ok but the idea of turning something super mundane and turning it really high concept is perfectly shown off in remedial chaos theory. something so simple like “who has to get a pizza” splitting timelines and plots that all come together so so so beautifully well in the last two timelines (troy and jeffs, the proposed worst and best timeline respectively) produces some of the funniest scenes and set ups in the entire show. that episode is a true masterpiece that i could quote for ever. “so strong its banned in serbia jeff, let that sink in.”
"Jeff Winger, you son of a bitch!" One of the best moments in the show. Every time I see that part, I smile so much. It was like they hadn't seen each other years, even though it had only been a couple hours.
I started watching community bc i heard it was a show you had to watch along with parks and rec and such. I was about to stop watching after episode 3 but it kept me just enough and so i said id finish the first season and stop. But legitimately the moment jeff woke up to a post-paintball world i fell in love, troys line really nailed it in for me
The beauty of Community is that it really lands after the pilot episode - with Parks & Rec however it took a whole season to find its real voice and having a cast as a family instead of as misfits which i guess is what the office is.
@@jabreo lol yeah I mean parks is probably almost as good as community, I think I hate season 1 for being kind of cringe because parks tried to shame people like the office tv show... But it will never be as accessible as community which has so many great standalone episodes and I can enjoy one like a bottle episode if need be
This is the hardest question to answer. In the last couple seasons it is easier to find episodes that aren't great but finding one that is the best from the whole series is impossible. It's just too good.
My man, I'm oddly happy about toy having sponsors on this channel. Been a big fan of you and this channel with the way things are deconstructed here. Paired with the editing, it's so soothing and interesting.
This was the first episode that I watched. It was shown to me by a high school friend and I was instantly hooked. I have binged the show constantly ever since, and never gotten tired of it. While season 4, 5 and 6 didn't quite capture the same greatness, they are all still worth watching and I would say make for better tv than most shows in general. But this episode (and many other episodes between season 1 and season 3) have an endless amount of rewatchability, and that is why Community in my opinion is the greatest sitcom of all time
I think the Conspiracy theories episode was more hilarious, with Troy & Abed building a huge blanket fort and destroying it as soon as it became mainstream. There is also a Latvian parade in that fort, because they had the right permits!! Hilarious
I love Community when I first started watching it, but Modern Warfare made me change my opinion towards it, turning from “loving it” into “omg is this best sitcom ever made?”
Not enough is said about Season 5+6. They have some of my favourite episodes. They're as good as season 3 imho. I love Elroy, Frankie, Buzz. The lower budget made work even harder to produce such great tv
Agreed! They may not be exactly as good as seasons 2 and 3, but they were a lot closer than most people give credit. Even season 4 is solid by most sitcom standards. And while the new characters couldn't replace the old ones, people need to realize that they aren't meant to replace the old ones. They are their own and they succeed very well on those terms imo
I like community because it knows exactly what it is doing at all times. They don’t ignore when they are feeding into common tropes, but instead embrace it.
3:40 not sure if it was intentional, but I think these might be a very subtle not to Lando in Star Wars, when he first interacts with Han Solo on screen. Which is a great bit of meta humor considering Glover would play Lando years later
This show, like any, has had its share of lows but Community is my favorite show of all time and this episode is part of why. This is what made me fully realize that this show was going to be something special
4:29 Not just brilliant Scarface and Die Hard parodies, you forgot to mention Jeff waking up in his car to find the post apocalyptic school in shambles is a reference to 28 Days Later! There are tons of pop culture references scattered throughout Community, there's even a side by side compilation here on YT for anyone curious to see them!
Super distracting! It's like the audio is cobbled together haphazardly. Paired with the speaker's unique cadence and it's a bit maddening. No offense guys - love your stuff! Something about these edits lately is just strange, is all ♥
I was expecting the episode to be Remedial Chaos Theory at first (the episode where they roll the dice) but this one is a great pick as well. Keep up the great work!
