I'm at a point in my life where I just love seeing cars run. Don't care if you spend $20 or $20,000, if ya get'em runnin the way you want enjoy it! Your channel is geared for the workin guy and gal,so whatever it takes to get'em on the road and off of the fence row looks great to me!
Good comment. I'm a perfectionist by nature but at my advanced age am totally getting that point of view👍
Coffee!!!! ☕️
Amen brother!
Yes 20 years ago I loved the perfect cars and the good paint jobs. Now I just like seeing them running, junky or whatever. I use to not get the whole original and "patina" or whatever but the older I get the more I like the stuff in running original condition. I guess it's as I get older and realize how much those cars and the stuff costs to do that, and that those guys worry if a bird poops on it, if it's wet outside, raining dusty a rock bounces off it as he is running down the highway. I don't mind a backyard 20ft paintjob either thank it looks fine and protects the vehicle and gives it a decent look.
I'm with ya boss.
Send em!
You can tell that Derek really cares about his viewers. I mean who else would make a huge mistake like that paint run on purpose just so that he can show us how to fix it? Thanks buddy. It is very much appreciated.
There’s no denying Derek is one of the hardest working people you’ll ever see. Not just of TH-cam content providers, but amongst all men. He goes over and above his normal unsustainable pace, going the extra eleven-seventy miles for his fans. Kudos to a guy.
Thanks for the kind words and noticing the hard work and effort!
@@ViceGripGarageWhat you did at Demo Ranch opened my eyes to your work ethic.
Brother, I've been watching your great videos for years. Keep up the good work.
Do they make those heads for a 360?
I call bs...at 12:32...he confessed!..."I'm Lazy"
Blowing compressor air from an 86 year compressor that never had the filters drained🙃
Feller here that’s never really been a Mopar fan but “I’ll be dipped”……you’ve taken me back a way long time there!! Absolutely nice restomod car back on the road!! Significant improvements throughout!! Great job Derek!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🏁🏁🏁🏁
Thank you!!!
The most comprehensive, easy to follow front wheel rebuilding I've ever seen. Love it! 👍
I feel like I can do brakes now. Can't wait to do mine this weekend.
Step by step detailed instructions how to rebuild front end, AWESOME!!
Now I feel kind of like I could rebuild the front ends now.
I tried that same rebuild method on my disc brakes, it sucked, lost all stopping power.
craigslist rebuild.
Nope...I think the black rims looked way better on that particular car...but I would still love to have it! Been fun watching you put it together!
Yeah, the black looked better and had a better offset up front too.
Yep. I love the old school Cragar’s on some builds. But the black steel wheels looked really tuff and bad ass.
The old style US aluminum slots would have looked good on this car
Those tires & wheels really brought it to life! Old school 💪
Brings back a lot of memories. I'm 70 and two people in my early life had this car. Love the show
The stripes totally changed the look.👍
Agree
The Duster looks absolutely beautiful! The shine, the stripes, the hood, the wheels and tires, the dash and instrument cluster all make for a good combination so far. Looking forward to the next installment and very excited for whoever wins it. Excellent job!
The sounds coming from the engine and exhaust is perfection. Car is turning out awesome!
that rig is screaming for a hood pin kit!!? love the build and the show, thanks for all the entertainment.
I sure hope who ever gets this work of art treats it with care and don't beat it. Give the man who has worked hard on this sweet ride an atta boy. Enjoy the ride. Most impressed with the whole family.
I'm sure whoever gets it will thoroughly enjoy and appreciate it. I'm also sure it'll go on its fair share of 'spirited driving'
That car is already beat. Really rough stuff. I'd drive it like it's hot
@@inmate666 "spirited"
If I win it…. It will be beaten daily
This has taken me back to my late teens! I can remember setting up a spray booth in my parents double garage. I used frame tent poles and polythene with a damp floor to keep the dust down. Before I started I had 4 old oil filled radiators plugged in to get the garage warm. I can still picture my mini and it's island blue paint with a white roof!!
