Oprah didn’t pressure him enough. The interview was on his terms, even though at the beginning she said no holds barred. He was too comfortable in that interview, she should have made him squirm.

I mean not really... Look up the definition of cheat. it is to "act dishonestly or unfairly in order to gain an advantage, especially in a game or examination.". When the other athletes were also taking performance-enhancing drugs, he was actually compensating for a disadvantage by stepping up to their level. While we all know the rules, in the real world the only rule is what you can get away with.
With that said and him being on the same level as other athletes, he still had more mental drive than the rest. The same applies to bodybuilding and many other sports. In my opinion, he is still above them if for anything by telling the truth and being honest about how the game is truly played.

The amazing thing is that Oprah doesn't appear to understand how much she allowed Armstrong to get away with not saying. He only weakly admitted taking drugs, but did not go into any incriminating detail. Nor did he implicate anyone else. The interview was shameful broadcast journalism, for failing to ask the most important questions that needed to be asked. What about the involvement of other higher up people that allowed him to get away with taking drugs (EPO, etc)? Who else knew (UCI, etc)

Just cause most people do it doesn't make it right. Many men beat their spouse. So therefore it's ok if you do? Breaking the rules is breaking the rules. All that break should be banned.

Dude everyone has been saying it. It is a fact that most people in armstrong's era have doped. It is not an assumption, it is factual. Why do you think people say it's impossible to complete unless you dope in that era? Doping is a culture in cycling as stated many times from armstrong, hamilton and other cyclists

  • @jlyon3132

Did he do what he did (in doping) to to maintain his status for those he was helping or did he do it to support his ego? If not for himself; then the road to hell is truely paved with good intentions. Some of this world's greatest successes spring from the greatest failures and how he handles this from here on will define who he truely is! I believe he has a huge oppertunity here to make an even greater difference! To become a true hero. Humble yourself Lance, Be very humble and learn from this!

They all missed the most important reason. He says at one point that he's coming forward but he knows it's 'too late'. What that may have meant is that for some lawsuits the statute of limitations had expired. Quite clever if true.

We had known it all along (he had to be getting help by doping) as he was way too unreal in his strength and that is what made you look twice! We were fooling only ourselves. He stiil had to work very hard and it is to bad it was for a lie. They grill him and they should grill the others too! He still has people that want to see him do the right thing! I still have faith you can make a difference Lance!

it's really not about that "if someone else jumps off the cliff, you also have to". No. In case of cycling and other sports that requires great stamina, because a race last 4-5 hours a day and you want to compete ( because the other 300 rider might also use some performance enhancing), and I think we all know that that mighty Eddy Merckx, ( who we like to celebrate) also used dope,
'cause from a scientific view, one can not be able to be a sprinter and a climber, and we don't call him a cheater

  • @deemariedubois4916

dachshundgeorgia Did you notice that Tour officials didn't give Lance's 7 first place wins to the second or third place winners? That is because unlike Lance they FAILED their drug tests. It is estimated by the RIDERS during those years that 80% of them were doping. Lance didn't take anything away from anyone in those races. Also everyone involved made money off Lance Armstrong. The makers of the bikes he rode became a BILLION DOLLAR company. Nike made their usual fortune. The US Postal Service had their best years while sponsoring the Postie boys.
Did Lance cheat...yes. Did Lance lie...yes. So did the majority of riders during that time period; they cheated and lied about it plus are still are doing so now. Look at the current situation with Britain's Chris Froome. Nothing has changed. But Tour officials were aware all along about the doping even accepting a payoff from Lance to conveniently lose a positive EPO test in 2000. They wanted to open and tap into the huge American market and they did pulling all those big American bucks into France via Lance Armstrong.
Lance busted his ass for those wins. You or I could fill up our bodies with the same PEDs that he did and never win the Tour. With almost all of the Peloton doping, why did ONLY Lance win 7 Tours in a row? It wasn't just doping that made Lance Armstrong THE BEST; his incredible lung capacity, his diet, his training, his heart, and his desire were 94% of those wins. Doping only 6%. Plus all those doping only got 2 years suspension but Lance got a life time ban. France had their American market bucks but took pleasure in taking away those wins from Lance wanting to bring the titles back to Europeans feeling it was THEIR RACE, not America's. They love our money but don't love us.
People need to grow up and look at the FACTS. I still believe Lance Armstrong was the best racer ever. Some of our best athletes are NOT great human beings. Whether Lance was a good person or not has nothing to do with his amazing athleticism and ability to ride. If we are to only let saints be athletes, our sports are going to be pretty damn boring as biking became after kicking out their most incredible rider.
Let's not forget that the cancer charity that Lance Armstrong built from the ground up, LIVESTRONG, has raised over 500 MILLION DOLLARS and has helped over 2.5 MILLION people. The American Cancer Society only spends 59.2% of the donations they receive on its programs and services for cancer victims giving them only 1 star out of a possible 4 rating for actually using donations for cancer sufferers. Whereas LIVESTRONG uses 84.91% of donations for those with cancer and their families receiving a 3 out of 4 star possible rating. If you are going to give to a cancer charity that uses your money as you meant it to be spent clearly giving to LIVESTRONG is the better choice.
None of us go through this life without making mistakes. Condemning one man for the entire systematic doping in bike racing is ludicrous IMO.

