You never master an instrument, you just get good on it, when Victor wooten says he isnt good on certain things about bass, is not being humble, is just another example of when you notice the more you learn, the more you notice you dont know, i can play this, but i havent mastered bass by far haha.

He really pushed the limit of what he could play with this one, and his more recent performances of it, as well as covers like Charles Berthoud's are played substantially more cleanly. We're all human, and mastering... anything, really, is impossible.
His right hand economy of motion is so good it doesn't even look real. How he gets so much volume and clarity out of such small thumb motion is beyond me
the bass is a 20k bass monarch if i am not wrong or the high end warwick, he uses these two brands which uses unique wood and custom pickups. His skills are on another level, i have his instructional video which show case how he actually did it. Pure insane hard work with thump down and up like a pick and hammer on towards the higher fret and tapping. Love this guy.

If you aren't relaxed it's a good way to get injuries. it's just repetition. Start slow and build up. Stuck with it abd after q few months you'll get it

And Tosin has given props to Victor for the technique... the difference is that not many people apply it to a guitar context than just bass. People need to embrace using techniques from other similar instruments... that's how you can innovate and freshen up a well tread genre.
Guitar in general is but there's more techniques you can do on bass like what vic is doing, double thumping is actually fucking insane but if you're playing normally bass is easier in general.

I mean, I would be shocked if he needed to look at frets. Any guitarist, bassist, pianist etc who plays at a high level shouldn't need to. Actually, a lot of teachers recommended practicing without looking on frets so you don't depend on them

Even when you learn to double thumb compleatly, you need to leard to use it like he does, which is a huge challenge in itself

Not sure, but I think that part contains only hammer-ons with slaps, and plucks. Before that, there are a lot double thumb technique tho.
Double thumb is the technique before that. This one just uses hammer-ons. But hopefully you've made it after 2 years! :)
