    I must say your video is the best I've seen so far. The problem i find with most videos is , it seems people like to hear themselves talk. You were very concise for the most part, that being said i did fast forward through the bolt removal.

    Thanks brother! Saved me around $200 not using a electric winch and hours of setup time.

    Nice video and instruction. I like the use of the cam buckle straps as opposed to the ratchet straps. If you ever have the time to do a follow-up, it would be great to see how to lower the top back down onto the jeep. Thanks for posting!

    I worry about the windy days doing that, but inside a garage, that's a great idea.

    I just bought my first JEEP (Wrangler Unlimited 2020 "Willy's Wheeler Edition")! I am in love and find myself wanting to buy all sorts of things to be able to utilize/maximize features of the Willy's package. The hoist system seems an obvious choice for me, as I live alone and have limited help getting the hardtop off by myself. I always prefer DIY projects, both for the challenge and affordability of accomplishing something great for very little cost! I will be trying this method first before buying a manual or power lift. I have very little knowledge of all that Jeeps can do, but I am looking forward to learning thanks to your vlogs!

    Great idea! I’ve been wanting to find something inexpensive to hoist my rooftop tent up onto my garage ceiling so I can just drive under it and hoist it on and off of my bed rack. I think I’ll try your idea! 😁🇺🇸👊🏼 Thanks brother!

    Since removing and reinstalling your top have you had any issues with the rear sliding window starting to leak?

    Thanks! I did this and it worked, but I am a little worried about some deflection occurring where the strap hooks are located. They are slightly bending the interior area where they are connected at the front of the hard top. Also, I used some additional rubber in between the hooks and the hard top. I'm thinking about adding 2 more straps in the middle for a little more stability.

    • @c130aviator
      @c130aviator  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine seems to not deflect at all. I have my mount points in the ceiling closer so it doest pull out on the hardtop. Check your eyelet placement and move them closer in towards the top.

    Congrats the best modification I've seen so far. Any way you can tell the measurements between the 4 hooks up in the ceiling?

    • @c130aviator
      @c130aviator  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I measured the bottom of the hard top and used the 4 corners as a measuring point.

    Great video and I look forward to installing it in my garage. Any tips on how to place the hooks in the proper location? Would it make sense to have them slightly wider than the top? Like others, I'd also appreciate another video of you using it to put the top back on. Thanks for sharing!

    Thank you for this! My hard top is currently sitting on the garage floor. I’m like your wife and not so good at trying to lift the top off my Jeep. I was wondering if you could share your extra safety features you mentioned after the top is up and off the Jeep.

    • @c130aviator
      @c130aviator  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Its to tie the straps together under the top so if it slips off the bottom hooks, it rests on the tied straps, instead.

    Is there a limit to how long you can hang the top like this? I was wondering if hanging it like this for a long time would warp or mess up the top at all. Thanks.

    • @c130aviator
      @c130aviator  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would only hang it like this short term.

    • @joesimonetti
      @joesimonetti 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They recommend not having it hung all day and night as it can cause the top to warp. You can still back into it and drop it on the jeep overnight to alleviate the stress, then lift it back up if you don't need it.

  • @Juangq
    @Juangq 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    How long can you keep the hard top hanging from those hooks in the garge? Will it worp the top?

    • @c130aviator
      @c130aviator  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question Juan, the top can warp under its own load. For long term use it should be on supports, taking the full weight of the top. For my situation its temporary. I also tie my straps around the underside of the top and connect the straps to keep the bow to a minimum.

    FYI, those aluminum “plant” hooks ARE your weak point! I would suggest beefier eye screws.

    • @c130aviator
      @c130aviator  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Aluminum won't rust in concrete and Guam Salt. They are rated at 98lbs each or 400lbs total. The top is about 60lbs.

      cast pieces can twist then crack under load. more margin for error could be helpful like picking load weight for tires where the jeep could be mostly on a single tire :)
      a lowering budget would be helpful to. we see a lot of the vids lifting but not the lowering which is harder especially solo.
      cool vid either way.