Cool.
Do you have a picture of it too share with us? 🤔🧐✌️
@@BrianMagnafici-mw5xh Unfortunately I don't it was 30 years ago, I did take pics but I'd used an old point and shoot camera. I'm going to my parents house tonight and I'll have a hunt in the attic through the family albums!!!!
I did exactly the same thing, but without the tent. My Mini was Almond Green with an Old English White roof, 1275A+ Metro engine, Cooper disks, Cooper perforated wheels, later genuine Minilites, negative camber and lowered all round with the obligatory RC40 exhaust.
@@jameseastwood4984 I had a similar set up engine wise with a 1275 engine and a set of Cooper S reverse rims until I could afford minilites .I can remember the first MOT , after the rebuild, and the reaction I got. I was sitting outside the MOT centre with the engine running and got the signal to drive in . The guy that was doing the test laughed and said this thing isn't standard and I can smell the fresh respray .He told me that he'd done the exact same thing in 1971, I nervously waited outside wondering if It would pass. After what felt like an eternity he drove it back round to me and said you'll be going home now to fit your spotlights. His parting shot was you've made a tidy job of the wiring for the spotlights ,it's not like a rats nest here's your certificate.
Derek your a great man you do things the way a normal person would do ,your videos are amazing, love the duster.🎉🎉🎉❤
Thank you Derek for your attention to detail, especially on a car you’re not even keeping but giving away, all the perfect touches for some lucky winner, won’t be me, never that lucky. lol. True VGG fans would agree, best content on you tube !
👍 I'm one of the guys that liked the black steel wheels but on the other hand I would upgrade front brakes
I would do the brakes to with the HP up front now
I concur. My first car was a '67 Charger with a slightly heated up 440 Magnum, and the stock drums all 'round. After a few hard applications the slowin-down situation got, uh, "interesting".
That stock 7.25” likely had a 2.73 gear. 8.75” 3.55 was an awesome choice. That gauge cluster is without a doubt the best I’ve seen. I’m hoping you share a build sheet with us as far as the parts you’ve used.
This brings back memories, i used to own a Duster just like this one. Props to you for rehabing all these classic cars and trucks.
This guy breathed a sigh of relief when another guy said you were going to clearcoat the old patina paint. thought from the thumbnail you were actually gonna give it a full repaint, which wouldn't be the VGG vibe:) Agree with the matt black hood. looks badass.
The Duster looks awesome. I’m really digging the look you went for on it. The Craiger wheels and flat black hood with the stripes made the look. I hope whoever wins it appreciates the look you want for, I know I would. Look forward to the next episode.
Looks awesome, I do like the black steel weels look better
Same here. I like the entire "before" look better actually. Just would have put the new grille and interior in if it was mine
Man,,can't believe all the work you do to a vehicle your gonna give away,,you are truly a good person
Derek,I love the way you gave the Duster that old school 70’s look. Can’t wait to see the finished interior as well. It’s going to pop!😎🇺🇸👍
Absolutely incredible what you all can do with vehicles. Such a wholesome channel. Big fan!
Thank you
Love it..but black wheel and tire setup looked better IMO
Yeah, I was about to say the same. Them Cragars are nice, but a little to shiny on that Duster. Matte black steel made it look more mean.
That was instantly my thought too. It's the only thing off on this build, I love this car and the Frankenstein engine
maybe to some, but its a newer look. being old enough to remember the 70's look it was chrome and cragar style wheels
Keystone classics would have been better
Agreed, the new wheels ruined the whole build.
That baby sounds so mean I love it... First car I ever drove was a duster the color is identical. Keep up the good work Derek..
So uplifting a family man can create wholesome content without having to be foul or crude to be the best entertainment out there.
💯
YES, the muffler shop needs a YT channel. To give others pipe routing ideas and share some learning!
