Congratulations! I'm from the UK, currently applying for physics PhDs, so it's been a while since I applied for universities but honestly it feels like you have to do a lot more to get into a prestigious university in the US than over here (with the exception of Oxford and Cambridge). We apply to 5 universities via one website called UCAS and our offers are based on only a relatively short online application process which include our predicted grades for our end of year exams. I've heard that in the US classwork counts towards your GPA which I find really strange because over here our grades are only determined by externally examined coursework and exams. Hobbies definitely help to get an offer but it's insane how much students do in America compared to over here. School clubs and organisations are a thing here but they're nowhere near as big as they are in the US. We also only do 3-4 A-Level subjects as opposed to the ridiculous amount of different classes you guys take. We also only study one subject at university. For example, for the English equivalent of US high school I only took Chemistry, Maths, Further Maths and Physics. It's interesting to note the differences between the systems. A good video idea might be on how you managed to do so many classes and activities and still perform well in all of them.
I needed to see this comment. My child is American but we live in the UK. He wants to be able to attend university back in America but it seems an almost impossible task since the English system DOES NOT have space for all this stuff!!! I mean, GCSEs and A Levels take up soooooo much time already!!!

Depends on how important the extracurriculars are. If you have ECs you couldn’t fit in the activities section that are very important to you and very meaningful, put them in the additional info section. If not, don’t add them.
i started the common app the day it opened (august 1) but started drafting my activities list and common app essay in june. i started my princeton application in mid december (around dec 19) because it was due jan 1, but procrastinated my other RD schools (wrote some essays the day of ngl)

Hi. I enjoyed your videos. Congratulations on all your acceptances. Looking forward to your choice reveal. You took a lot of AP. Did your HS have those AP classes in-house? Or was there an online option? Thanks.
Wow. Is this a public hs? My D goes to a smaller public hs and they can only afford 3 AP classes in-house. Again congratulations on all your success. You deserve it you worked hard.
U r awesome . Congratulations !!! I m from india . I m a junior in high school . I really didn't have access to much extra curricular activities and my school didn't give us any proof or certificate for participating in any extracurricular activity . I got 98% in icse 10th boards . How am I supposed to make my college application look effective and be able to justify my talents ? Please reply :)
nope! your ECs should just showcase your passion and dedication. you should show that you committed yourself to causes/involvements/orgs that matter to you. ECs definitely don't have to align with your major. i know mine really didn't lol
which is the best medical college over there(US, UK)please tell. And which college did u chose, and will SAT be only sufficient to get into big colleges ????? or TOEFL or more exams will be needed?
Ok now i feel comfortable hopefully i get into usc it's my dream school for a while and is it a problem that i apply in my junior year? I also got good stats like a 4.0 gpa and a 1600 sat and a 36 act and i also took 8 ap classes with score 5 each, so can i still get in when i apply in my junior year or does it even matter weather it is junior or senior year bcs my stats are good.
I'm a freshman and I'm not really taking the hardest classes at my school but I have my schedule planned out for the next 4 years and they are some of the hardest classes my school offers. Since this year I'm not doing the best classes, do you think that’ll ruin my chances of getting into MIT or other top schools?
You certainly have a shot at great schools even if you’re not taking the most rigorous possible courses. Just be sure that you are challenging yourself in the areas/subjects where it counts (the areas related to your intended major)
Same cause my school has a lot of AP’s so if I don’t take most of them I am afraid I won’t get into UPenn or other top colleges… I am a freshman rn taking 4 honors classes and AP U.S History. I wanna take 2 or 3 APs my sophomore year and 4 or 3 APs Junior year and 3 or 4 APs Senior but idk
If my school had an IB program i didn’t join, but instead went with AP, does that show that I don’t take the hardest path or what? I am going to drop the program because they don’t have a CS class and that is what I wanted to major in.
sis, take my cordial greetings. I have a question. You had got chance getting into both MIT and Princeton. Why don’t you admit MIT??? i know you are busy person.I will be grateful to yoy if you reply me in your busy schedule.
can anyone help me.... i am from uae and i want to register in harvard and i dont know what to do or what exams to do or even where sholud i register !!!! :((((((
this is just suicide for the average student. you don’t need this many AP classes to be successful. enjoy high school and these crucial years, you’ll regret it otherwise. (coming from someone who’s in university currently).
You said you were an embarrassment to your family... Where did your family members go to school/what do they do now? Does your family make below 80k a year, or above 250k a year? Were you a legacy admission for any of your schools?
It's not a big deal if your school doesn't have AP classes. Just make sure that you are taking the most rigorous course load that your school offers (especially in classes that relate to your intended major).
@@ZoeSimon Thank you for letting me know! My main question is that does your "spike" or outstanding point have to be in what you major in? As your extras did not seem to have to do w your major?

Not at all! Like I said in the video colleges look at the opportunities you’ve had in the context of your school so if your school has no APs, they don’t expect you to take APs
@@ZoeSimon Thank you so much for answering my question.

