thinking to do that
I’m about to try for mites, I’ve tried the Elector PSP and must have missed a few, it’s good for spraying coop but it’s hard to spray entire chicken and I didn’t want to spray their heads. No fear of ivermectin, I’ve learned a lot about it since 2020!
Half ivermectin half water in a spray bottle two or three sprays in the vent and two or three sprays in then base of the tail. Takes care external paracites for three months.
I don’t choose to do it that way but thanks for posting another option!
A few of my girls have Gape Worms. I've been thinking about treating them with Ivermectin but didn't know how to give it to them.
I have a 100 tablets for the family if someone is GIVEN covid. It got me over the stuff! So I'm very comfortable using it...

This is a late comment,hope you still check them. I treated a little over a week ago. So abt 5 days later, I noticed one bird,1st time being tx, wasn't eating, isolating, but drinking a lot. Her crop was empty,she had no fever, walking fine,no respiratory issues. I brought her out of coop w/me and she had a bm that was mostly water a bit of soft stool, and swirled clouds of urea. Thinking it was a crop issue, I went to massage but found crop to be what I discribed as deflated, nothing. I went ahead with gentle massage, heard clicking,and shortly after she had another bm, less watery, soft,green, white urea swirled throughout.
Kept her crated inside over night, she had another foul watery white stool in the a.m., then began eating and drinking. Kept her crated a second night, eating drinking, normal bms this a.m. Haven't let the others into run yet this a.m., she is currently in run dust bathing and reaclimating. So my question is was this from tx 5 days prior? Eprinex Ivomec, 1 drop, guinea fowl.
Oh no! I’m sorry to hear that. How strange. And no dead worms in the stool? I’m not a medical professional but I’ve never heard of that. It almost sounds like she had a blockage at the same time that she was being dosed. And nothing else unusual in the stool like long grass, etc.? ✌🏼❤️🐓
@@realsimplemama nothing. I took a sample in this a.m. that tested + for coccidia, of all things. I'm only mildly surprised. She's a yr old, but a very sheltered one yr old. Perhaps the tx was taxing on her enough to let protazoa flourish.
I just add a bit of DE (Demetrius Earth *food grade only*) to my feed that I mix myself and my girlies get a bit every day. Its a natural wormer so no need to worry about dosing or anything. (Its also found in alot of ppl food like flour etc, so no withdrawal needed either)
I treat the ground and roosts with it as well..no ants, mites, flies, etc in my coop or run so double win 😁

Just sprinkle it around in the chickens’ area even in their food. We put it in their bedding,in their yard area & it does not cause parasites to become immune. It kills the bug & worm eggs also. We used to put it in the water every spring & during the summer. Ever hear the old saying “this coffee looks like hen water”. The old timers used to say that about weak coffee.
People are claiming that their cancers have gone away with dog wormer!!! Medically documented remissions. Why with hold the eggs, you can treat them & you. Growing up on the farm we never with held the eggs. We don’t give dogs raw eggs it tempts dogs to raid the hens’ nests.
How much do you put on the food? Can I do this with geese and ducks?

Exactly , i am using them based on bottle instruction per lb , pour on it takes only 1 drop/ rabbit and repeated for 4 weeks . Its a bit hard on the skin but effective . 0.01 cc as injection per lb .. its bad when you have a 100 rabbit or chicken or any farm animals in large quantities
Hey thanks for your reply, I diluted for ear mites, .01ml ivermectin to .09ml water, half in each ear. 10 days and 1 more treatment.Now to treat the fur mites. 1 drop per rabbit , ok. How does the skin reaction present ? Irritation? Thank you. I adopted them, and they came with both.
I was told by an avian vet to only use 3 drops of Ivermectin for a flull sized bird. He said it is a threat neurologically, if over dosed and it seems it can be cumulative.

I assume when you are cooking the eggs during the "discard period" that the heat neutralizes the ivermectin. I have jumbo quail. Alot of them. That I pickle in a canner for 90 minutes. I am wondering if the ivermectin would neutralize under that type of pressure in high heat. I am guessing so because you are giving back to your chickens the eggs that contain ivermectin. BTW. Down here in the south, it isn't normal for a kid to grow up without needing to be wormed once or twice. Lol
LOL! I’ve never heard of a kid needing to be wormed but I’ve always had to live in a typical neighborhood so it’s not the same. And it’s a really good question about neutralizing the medication… I’m not sure but I wish we could get someone to test it for us!

I have used ivermectin for my dogs for years. We have had mangy stray dogs complete new hair growth in two weeks. Kills mange mites. Prevention of heart worms and roundworms. But never give a dog with heartworms already unless you know how to dose for that. Dosage is important. Some dogs are sensitive to ivermectin. Can cause seizures if overdosing. Never use on cats. Just my experience. We are starting chickens very soon and we will be using ivermectin. My experience it is a must have.