Starting to dig the LS Duster. I was so happy to see the choice of wheels. Shame they just don't look quite like the OG Cragar SS but How can you go wrong with a fresh set of Cragars.. Loving the transformation.
You and me both!
That "LS 318" label got me thinking about having fun with all the experts you meet on the street. "Yeah, it's a special Chrysler factory motor, they de-stroked a firedome hemi to beat NASCAR rules." "You've heard of V-8 Vegas? This motor's a Chevy factory prototype built for the Vega concept car. It's really a 305, I just put 318 on there cuz Mopar."
For a quick and dirty clear coat and seal up it looks good. The motor sounds great.
Alright, ya got me. I’m not a mopar guy or a gambler but you convinced me to take a shot at the give away. Plus supporting you and your family is a big plus
Turned out fantastic! The stripes and flat black hood really help set it off. Man oh man those wheels are awesome! Great choice for the wheels! Can’t wait to see what the interior looks like completed.
360° of brilliance. Everything about the rig; the upgrades, the aesthetics, the VGG custom wind filter and valve lids, the promotional incentive, all of it!
Among many you stand heads above sir.
Well done.
I think I need a new forehead awning, and I know just where to get one.
Cheers!
Really dig your episodes. Taught me a lot. I saw a brand new Camaro the other day. Amazing how unique creativity seems to have disappeared in car styling. Every car is starting to look the same.
Right on!
Starting? The saying "Wind Tunnel Clones" dates back to the '80's. Aint saying you're wrong though.
Camaro's have always been pretty much unmistakable to identify. If you want to talk about mid- sized SUV 's then you have a point.
You sure ain’t lying. Acura is the worst. But they’re all guilty, it’s like there’s no creativity anymore. Sad to watch
A lot of the similarity is created by safety and fuel economy legislation.
Those black wheels look good on her also
You have done a great job with the Duster so far Derek, anxious to see the inside when it's finished.
Looks awesome, but black wheels would look even better going with the black stripes and bonnet.
I've had 3 Dusters in my time ! This is one that would be something. I have a Mopar family.
Love the duster Derek you are the master of what you do
Very cool transformation. I’ve always been a GM guy but this duster is slick with those stripes, hood, and wheels. It really makes it look like a different rig! 👍👍
Thanks! 👍
Duster looking good! Some lucky feller or fellette going to score a sweet rig!
It's been a minute since a guy did his own wrench-twisting. I love watching you work and listening to you talk. I feel like it's saved me.
I remember my Dodge Dart Sport, ‘73 model with the unbreakable 5.3/318 v-8. It was copper mini flake exterior with a white vinyl top and beige interior with benches front and back. Dog dish wheel covers on 14” wheels. Slapped in a generic 150 watt cassette player, tore out an 8 track player to get it in, mounted a tachometer on the steering column and drove the crap out of that “cruiser”. Never a problem.
09:40 That sounds great
If I was you Derek it would be hard to let that go after that transformation, the engine and transmission alone!! But you can’t keep ‘em all, you’re new building is full and its not even built, anyone would be proud to own it and I bought more than a few chances so wish me luck🤞thank you and the family and Chad and all the crew for an awesome build 👍see ya next week.
I'm a Mopar guy, and I have one word for this build...
Approved 👍
Thanks VGG , One awesome looking Chrysler . Disabled Army Veteran Alabama , old school mechanic. Be safe and take care .
Man do I love this car. Really love how it's turning out so far. Can't wait to see the interior. I have bought some stuff so fingers crossed it could be mine. If not it will go to a very lucky family. Thank you Derek for doing stuff like this it's really awesome.
Good move on the 8-3/4. I’ve had slant sixes get the better of the AAM 7-1/4. A stock 318 can terminate one in short order, destined for certain failure behind anything even mildly warmed over…
I appreciate why you did this the way you did instead of several thousands for a top-notch paint job. Still, it reminds me of back in the day when folks would paint their car with a paint brush. :)
Your work ethic is quite exceptional. Thanks for sharing and taking us along.