Hey I really wanted to start a non-profit I have done some research but I was wondering if you could make a video on how you did it!!
i feel so stupid lol
Hi. I enjoyed your videos. Congratulations on all your acceptances. Looking forward to your choice reveal. You took a lot of AP. Did your HS have those AP classes in-house? Or was there an online option? Thanks.
Elizabeth Gardner almost all were offered by my school (in-house). I just took one independent study AP (comp gov).
Wow. Is this a public hs? My D goes to a smaller public hs and they can only afford 3 AP classes in-house. Again congratulations on all your success. You deserve it you worked hard.
Woahhhh!!!! My sister is going to MIT!!!! Where are you going?
this called me stupid in 10 different languages
U r awesome . Congratulations !!! I m from india . I m a junior in high school . I really didn't have access to much extra curricular activities and my school didn't give us any proof or certificate for participating in any extracurricular activity . I got 98% in icse 10th boards . How am I supposed to make my college application look effective and be able to justify my talents ?
Please reply :)
Congratulations!! I was just wondering, do your extracurricular activities have to align with what you want to study in college?
nope! your ECs should just showcase your passion and dedication. you should show that you committed yourself to causes/involvements/orgs that matter to you. ECs definitely don't have to align with your major. i know mine really didn't lol
which is the best medical college over there(US, UK)please tell. And which college did u chose, and will SAT be only sufficient to get into big colleges ????? or TOEFL or more exams will be needed?
Where are you going in the fall? Sorry if u said in the video I may have missed it
video will be out tomorrow morning at 12:30 ET so subscribe and turn on notifications to stay tuned :)
I love you video❤️❤️ can you do a tips for applying to college and essay💖
1 out of 250.... that is the reason

i might be making a scholarships video soon so stay tuned for that ;)
What do I do is my school doesn't have a lot of extracurricular. They only have sports.

I wanna know the same thing. Although I’m taking ap world as a freshman
You certainly have a shot at great schools even if you’re not taking the most rigorous possible courses. Just be sure that you are challenging yourself in the areas/subjects where it counts (the areas related to your intended major)
@@ZoeSimon Good advice, thank you!
That’s totally fine! Just show colleges that you pursued a rigorous course load, especially one that aligns with your interests
Zoe Simon thank you!
sis, take my cordial greetings. I have a question. You had got chance getting into both MIT and Princeton. Why don’t you admit MIT??? i know you are busy person.I will be grateful to yoy if you reply me in your busy schedule.
I got rejected form MIT 😭😭
can anyone help me.... i am from uae and i want to register in harvard and i dont know what to do or what exams to do or even where sholud i register !!!! :((((((
When she said she was an embarrassment to her family...
Just a joke don’t cancel me lol
this is just suicide for the average student. you don’t need this many AP classes to be successful. enjoy high school and these crucial years, you’ll regret it otherwise. (coming from someone who’s in university currently).
You said you were an embarrassment to your family... Where did your family members go to school/what do they do now? Does your family make below 80k a year, or above 250k a year? Were you a legacy admission for any of your schools?
i was just kidding lol. also, i was not a legacy at any of the schools i applied to.
How did you only get a 4.48 w gpa at my school you would have gotten like a 4.8w with that many Ap classes
My school caps gap’s at 4.5
I don’t have that many aps. I have mainly honor classes. Idk if that’s good? I’m not aiming for top top tier schools though.
honors classes are great! just make sure that you are pursuing a rigorous courseload and doing things/classes that you really like.
Was honors English in 10 grade difficult?
Zoe Simon: you don't need high stats
me: oh, cool
she:
proceeds to show her ultra-high stats
girl how the hell did you sleep!!????
prioritizing my time very effectively lol
your focus is awesome,
I would have killed this dog, haha
I am an international student and in my school it doesn't have AP classes or more. What do i have to do?please help me.
It's not a big deal if your school doesn't have AP classes. Just make sure that you are taking the most rigorous course load that your school offers (especially in classes that relate to your intended major).
Would you say Physics is a competitive major at Princeton?
Your school offers more than 3 AP classes 😐
Nice!!! what are you majoring in?
Vivian Ye electrical engineering!
@@ZoeSimon Thank you for letting me know! My main question is that does your "spike" or outstanding point have to be in what you major in? As your extras did not seem to have to do w your major?
Did u use bullseye for your university preparation and application
Have you ever got a B
My sophomore year screwed me over, man was I stupid that year
What website did u use to take classes online?
Catherine Ching Idaho digital learning academy
How did you come about your Democratic political internships and fellowships?
Sadia Obaidul I was really involved in political activism locally and so I reached out to our local Democratic Party organization and they asked me to participate in a state senate campaign.
Zoe Simon that’s super cool! What type of local outreach did you do to propel you to more significant positions?
@@sadiaobaidul7740 i just cold emailed people, did a lot of interviews, and i guess it worked out :)
Zoe Simon thank you for the advice! :)