Funny this comes up. I am deworming my hens for the first time ever. This is my first experience with tapeworm. I have had the pour-on for years-never used. Unfortunately, I found Ivermectin is not for tapeworm, but other type of worms:( So I had to call the vet for what to take for tapeworms.

I wouldn't care about eating eggs from chickens treated with ivermectin, but i would care about eating time eggs if there's any chance try still had worms.
How many drops would I put on the back of my chickens neck and also would it treat scaly leg mites we bought 2 serama Roos from the auction and they have scaly leg mites they are isolated with them being tiny how many drops would you recommend

Hi! I would do ivermectin and also do a dusting/clean out of the coop with DE or poultry dust. I’m not a vet but this has worked for me. Treat the whole flock as well. ✌🏻❤️🐓
I used permetherin spray from the feed store for mites and lice it is safe for them and you can spray their feet/feathers directly every few days until they're gone
I take “Horse paste” ivermectin , eggs from a chicken dosed with ivermectin won’t even phase me, 😁

When you apply the drops what size syringe do you use? 3ml, 5ml or ?
Anything will work but I feel like you have better control with smaller ones. You can always practice with water in your sink first! That way you can see how fast it drops etc. ✌🏼❤️🐓

If so, do you clean after the 1st dose or second?
Hi! I do clean out my coop regularly anyway and I have videos about that. But worms aren’t transmitted the same way as mites or lice for example, they’re transferred mostly through droppings/the ground. And I’d feel safe cleaning after the first dose if you felt it necessary. ✌🏻❤️🐓

Hi! I’ve bought some ivermectin 1% and I’m just wondering where would be best to actually apply it? I was thinking the neck but then the males will grab onto the females neck to balance themselves so I’m not sure! Hope you can help :)
Hi! Yes I do the back of the neck - it’s not perfect but if you move all the feathers to the side so you see exposed skin, and get the medicine on the skin and not all over the feathers, that should be ideal! ✌🏻❤️🐓

Thank you for this information filled video. I ordered Ivermectin and it will be here in a couple of days. I need to order the syringe or eye dropper too. My question is; how do you get drops from the syringe, the ones I have just squirt a stream. Is it a special kind of syringe or should I get an actual dropper?
Hi! I use a dropper like what comes with kids’ medicine. I don’t use a syringe like an actual needle because like you said there is no control. They’re the super cheap chunky plastic ones and pharmacies will usually sell you one for $1 if you need it! ✌🏻❤️🐓

I just stumbled upon this info earlier in the week. Tomorrow I'm going to worm all the girls. I'm going to do 10 drops for my Silver Laced Wyandotte's. I'm going to do 8 drops for the Black Stars, as they are nearly as big as my Wyandotte's.
If I put drops on their feet vs neck skin (pain in the butt and easier to drop on toes even though I don’t think they have scaly leg mites) will it work just as well? Or are the feet “scales” (healthy ones) too thick for it to absorb through? Thank you for all you do btw 🙂
Hmmm. If you’re doing it just as a preventative you could maybe try. But I wouldn’t count on it for sure, soaking through the legs and feet. I always grab the bird off the roost at night, or just lean over and do it while they sleep! Much easier and they’re so sleepy they won’t fight much. ✌🏻❤️🐓

I have read in many places where people put this on monthly like a flea treatment on a dog/cat. I see you only do it when parasites are suspected. Would you suggest not doing it monthly for #1 egg withdrawal but also #2 for the resistance build up the parasites can get upon regular use?
Exactly! I mean, certainly do what you need to do. But I only do it twice yearly (so once every six months preventatively), to keep that resistance down. We’ve only actually had worms once - and by we I mean the chickens 🤪 - and they were eradicated just fine. I think there’s also the conceptual difference between fleas and ticks in our house with our indoor pets, and backyard birds. ✌🏼❤️🐓

Hmmm in my experience, Ivermectin is for internal worms and parasites because it goes into the bloodstream. For mites I’d use poultry dust and/or diatomaceous earth generously on the whole flock as well as nooks and crannies of the coop and nesting boxes.
Oh! Get them some vitamins! I was thinking about this - electrolytes in their water like Rooster Booster, give them wet cat food and Greek yogurt and scrambled eggs and other nutrient dense things. Mites and lice suck nutrients out of your chickens’ bodies and weaken them.
@@realsimplemama I've been doing that. Vitamin B complex with vitamin c, lemon balm in water, i shake iron pills in a water bottle until the dissolved, then pour it into their water. I’m dealing with mites right now, sprayed them with Electro PSP but they still have a few. Wondering what you found to work if Ivermectin didn’t. I’m trying the Ivermectin and spraying coop again with Electro PSP
@mom2many748 honestly ivermectin should work because it goes into the bloodstream. But you do have to dose twice to kill everyone at every stage in the life cycle.
Sarah I have ivermectin I use for my pig m chickens been having diarrhea for awhile I gave them a whole bottle of corid that didn't help now it's hot and what do you worm your chickens with

I will say that if they have diarrhea BUT they otherwise act healthy, the loose stools may just be because they’re drinking a lot of water to stay cool! ✌🏻❤️🐓
Not only that, the amount you are using on a chicken is so minute, why worry about it.
So how much would I put in water if I use it yes you have to do pigs twice to I do bandit once then I do ot again 11 days later and I give a goat wormer an then 3 days later I do it again I give his all n top of his food

Hi! Yep it’s called Ivermax and it’s an ivermectin liquid. And yes I did get it at TSC though it’s technically made for larger animals like cattle.

