not doing well academically or not having everything she does on her application doesn't mean you're dumb. in fact, the "dumbest" person I met was a straight a student! plus, there are many different kinds of intelligence, not just academics!
As rising senior looking at this, I’m now wishing that I went out and looked at more extra curriculars just to venture out and see what I liked (seeing as my test scores are poor/low). Thanks for the college prep content stuffs! I just found your channel but definitely subbing for more-it oddly stresses but motivates me to keep going and see where I go for college.
People who have this mindset are the people who don't get accepted. They think great stats = Ivy League when it really comes down to compatibility lmao
maybe it was her essays that they didn't enjoy. plus a person is the one who decides if she gets in or not so maybe they weren't having the best day lol
Congratulations!! Vandy grad here :) Nashville and Vanderbilt are the absolute best. And we have a lower acceptance rate than like half the ivies lol. You will LOVE!!!
When this video came out, I wasn't even in high school yet, but I just gotta say I appreciate what you do. I will definitely be checking in to your channel as I go through my high school journey :)
Brings back so many memories, both joyous and heartbreaking. I remember the tears of joy after getting into UCLA and BC and the tears of sadness after getting waitlisted by my dream school UNC. You’ll do amazing wherever you go, those are incredible stats! And if you go with a science major, try not to overload yourself any one semester (I was a biological sciences major and made that mistake!)
Kelly Nguyen beautiful school (I visited summer of my junior year), I love basketball and baseball, I grew up on a farm in NJ (so I kinda fit the Southern stereotype), and it’s impossible to get in from out of state (only girl from my school that got in had a 2370)
gayathri ballingam hi!! thank you!! I touched on basically all the awards/honors I got in the EC part of the vid. I got some extra AP scholar stuff I didn’t really talk about for my AP scores, but I touched on most everything else :).
I hope you're able to answer this! How did you take Pre-Calculus online and where? I want to be in AP Calculus AB next year for my Senior year, however, my school failed to inform me that I needed to have taken Pre-Calculus as a prerequisite. Now, I am stuck with finding where I can take an accredited Pre-Calculus class over the summer. If that information is private, it is okay! Congratulations on your full scholarship though! Your dedication to your academics is amazing!!!
thank you!! I took my precalc class in my school’s online summer class program. It’s been quite a while so I don’t remember the actual program name... it might have been ACCESS?? Sorry I couldn’t be more help. I hope everything ends up working out :).
Wait I’m sorry. You said you were learning multi variable calculus in your junior year????? I just got into Vanderbilt, but now I don’t feel qualified to go to school with you😂
Amazing video! (I also play violin and do hosa & scioly haha) Did you do any summer activities that you talked about on your app//have any advice for those?
procras tinacion hi!! Hahaa I love your username. I did the automated vehicles symposium in the summer. If you’re shooting for camps/internships, I would recommend setting aside time to ask around/google and see what’s available in your area that you enjoy. A lot of them require letters of rec and applications, so it’s good to get a head start on those + ask your teachers for rec letters early. But things like practicing instruments/ having fun with friends/ getting a job/ volunteering are great too. You don’t have to do anything huge as long as you’re being productive and working on things you like :)
By the way, I'm wondering how you took Advanced Calculus (BC portion and Multivariable Calculus). I'm planning to do the same thing too but I don't know how.
I didn't catch what major you were in, but if you have a choice, Electrical Engineering here is fantastic. I'm a PhD student in EE/CE at Vanderbilt and the professors are absolutely incredible. Also high school is harder than college, and college is harder than graduate school. Just letting you know in advance ;)
