The cutie mark honestly looks like its glowing and swirling off her flank, and your right, adding more brightness/light to the lineart where the mane is really adds the depth to how bright her mane is. Its so effing gorgeous and your interpretation really DOES scream sun goddess. A calm, almost merciful one, but you can just feel the heat and power emanating from her.
i like to think that canonically for this design celestia's shadow is just,,, bald. out of courtesy and reverency people pretend not to notice but its really obvious