This one is a pour-on. You can look up the dosage on the injectable as I’m not sure. The pour-on is usually 5-8 drops for a full grown hen, between the shoulder blades.
I am going to get some ivermectin I was also told that pumpkin if a natural parasite remover I am not sure how good at work but they like pumpkin anyway love your video
Pumpkin maaaaaybe has a chemical in it (especially the seeds) that can prevent worms. But it wouldn’t treat your chickens if they have worms, if that makes sense. I give my chickens pumpkins too but don’t hold my breath that it actually does anything 😆 Ivermax however has proven its worth to me!

Ivermectin specifically cannot be given orally to chickens that I know of. It’s a pour-on so a topical that’s absorbed into the skin. As a rule, all meds for poultry fall into one of the three categories but not Ivermectin in particular.
So it’s done with a dropper, on the back of their neck. Most full size adult chickens should get 5-8 drops.

No! I actually don’t worm my chickens “just in case”. Easy time I’ve needed to do it (about once every 1.5 years) it’s because I suspect they actually have them. So no worries!

How many pounds is your smaller chicken? My chicken is full grown. Extremely, light in weight at the moment. I'm using it for mites. She has lost most of her feathers and the new ones are not growing well. Diatomaceous works on the outside. They are in her.
Ugh I’m sorry. My smaller more slender birds were 3-5 pounds each. I’d use 6-7 drops of ivermectin pour-on for each of them, and repeat the dose a week later. (Remember I’m not a vet but this has always worked for me!) ✌🏻❤️🐓

Hi! It should buy I’m not 100% sure and I’m not a vet. I’d also do a Google search to see what the dosage would be since it’s by weight.
Will using ivermectin on the skin help get rid of scaly leg mites?

Hi - there is another medication you need to use but I don’t remember the name because I’ve never used it - you can Google it or check out the backyard chicken forum to ask. You can also use diatomaceous earth on your chickens and in the coop because you’ll need to deep clean everything.
Does this work on lice on chickens too?
Technically no I don’t think so. This is for internal parasites. BUT lice can be easier to treat with a dust/powder. I like Poultry dust because there isn’t much risk to you or your flock. Some people prefer diatomaceous earth too! And you’ll need to clean out and replace all bedding/material in the coop (you can see my Deep Clean video) and then treat the birds again in a week or two so you get all the lice life cycles.
How do u know if your chickens have worms
A few different ways. Quickest is to see worms in their poop. If you had already treated them recently, and the worm in the droppings is dead, then it’s the med working. But if you haven’t medicated, that’s a sign that they’re on overload.
The other way is honestly process of elimination: your chicken is losing weight, seems pale and listless, and act like they don’t feel good. But when you do your medical check - check out my video - you do not find anything wrong with them externally like lice or mites. Chances are then it’s an internal parasite.

Hey I’m so sorry. I’m not a medical professional and so I couldn’t answer that with confidence. If I had to guess I would say no, if it is meant to be injected then the body uses it differently as opposed to it being orally. You could call a vet or try to do some more research. ✌🏼❤️🐓
I have used ivermectin injectable orally many times, I got the dosage information from the veterinarian. I have used it for chickens, and for other animals. Again, I would stress getting the correct dose from an actual vet, usually farm vets are more than happy to accommodate.

I've done some research and most of the backyard farmers give them 2 drops at back of the neck. I hope it will work.
Does ivermectin kill gape worms?
That I don’t know since they work in a different way than a worm in the intestinal tract. I want to say that the people I know who’ve dealt with gapeworm , did have to get a separate medication just for that. But I’m not a medical professional. Ivermectin does work by going into the bloodstream and I just don’t know enough to tell you if that would be sufficient. ✌🏼❤️🐓
I have treated gapeworm with Ivermectin (sheep dip .08%) successfully. I had a hen at the gasping stage, gave 3 drops on neck & 2 drops in mouth. Hen was doing well by next morning & is still with me today.
Supposed to keep it out of the sun.
It’s kept in dark storage in my house when not in use. 👍🏼

Hi! It can but it depends as really it goes into the chicken’s bloodstream. I’m not a medical professional but I’d also look into diatomaceous earth, poultry dust, etc. to help with mites and lice (and deep cleaning the coop too). ✌🏼❤️🐓