Hi does anyone think these are impressive ECs? Context: I'm passionate about Russian history and am majoring in Russian language for my undergrad. 1. President/founder of Russian history club at my library (10th-12th) 2. Oral history internship 3. Internship with historical society 4. Learning Russian: 2 years worth of college Russian courses, a free intensive summer program, and self teaching 5. Volunteered and tutored Ukrainian young people in English (10th to 12th) 6. Independent history research: published 2 articles in an academic journal for high schoolers 7. President of Writers Club (10th to 12th) 8. President of Slavic Cultures club (11th to 12th) 9. Volunteered with a Russian history museum (10th to 12th) 10. President of social studies NHS chapter (11th to 12th) If they are lame ECs plz let me know
Does not taking all those AP history classes (macro and micro included) hinder applications? I’ll have taken/ be taking every class (math classes included) you have taken except the AP history classes and AP physics II by the time I submit college apps
I will be taking the PSAT on Monday and I am extremely nervous because, since I'm in eighth grade, this'll be my first time taking something this big.. I know it doesn't necessarily count, but I have my worries haha..
How did I not know that you had this channel and HOW DID I NOT KNOW (or forget) that you played oboe!!!!! #oboegang haha it's awesome to see you're so famous and once again party hard but not too hard at Vanderbilt :D
Okay so I have a 3.8 unweighted gpa, which is super bad and probably not enough to get into college, and I have a 4.15 weighted gpa, keep in mind honors and dual enrollment classes aren't weighted, is this still a high enough gpa to get into Vanderbilt? Keep in mind, each year I've gotten at least one B. For my activites, I wrote five books, wrote children's stories that have been publisehd and put in my local library along with my books. I changed legislation, laucnehd my own campagin, created my own virtual AI Chatbot, wrote two research papers, and aditionally am part of two national boards. However, I don't think I'm smart enough to apply to schools liek Vanderbilt, where the acceptace rate for ED 1 is 25%. Should I still apply or would it be a waste of my time?
Your so smart and hard working. Definitely try before you have regrets. If you get in amazing, if you don’t, that’s okay you worked so hard so you will get into amazing schools
Could someone help me out please? I had a D grade in GCSE Math. I sat for my my O level (GCSE) in grade 10 and A Levels (IAL) in grade 11 and 12. In my O levels I had seven subjects, consisting of 3As, 1B, a C in English Language B (which consists of Creative, Directive Writing and Comprehension) and D in Mathematics. My subjects were Commerce, Business Studies, English, Accounting, Econ, Math and Bengali In A levels, I had Accounting, Business and Law and I got As in all three. I also have a pretty solid ‘businessy’ activities list with good leadership positions, internship and volunteering, all included. How much will my US college decisions be affected by the D grade in maths back in o levels? Will a good SAT score help make up for it? I am applying for Business majors in 4 UCs, and 19 other universities.
I've only done ap musictheory and ap physics onramps, and I didnt take the test for music theory and the ap test for onramps wont contribute anything. Rip
i’m going to take fashion/interior design and french as an elective for 2 semesters but does it matter what electives i take for like if i want to go to college?
Hi Joy. I love that you are so smart and intelligent and inspiring. I am taking Honors Spanish in 9th grade and I know like the basics. Am I going to be ok?
Hi I love your videos! I am an incoming sophomore and I just got my AP scores and got two 4s.Im scared it's gonna impact me negatively during admission for Ivy's or top schools.Did AP scores play a big deal in your admissions and application?
Hi!! Your college decision reaction video came up on my recommended page and that's how I found your channel! I was wondering if you are planing to attend Vanderbilt since you made this video because I was admitted RD and just recently committed to the university for the class of 2024 !!! would love to chat xx
You got great grades, amazing sat scores, and you had so many extracurriculars. If you didn’t get into an Ivy League school there is no way I’m getting in to one. ☹️
its_n there’s a lot of different factors for college admissions. just bc I didn’t get in doesn’t mean you don’t have a chance! plz don’t put urself down + also the college u end up going to isn’t a measure of your worth 🙂. good luck when applying to college!
Josephine Falode awww you should totally start one if you want too!! honestly my biggest advice would be just to start 😂. no matter the quality, just start making videos and if you keep it up, you’ll find your skills naturally going up as you get used to the process :).

