Think Media I’ll get my a6400 on mon. 29 jun 20. I purchased the 16-50 kit lens and the Sony 18-105 lens. You went too quickly for me re items like AF and touch tracking etc I just didn’t fully comprehend it all. You were explaining things too quickly. I missed things... I like what you showed us in relation to setting up ‘my cam’. Going into ‘my cam’ is great, but that is doing everything at once. I like the idea of 1. taking a photo and showing us that step by step by step. To me that means seeing you telling us to move the dial to Aperture and taking a photo, looking at it ( show us how to do that too) and moving the aperture to a plus or minus 1, depending on the day being bright or dull. That moves us away from using “auto” but more importantly it starts to tell us to say move the dial to Aperture before we do anything else One other trainer suggests that Aperture is a good place to start. . 2 Recording a basic video? Show us again first on the dial where to move the dial to video, then tell us a basic suggestions in the menus ( if any simple ones);what else to do to prepare for recording. After we see those 2 things.. a photo, and a video. The reason I want to bring all this up is this: many trainers assume our knowledge is there when it is not there in relation to the dial in top of cam. If we move the dial to Aperture, take a photo, look at it then make a +1 compensation, take the photo again, does that mean all future photos will use that +1 compensation I made in the Aperture mode for all future photos UNLESS WE MOVE THE +1 COMPENSATION BACK TO WHERE IT WAS, IF WE DONT I THINK THAT +1 COMPENSATION WILL BE APPLIED TO ALL FUTURE PHOTOS IF I TAKE THEM IN APERTURE MODE. (emphasised). I trust you understand how us novices think. Do you understand. If you like, I’m asking you to help by explaining simply what happens to say future photo settings if we move the dial to say A. This may be simple to you, but it is fundamental to me to understand this. The other broad issues are if you set up my cam, I assume you need to be aware that auto focus might not be selected if you are videoing a landscape. I’m just trying to get some principles clear, hence me choosing the 2 main operations we do.. taking a photo and recording a video. I like it when trainers say to me .. “ Terry, there is no such thing as a dumb question”.
I've been wasting sooo much time looking the settings I actually use all the time. This video showing custom menu is the biggest time saver I've seen, thank you so much!
first Sony and the guy at the store was very smug telling me there was no instruction manual but that it's completely intuitive. Now I come from Nikon land where I've read the manual, watched tutorials, graduated from dslr to Full frame over a period of years. I know my Nikon inside out and still more to learn I'm sure. This Sony was NOT at all intuitive but I took it on a trip knowing I'd have time later to learn it. Thank you for this video. you talk to us like we are intelligent but new. SO simple but hard for a sales guy who is not a natural teacher.
I've used Pentax for 20+ years and upgraded to a Sony a6400. One day in and I love it, but since I didn't even know where to find the record button, there's a lot to learn! Great video. It has been my favorite intro to this camera so far. Thank you.
This video is 4 years old, and I just bought one! I don’t have it yet, but I’m excited. I had a Nikon full frame DSLR, with several lens, and it was way too much for me. I really wanted something smaller, lighter, and “simpler.” I have mostly had Nikons, although I had one of the early Sony mirrorless cameras. I never really got comfortable with it, because menu settings were so much different. However, I know this will be fine. I got the kit lens, and that’s really all I need. I thought I’d be fine just using my cellphone camera, but I really miss having an actual camera. Thanks for the helpful setup video.
this is my first ever professional camera and I bought it with one of my very first earnings and after my smartphone this is the 2nd thing I bought with my own money. It feels great and I am really excited to test it out shooting events
my 2nd sony actually...moving from a5100 to a6400 is like moving from a Prius to a Tesla lol..Your Video helped me setup my new a6400 quickly. Thanks a ton!
Sony A6400 was my first camera and my first Sony camera. I like it because it's good for photo and videos which i'm doing now as a beginner of youtuber and photographer. it was a good and affordable camera for me as it does not cost me in a high price compare to A6300
At 5:37 you mixed up focus area and focus mode, and 6:25 you mean flash comp, not focus comp. I'am sorry for being so neatpicky, but this shorts of thing can make some first timer (Like me) really confused, LoL! It take some times for me to realize that you made a mistake, but I get it in the end. Great video btw, I literally follow all your suggestion in this video. Cause it all make sense to me. Thank you
I got alot of value from this! This was super helpful. This is my first Sony first professional camera ever and I was completely mind overwhelmed. But this was helpful. I still need to figure out how the sound is playing through with a mic jack. But I'm sure I can find that info some where. Thank you!