      @BEEBEE159 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@Dee Marie "Lance didn't take anything away from anyone in those races." You are a total idiot. You just admitted that 80 percent of the cyclists in the TDF were dopers. Well, that leaves 20 percent that were robbed of a possible victory. Again, you are a total idiot, with no morals, most likely a narcissist just like Armstrong.

No, you're not fair when you accuse every sport. In many sports technique is much more decisive than physical strength or endurance, therefore doping is relatively futile. Most ball sports, for example. How many time have you heard of a soccer/football, basketball or tennis player doping? It's very rare.

you can't ride 3500 miles in 21 days, in that kind of pace, sport is the modern day circus!
Professionals do dope, in every sport!
If you want only Armstrong to suffer, that's just hypocrisy!
Nonetheless he is a warrior, a man who doesn't give up, one of the greatest rider of all time and a great sportsman!

Based on the presumption that he admits to using performance enhancing drugs (of any sort, for any amount of time) he still was able to do mentally and physically push himself to levels that 99.9% of us could do on the same drugs AND 100% of the other drug takers of his era (and possibly any era before or after his). I am very interested to see what unfolds over the coming months/years in relation to this matter.

but professional leagues/sports, as I said earlier are like modern day gladiator fights/circus games, the are rigged, fixed, pre-decided, whether it's by the players who use the dope, or the officials who make the bet, or by their commisioner who gains billions by forcing star players to sign with a bigger market team. it is for entertainment!

I don't think growth hormones are doping, probably not, considering everybody know his story. In basketball they're strong but anyone can be as strong as them, it's all about exercising the muscles, nothing abnormal. Finally, in tennis, 3 hour matches only happen in Grand Slam. Anyway, in tennis matches most of the time is not spent in action. Tennis is really not much tiresome. I know cause I play it. 1 hour playing soccer = 2 hours playing tennis.

  • @lishkathelittlegypsy

Also bear in mind, he pushed his entire team to "meet the standard" HIS standards of doping "excellence" so if you know anything about cycling you would know its a TEAM sport. Lance did not win on his own, if he hadn't had the team he did, he would not have won f-all. And see how he threw his team mates under the bus? Yeah, what a great guy! A bully, a cheat, a liar, and a hero to so many! Pffff.

The whole thing is bogus becacse of the monopoly that organization represents allows them to arbitrarily judge with absolute prejudice! I still think he is a hero to the nation and he was in way too deep as there is imense pressure to stay in the game. They over amplify the issue in his case way more than the others causing as much or more damage than he did! Heroes have faults too.I think he should have to account for the cruel things he said about the lady as it was more harmful than doping!

It is personal, but I have no respect for anyone throwing others in the way of a freight train just because they think they deserve a good story and view others as commodities. Sure the fact it was done and he at the time gave hope to people it sounded great, but I to be honest don't know what to believe here.