A family friend's kid went to Vanderbilt on a full scholarship, a while back, too. Asian students, who coulda but didn't, and go Vanderbilt, are different. If they regret their decision after graduation, at any point, they're not. I have siblings, who insist that where they went to school changed their prospects. Anyone from the outside looking in, can see the 'reasons for a crappy life' probably run a bit deeper. You know? Joy is my Asian pin up girl, right now. Doing a ton of extracurriculars, on top of grades, to manage a full scholarship, anywhere, is a skilled way to apply yourself. Doing a ton of curriculars to get into a snobby school and pay 100K a year for tuition is a good way to lose your humility. Course. You can always get it back. Could take a lot longer than one might think, though.
You're ECs are why you didn't get in to Stanford. You don't have a captivating story nor theme. No core that tells anyone what motivates you or what you're truly passionate about. Everyone applying to Stanford has those academic achievements or greater. I saw no spike. You sorta call yourself out at the end with your advice. Wish you much success and happiness at V!
This video just called me dumb in so many languages :(
Same
Remember that scores don’t determine your intelligence or your competency
okb
not doing well academically or not having everything she does on her application doesn't mean you're dumb. in fact, the "dumbest" person I met was a straight a student! plus, there are many different kinds of intelligence, not just academics!

I love her energy like I really wanna be her friend
Ashley Rogers 🥺🥺 you made my day :)
@6969 subs with no videos pain.
Same bro. Same😔
The fact that you‘re hella smart and do so many extracurriculars... we stan 🤩
"we stan" headass

damn you’re actually a genius 😓

please keep making videos once u get to vandy! it would help a lot of ppl like me looking to apply this fall!! thanks:))
Seung Lee yessir will do 🤠hahaa thanks for watching my vids :)
Bruh we love a multi talented queen
IDK how you were denied from Stanford. From all the videos I've seen of people who were accepted, you are very comparable.
Steffen Brown ahahaa it ok I guess I wasn’t who they were looking for 😕🤷🏻♀️
Her ECs were a little run-of-the-mill; not very unique.
People who have this mindset are the people who don't get accepted. They think great stats = Ivy League when it really comes down to compatibility lmao
maybe it was her essays that they didn't enjoy. plus a person is the one who decides if she gets in or not so maybe they weren't having the best day lol
She’s a high achieving Asian and it’s just hard for Asians to get into the top colleges even with the best stats.
thank you for being so direct! usually i skip through or watch on double speed but i didn’t this time haha
Congratulations!! Vandy grad here :) Nashville and Vanderbilt are the absolute best. And we have a lower acceptance rate than like half the ivies lol. You will LOVE!!!
Congrats on the scholarship that is huge! Our stats are really similar so its funny we both got into Vandy. Would have joined you if I got it too lol.
omg I played oboe too! I’m so shocked someone actually plays the same instrument
Riley Chong oooo that’s cool! oboe is a superior instrument 😋😌
When this video came out, I wasn't even in high school yet, but I just gotta say I appreciate what you do. I will definitely be checking in to your channel as I go through my high school journey :)

The rollercoaster of emotions in the first few seconds of the video
hello joy! congratulations on your full scholarship! 💗💗 could you also talk about your awards/honors in another video? thanks in advance!
gayathri ballingam hi!! thank you!! I touched on basically all the awards/honors I got in the EC part of the vid. I got some extra AP scholar stuff I didn’t really talk about for my AP scores, but I touched on most everything else :).
me only have one AP class accessible to me for sophomore year: :/
My high school won’t let us take AP classes until junior year
You mentioned Knowledge Bowl!! 😍😂😍
Congratulations Ms. VP for being such an inspiration🎉
A rising senior watching this during the summer: uhhh I guess community college is not that bad.
In short to get accepted you have to be really smart, talented and amazing
8:35 speaks nothing but FACTS 😌
Im excited for your your college vlogs !
yesss essay video soon please this one was so good!!❤️
Hopefully see you at Vandy in the fall!! Congrats on the Scholarship!

Hi Joy ,I wanted to ask you if Emory gave you a scholarship that time.please answer
Aw! I love Vandy. I live really close to Nashville and love the campus. I'm about to be a senior in high school and look forward to applying to Vandy
What if you go to a private school and they don’t have AP classes
congrats on Vandy! we have the same SAT, Math II, Chem, and PSAT woah

Hi Joy, can you like show some templates you used for this 5:33 idea? I'm working on a project similar to yours.

I have to say, I love the face of your eyes and face, why are you so pretty omg.

I hear that a lot, that taking 5-6 APs in HS is actually a lot more work than freshmen/sophomore years in college, is that really true?
Ahh congratulations!! So happy to see new students excited to come to Vandy :) let me know if you have any questions!