What an amazing job you all did on this Duster vice grip garage you're the best 🇺🇸👍👍
I just bought a 70 duster 340 4speed in moulin rouge paint. It needs to be put back together, it’s gunna be a fun winter project.
Good Morning Derek, it is great to see you again today and I hope you are having a fantastic weekend 😊 !
Happy holidays Derek and your family.. love the years of videos.
To you as well!
You, Dalton, and Kevin always do the best "rebuilding" 😂
Love that you’re in Cookeville. Glad to see a local shop doing great work.
If you ever need space or help in Cookeville hit me up.
Love the way your painting with sparks from the welder just by your feet and over spray!!!!
Good looking car, dusters have always been one of my favourites, particularly the 75 duster hang 10. Keep up the solid work. Thanks for putting out solid videos!
I was hoping the steel wheels would stay, I was wrong. The cragars brought it right out of the seventies. Looks awesome. Nice driver. Might be my favorite VG builds.
In my mind, Duster's usually had slotted rims.
That is true. I remember a lot of both. Can’t go wrong with either in my book.
Oh yeah!...now you're talkin! She's commin around nicely!
The wheel and tires you went with couldn't have been better. Man they look amazing
Best Friday night entertainment ever
I think you should do the taillight sail panel flat back too, it would blend well
Isn't there a Duster logo that goes on that too.
That thing looks more ready to party than Billy Ray Cyrus mullet from the 90's! Love that Mopar styling, great job!
Great video, I think the steel wheels on the duster look better than the craigers.
Best motivation I have had call you Mr do it or keep it coming man I got to get out in the yard and put hands on all my old rust buckets and this was the motivation I needed keep it coming derrick 👍
Hello from St Cloud MN!!! Chevelle ('72) and Duster ('75). Had one of each when I was young. Miss both of them.
So happy you put the 15" rims on it. So much better.
Gotta give you credit where credit is due. You really can do a real guy's budget car turn around!
Happy Holidays to you & you family and staff! You definitely make my Fridays! . . . .
Looks Good.. you’re better off using a 1.3 or 1.4 for clear. In cold weather you wanna heat the clear. Boil a bunch of water then pour it in a bucket. Then set your cans of clear and hardener in there Let ‘em warm up Dutch oven style. (You can set them in front of a heater also). When the components are nice and warm, mix and spray. Trust me. Way less likely to run and it’ll lay down smooth. Set your gun about 29 psi at the cap. Material about 2 1/2 -3 turns out from fully closed and keep the wet spot movin’
Exactly. 1.7 tips are for primer.
yep I 3rd that I use 1.4 for clear 1.3 for base . and i did use 1.8 for high build primer but now use 2.5
P.S. get away from the hvlp guns plenty of budget conventional or lvlp guns out there. Heating the clear not only makes it flash quicker. It makes it thin out. Cut your reducer down to 5% or less.
Really love this Plymouth and your love for bringing her back to life. Thank you!
This Duster reminds me of my 74 Duster that I got off an old man in 77. It only had 1600 miles on it and was Green with a 318. It was as plain Jane as they come, Plastic bench seats, auto trans am radio. I put some fat tires on the back and I loved it, even tho my girlfriend (now my wife of 42 years) hated it. Lot of memories........
Just what I needed something to take up the rest of my evening while I prepare for my next video this weekend. Thanks Derek I hope you and your family had a happy Thanksgiving.
V. G. G. Has become one of the highlights of my Fridays! I hope you never, ever, quit posting. Thank you for all your hard work. I also love watching Jessica and the boys work with you. I love the diversity of your posts. Thank you for being real. Thank you for good advice to all ages and experience levels. Keep up the good work. Don’t forget to rest. You are a great father and family man and you deserve every blessing that comes your way.