Just got the A6400 - My first Sony but also my first camera! This video was the first I watched and helped me index and navigate around what the camera has to offer! Thanks for the great tips!
This is my first Sony, even more so my first camera that is not pointed and shoot. I cannot express how helpful this video has been to making sense of this new world I recently became a part of. Many Thanks 🤗
This is my first Sony, do not know anything about it other then this very helpful video. Thank you, I am going to take it out of the box tomorrow. I have been a Canon user for 20+ years. Adjusting to this Sony will take time.
This is my first Sony camera. I bought it like 2 years ago and I love it. Now it’s time for me to get into filming with it because I haven’t done it really so far so yeah, wish me luck and I’m looking forward a lot to be able to film some nice stuff about trips I make to pursue sports with my friends! Cheers Fam for the video, instant like & subscribe
3rd A6x00. Been pretty frustrated, now feeling better about stills setup and starting to focus on video. Finding a lot of conflicting priorities for button and Fn assignments between stills and video priorities. Vid was helpful, thanks!
cheers for this video. This is my first Sony and the menu system is like the control panel on a freakin' spaceship?!? This is gonna be one huge learning curve, coming from Nikon. Thanks for getting me started.
Thank so much for this video. I just got a Sony A6400 after much research. I will use it primarily to record videos and photos for my church. So excited to get started. Your channel's videos definitely influenced me in getting this camera out of all the choices available. Thanks so much!
Thank you so much, I had the Sony a5100 and just got the Sony a6400 today. You really helped me out with this video.. I appreciate you. I was able to follow you step by step. New subscriber for sure ❤
You gave me some great ideas. Thanks. I just got a new a6400. It's my second Sony camera. My first Sony was a DSC H5. I still have it around here, somewhere.
I could clearly understand the whole vid, hopefully tomorrow, I will have a chance to shoot nice weeding vid, and use the things I learned at the same time.
I’ve been mulling over for several days what camera to get. I remove the Sony a6x00 cameras from my list a couple of times but I kept keep going back to them. They seems to have the best compliment of features IMHO. So, I just order the a6400 and will soon begin shooting for a homesteading and wood shop channel, Sky Island Ventures. See you soon.
I just got mine yesterday and I followed all the steps from this video. However, my camera will not allow me to turn on touch tracking. It says that option is invalid because of the lens I have, which is the 18-135mm (one of the kit lenses).. how do I fix this?
First Sony. Great camera. With the 22-50 lens it is an awesome point and shoot that is easy to take anywhere. Change to another lens and it is a full featured power house.
Went from a canon t5i to this camera to start my youtube channel and it has been flawless combined with the sigma 16mm! Looking go into full frame soon!
Hi Omar! Question. I have the A6400. When I go to touch operation it says "This operation or setting not available as follows" How do I bypass that? The same happens when I go to "Func. of Touch Operation" and try to click on "Touch Tracking"
This will be my second Sony a6xxx series camera. I've had the ILCE-6000 since it was released in 2014. Love the platform. Mine still produces excellent images. I haven't received my ILCE-6700 yet. It's on backorder. This was a good overview and I appreciate it.
Just got the Sony A6400. New to all of this. Love your video!! Sooooooo helpful!!! I really like how your lighting and background look and the focus is great on you. I'm curious if you remember what settings and lighting you were using? Thanks for a great tutorial!!
This is my first camera and i have a lot to learn! I went from a Nikon D3300 to this lol so I'm very happy. I went ahead and made my settings the way you showed us so i can see how it goes! Thank you!
PERFECT TIMING! I bought this camera based on your recommendation and its being delivered today. Watching now and will watch again later with camera in hand :)
When you or Think Media gets a new camera, do you put any sort of protection on it? Silicone skin, or monitor protector? I just got a Sony A6400, and this video was very helpful! Thanks!

Thanks for this video. My a6400 is on the way. While I have the a5000, I really consider this to be my "first" Sony since it has features that I really want. 4K recording, in particular. Thanks also for the a6400 playlist of videos. I will be watching all of them while my a6400 makes it way home.
I have the a6100 and im trying to make the best out of my camera. Im looking to make vlogs, pranks, challenges, action videos, and more. Could you guys make a video on the best settings for this camera. also lenses, mics, tripods.
