That's how the meta is made and I think that's what people forget. Someone does something weird and new and people start to do it too and bam! New meta.
@@Yaeza31 I know jack about AOE 2 pro play tbh, but it is always funny when strategies that counter the meta everyone always follows are considered 'bad'. Everyone at the top of any game is usually not that different skill wise, but they usually have unique playstyles they've refined and because they themselves invented it and understand their tactics, they know what counters it and how to react better than anyone else will.
@@Spaced92 Yeah, I agree with you there. For instance, "daut castles" are things that daut gets made fun of for (not maliciously, of course, I'm pretty sure a good bit of the AoE 2 pro scene are friends or at least friendly with each other) but if you really looked at them, they're just last ditch castles, an all or nothing kind of strategy.
I like the Persian Douche because it's the meta buster. It forces chaos and suddenly everyone's plan is out the window. Makes for very interesting games.

Only at 7:43 in the video now and i'm nowhere near good enough to actually attempt what i'm about to suggest but my own response to this if i could avoid panicking would be to mill the berries, get a few on gold and put down a barracks and get out a bunch of militia then relocate the TC before going feudal. The militia effectively kill any attempt at a second douche or at vil rushing is the thinking. And ofc once feudal comes in and they can become MaA they provide means to pressure.

Dropping a TC seems like the Evans Gambit in chess. You shouldn't lose to it on paper, but no matter what you do, if played, right you may not be able to beat it.

I'm an old school player from the Zone days. This reminded me of watching recordings of Teutonic TC Rushes before they nerfed the +2 Teuton TC garrison range. Such a douche move but hilarious to watch.
This is such a cool game! Jupe seems to really know about the important stuff like the backup fish boom, next hidden cup forest nothing and that random gold in the center of the map

Pardon my noobishness, but could you not beat the Persian Douche by simply not repairing your TC and stockpiling the wood and stone?
The Persian player still has to idle villagers to damage your TC, and as long as you build your second one out of range, he still needs 300 wood and 100 stone to build a 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc. TC if he wants to chase you around the map.
As long as you passively move to another wood line and stone pile, you should be able to keep your eco lead, make Castle Age first, and then beat the Persian TC with siege.
Agree. Repairing a TC costs a TON of wood. And since you can't fight back against a Persian TC you are just delaying the inevitable. You are better off just abandoning it and rebuilding it somewhere else.
Also, I think those towers F1Re made were useless. 5 Archers/Scouts would have been able to cause much more damage to Jupe's economy.
It's complicated. If you don't repair you don't get feudal age, and if you stop repairing after feudal age and try to build a new one then Jupe will villager rush you. and possibly TC drop you again. I'd watch the previous videos with him because there shows his other methods.
@@icewind107 He would have needed a lot of wood for barracks + range/stable + archers/farms/fishing ships. He did not have that much wood floating since he had to keep his first TC up. Besides Jupe's main eco is either close to his tc or in the water. Scouts or archers won't do much.

0:40 can someone explain what happened here? The unit flag thing is cleary on the already dead sheep, villager is produced and just goes on to ignore is lord's order and slaughters another, innocent sheep that would have been allowed to live for another 2 seconds at least if not for his random act of violence
It's possible that Jupe manually tasked the villager to the live sheep as soon as he popped out of the tc for efficiency

Tc dropping is used in tournament games by some of the best pro players, so it's a viable strategy. It's not just a meme. I don't think it should be up for debate. Just because Viper can easily defend against it, doesn't mean it's a bad strategy, he can easily beat almost everybody no matter what they do. The Tc drop clusters players it's a psychological tactic.

What a savage strategy
The TC push would be more effective if he put 3 vills on stone to add towers around their wood cutters on the other side (or whatever on the other sides).
I've watched at least 30 of TC90Official's videos and I still don't know all of his acronyms and abbreviations. META? KD? Elo? TC? I'm googling now. I'll figure them out. But I have to keep pausing to lookup what he means.
I bought AOE2:DE because of finding your videos. slowly playing through some 1v1 ai games on 2nd difficulty. I am used to RTS in the C&C line from decades past so this is quite the learning curve for me. Any suggestions on where to focus on learning?

This strategy cannot work in RISE OF NATIONS because you cannot built in an enemy's territory. Should your troops or buildings find themselves trapped in enemy land, they will suffer attrition. The closest nation that can do this are the Lakota... Very hard nation to master as they have NO farms or granary ^^"

Most tc's …. around 2400 points. Persian tc…..4800 points. Makes sense to me. Attack the weaker with the more powerful. I don't really see much difference between this and killing a peasant with a knight

Playing a lot of Nomad probably helps. I'd abandon that TC fast and place a new better one elsewhere.
Fire's mistake was to not pick cumens and TC away from Dupe and get speedboom over there while pretend to struggle with Dupe's TC drop to give him satisfaction,get the speedboom rolling on 2nd TC and back attack Dupe really hard with Steppe Lancers and be all over him with those pointy bois giving him advantage and possibly a win

Why didn't F1Re garrison his villagers too shoot back at Jupes towncenter? Wouldn't that do just as much damage back?
Persian town center has double HP, so in straight garrison combat, Jupe would win it guaranteed and with like no hassle at all.

Fire lost this game the moment he tried to repair that TC. Ignore the TC your opponent makes, let him waste villager time shooting your TC down. You can rebuild yours in the same time he had to waste rebuilding his.

Guys but won't Cumans be good for TC dropping too?? Like have 1 TC drop on enemy, go to Feudal and build another one to have 2x firing power and vill production. Additionally if it doesn't kill your opponent, just drop siege workshop and ram down any remaining enemy's buildings :) Didn't work? Well then you still got Kipchaks and Steppe Lancers, don't you?

I doubt they'll nerf them right there, but I have the feeling this might be the case - removing the Feudal TC option. I think the other things they'll nerf will be steppe lancers and the Bulgarian konnitsi. I can tell the konnitsi are OP since even as a Castle Age unit they're too strong, so the non-elite version will be nerfed in a way. I believe it won't be by removing techs, but by either increasing the cost or reducing some of their stats. As for other units, I don't believe kipchaks will be nerfed. But I think keshiks might be buffed and they may make them also generate gold while attacking buildings.
@@spd7693 yea I don't think they will nerf abilities, just stats on new units. That's why I still think TC dropping with Cumans might be interesting strategy choice.