I saw a really interesting video on clear coat runs a while back. The fella was trying out a technique he’d been told about by an old hand in the profession early on in his career and remembered it when a new guy at the spray shop was working at got runs in the top coat. He used filler to cover the area and then knocked back the whole area with various grits until he’d taken off all the filler and clear coat and as they’re both on top of the good paint it saved the day with the minimal amount of work. Lad is the GunMan on here if anyone wants to check it out ❤
My favorite build series of any show I’ve ever watched. I was an 80’s teenager and you rebuilt her looking almost exactly like my first ride. Mine was a factory 3 speed and Rallye rims. Oh, disc up front and a set of air shocks courtesy of the previous owner.
The car deserves to get proper bodywork and paint. Anything less is an injustice IMO. 😮
A 73 slant 6 car? That means k cars need full restores too.
I'm with you on that doesn't matter if it was a 6,cyl. A car like this at least should have the rust knocked out and the dents filled. Then color change. Doesn't have to be a full out restoration but enough to make it look decent.@rustyul. Of course that just might be the body man coming out in me.
I guess you forgot that it's free. You can take it to the next level if you win it.
@@scottcrawford3092 would have taken a day max to bondo and primer. Doesn't have to be perfect. Hell hey put an engine , tyranny ,new rear, custom exhaust, new rims, and new interior. What's the extra day and $400 to make it look decent.
Nah, I wouldn't want it too pretty., I'd be afraid to drive it in the real world. It's a hair over the line as it is!
Derek is the man! He can turn a pile of dirt into gold
Well, a fella put on the Cragar rims to catch the style and flavor of the late 70's and BAMM! Nailed it! Takes me back to when we put those on any old piece of junk for instant upgrade. 😅
Gas station attendant forgot the hood pins on my brother's 68 Roadrunner. 95 mph on open road and the hood went over the roof. No other damage but he never painted the replacement hood. Looked good. I repainted my Ranchero and did the hood in 1/2 flat 1/2 semi gloss. No glare off hood!
I’m a Ford guy but you still gotta love 70’s mopar body styling
Looks good. Gonna look even better with the new interior. That dash and instruments look fantastic!
Looking forward to the next video.
The 1970 Gold Duster was my second car. I really loved that car, wish I had figured out how to keep it. What I would give to be up there helping put this one in somebody’s garage. 😍
I’d strip the paint off using media blasters normally but I have to say it looks just amazing. Just beautiful!
Amazing duster…been with you since the beginning… all the best for you and family…keep up what you’re doing. Fan for life!
I discovered that masking plastic rolls when I touched up my Fairmont - it is magic saves so much time and unlike newspaper it don’t flap about as much.
I can't wait to see it finished.
It looks awesome.
Love what you did to this car. This was my first car at 17 years old. Super stoked about contest.
Your drips/runs made me feel better about my own abilities. Thx
Just love how this turned out!! My entries are in!
So glad it kept the basic color ❤ This thing is so unbelievably cool I'm in love. ❤
I'm not a Mopar guy but, dayum I like that look. Good work Dude.❤
I really like it with the wheels you had on it while you fixed the car up
Dude! My favorite car in the world. Back in the day I wanted one so bad,but couldn't afford one. Now retired I still can't. She's a beautiful ride.Thx
The plastic/painter's tape combo stuff is awesome on any project..garage or house!
I loved the 3.55 in many cars. Good down low and still decent cruising at 75mph.
The POV at 2:02 makes it look like the car is enormous and Derek is a wee man.
Next time you spray pull the hose over your right shoulder bring it around your back and grab it with your left hand at your left hip. Keeps the hose out of the way and your hip pulls the hose around instead of constantly having to whip and pull. I love your videos my friend!
Well Derek your store is about to light up as people want there name in the hat for this beauty! You are gifted with taste! That rod looks gr8. Heading to your store right now!
