When I was 14 I pretended to install windows xp on a psp 1000, I just uploaded a bunch on screenshots and took photos of me scrolling through them in full screen.
This like a castaway desert island situation where a solar panel, a psp with no games, and windows software washed ashore and a guy with no software knowledge spends years trying to make it work using coconut shells and sand.
In case you want more pain: There was a Bochs port for PSP that was at least able to boot 95 (although it took minutes... and a lot of them...) But 3.11 actually worked quite well ;) 95 was the newest I was able to boot but others claimed they managed to boot even newer versions, sooooo...
That’s what I remember using on a jailbroken iPod touch back in the day thru the Xsellize repo, already had a pack of “Windoze” versions spanning across 95 & 3.11. I’ve seen someone able to boot a custom BartPE based off WinXP, actually using it on the other hand however…
@@lapielazooliei played game boy on an jailbroken iPod nano it was also painful. But bearable to play when hiding in the bathroom in school. I had to scroll to press a b start and select
I remember installing win 98 on my psp 2000 14 or 15 years ago using a homebrew or an emulator I stumbled upon. I remember it was too slow to load and totally unusable. I grew up using win 98 so I thought i'd give it a try but I ended up removing it.
I did this as well. I believe it was Bochs that I used for it but yes this was definitely possible, albeit very slow. Iirc it would take like 10 minutes or so to even boot it up fully.
That's probably impossible, the PSP is more powerful than the PS1, in fact the PSP comes with an official PS1 emulator. The best option would probably be the PS2.
@@reduxflakesNot only is unable to run XP because of power (single core 33 MHz and 2 MB RAM) but because using a MIPS3000 CPU, the PS1 cannot run some instructions needed at the base of windows itself.

I have windows xp home and windows vista on my 1000 series while still having the original playstation os. Made it work as a project for computer engineering class in highschool back in 2008. Still have it, and it still works. I use it as an internet radio player mostly. I've never had but the one game it came with and never really wanted it for games.
@@projectalpha22_va You know I've honestly thought more and more about that very idea as time goes by. I may do it, I'd like to exchange the screen to a new one as so many people have done, so maybe that'd be the time. I wish I could post a picture here
Great video. It may help to leave the PSP on charge whilst installing and loading windows in the same way as stuff like the Nintendo switch , but it may also do the opposite as it wasn't designed for this application. This is something that I have to look into doing for myself now. Also would you have used a wired USB Keyboard with a Mini USB to female USB A adaptor? There is probably a plugin for that.
you were onto something that would have made this a LOT easier... batch files I was the batch programming king back in the day... I wish I still had all my batch programming books .. There are so many ways to do this and make it an auto setup .
So much work and frustration went into this. Thank you for doing this so the rest of us won't have to. But I think you started off with the wrong version. You should have used Windows Me instead, cuz that version was so flawless.
dude, I kept laughing and smiling during this, it's exacctly something I'd do, despite being giga-bored, and irritated, idk what it is, you just feel obligated to conqure the task at hand
Amazing what devices can run DOSBox nowadays; it'd be a pipe dream to carry those games mobile with you back in the 80's and 90's; Lemmings for me personally as it's a childhood favourite. I use Retroarch on iOS; shocking this was even allowed even without JIT support.