Found you channel this morning and have been binging it all day! You should maybe do another video on south park now that they aren’t on the 6 day turn around
Semi hot take: season 1 is the best season of Community. It felt grounded and wholesome, Pierce's and Chang's characters were sympathetic and not vilified for random reasons, and the wackiness wasn't super over the top yet. The villain thing is huge since it went against a quote in commentary where they said something along the lines of not needing series villains.
I only got 4 seasons into Community but man it was a great ride. It took a while to understand what it was going for, at first it seemed really cheesy and then they started with the "themed" episodes that stood alone and referenced other movies or shows (or themes, like in the case in this episode). Then I understood it and it was perfect.
Was this your favorite episode as well?

I felt that lol - only because season 6 means it has to end...
I've never been so early to a video! Keep posting, I'll keep supporting. You're amazing man!
Thank you!
ok but the idea of turning something super mundane and turning it really high concept is perfectly shown off in remedial chaos theory. something so simple like “who has to get a pizza” splitting timelines and plots that all come together so so so beautifully well in the last two timelines (troy and jeffs, the proposed worst and best timeline respectively) produces some of the funniest scenes and set ups in the entire show. that episode is a true masterpiece that i could quote for ever. “so strong its banned in serbia jeff, let that sink in.”
I adore the paintball and Christmas specials on Community, fav comfort show I've rewatched thousands of times.
Remedial chaos theory is my absolute favorite.
Community aired at the start of my time in college and I really resonated with their desire for priority registration.
@@wombat7961 yes exactly, i couldn't get into parks & recs because it took so long to reach that point
@@jabreo lol yeah I mean parks is probably almost as good as community, I think I hate season 1 for being kind of cringe because parks tried to shame people like the office tv show... But it will never be as accessible as community which has so many great standalone episodes and I can enjoy one like a bottle episode if need be
Community is incredibly underrated.
Hilarious
I was already hooked on the show, but this episode really pushed me to watch the entire series within days. It’s just so beautiful.
I love Community when I first started watching it, but Modern Warfare made me change my opinion towards it, turning from “loving it” into “omg is this best sitcom ever made?”
The office, 30 rock, parks and rec, community all at the same time is crazy that’s a 10/10 line up for sure
I’m so happy Community has made a resurgence these last few years
the last episode of season 2, it was like the season 1 one but better in every way and had perfect moments. I love the season 1 one too
“The feeling of being in a pillow fort”
Well, we know how he feels about Pillowtown vs Blanketsburg
YES NERDSTALGIC AND COMMUNITY MY TWO FAVORITE THINGS
You are too sweet
The grandiose boss battle music in the background really caught me off guard
I like community because it knows exactly what it is doing at all times. They don’t ignore when they are feeding into common tropes, but instead embrace it.
3:40 not sure if it was intentional, but I think these might be a very subtle not to Lando in Star Wars, when he first interacts with Han Solo on screen. Which is a great bit of meta humor considering Glover would play Lando years later
This show, like any, has had its share of lows but Community is my favorite show of all time and this episode is part of why. This is what made me fully realize that this show was going to be something special
The paintball episodes and the ones with everyone being numbered in ranks and Jeff doing a comedy show at the end was perfect
Seriously the greatest TV show ever made.
Love the video! Curious, what's wrong with the audio? The voiceover sounds super distorted and is a little hard to understand.
Super distracting! It's like the audio is cobbled together haphazardly. Paired with the speaker's unique cadence and it's a bit maddening. No offense guys - love your stuff! Something about these edits lately is just strange, is all ♥
Community is probably in the top 5 best comedy series ever made.
This one is great, but the last episode..... That brings tears... As always, your videos are awesome.
I was expecting the episode to be Remedial Chaos Theory at first (the episode where they roll the dice) but this one is a great pick as well. Keep up the great work!
My favorite show ever, modern warfare is truly one of Community's best
I was waiting for a Community video since the day I found this channel, glad to finally have one :)
Yes truly an under appreciated gem
My favorite episode has always been cooperative calligraphy. But seasons one- three are so genius!
When i first saw this in 2011, i just knew it was something special. What a legendary episode.
This and remedial chaos theory are probably the episodes that represent every character the best
