  • This color educational film is about firemen and firetrucks from EB Films. It seems to be aimed at grade school children based on the narration and was filmed in Evanston, IL. It is circa the early 1950s.
No opening credits. A firemen clean equipment and the truck. A snorkel is raised from a firetruck. A hand maneuvers a toggle. The ladder goes up and reaches high due to its extension. Firemen carry a hand ladder as well. The ladders are placed and firemen climb them onto the top of a building. Once the fireman is on top he throws a rope down to the others. The others tie the rope to the hose and its pulled onto the roof. Other firemen use hose straps and climb the ladder with the hose. A fireman practices saving a man and carries him down a ladder with his body hoisted over his shoulders (fireman's carry). The man is placed down onto the ground and oxygen is given to the man via a mask. Fireman hold a net and practice catching people jumping onto it (:06-2:09). A house is on fire. A policeman shows up and calls the firemen over his radio. The firemen slide down the pole in the firehouse to the ground floor and start getting into the trucks. Evanston in on one of the fire trucks. The chiefs car is first followed by firetrucks. Down a suburban street the trucks go as the sirens roar. The ladder truck rounds a corner. And then another corner. The chiefs car is there first and he exits the car as the ladder truck arrives (2:10-4:10). The ladder truck and the other truck stop. Firemen start pulling the hoses and ladders. Men place ladders against the house. Other ladders and hoses are pulled out. The hose is connected to a fire hydrant. The engineer manages the water hoses/pump. Hoses swell with water. The firemen on the ladder. People stare at the fire. A lever is used. The ladder is lowered to the roof very carefully. A fireman climbs onto the roof. More water pressure is applied (4:11-6:11). Firemen use the hose on the roof, water flows. Another fireman hacks into the roof to get at the flames. Fireman with smoke masks rush into the house. A hose is sprayed into the house. A kitten is saved and given to a little girl. Down goes the ladder back onto the truck. Hoses are rolled up. Firemen pack up and start to get ready to leave. The girl plays with her cat as the firemen leave. No sirens as the trucks drive like normal cars. The firetrucks pull into the firehouse (6:12-8:01). End credit (8:02-8:08).

Wow, I take my hat off to this guys. Didn't have near the knowledge, equipment, or gear we have today and still managed to get the job done. They went in without hoods protecting their skin from the heat, cutting holes on the roof and spraying water into windows without an scba and masks. I'm impressed. Even still, we still haven't managed to reduce cancer numbers with everything we have.

Was those firemen called Huw,Pew, Barney-Magrue, Cuthbert,Dibble and Grub?
For those that don’t know those were the names of the firemen in the children’s animated tv show Campbell-Wick Green from the 60s and 70s in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧.

I believe this is "The Fireman" (1954). The opening title and first few minutes are missing.

“ that’s why firefighters may go through red lights on their way to a fire” 😂Too funny
And do 50mph while doing it, just ask those poor souls who were killed by the fire engine in Kansas City recently.

What? No helmets on the firefighters below the roof? Head injury waiting to happen.

No one thought to knock on the door to see if anyone was home? And why was little Judy smoking cigarettes in the upstairs closet?

Because that’s how you learned to smoke back then. We’ve progressed since then, now parents are smoking weed with their kids and are best friends
