    Pablo Picasso has long been considered one of the most creative minds in history. How do you feel about the impact he's made in the world of art?

      National Geographic art is completely subjective and offers no practical benefit so why is Picasso is a genius? to those who say they derive pleasure from looking at his paintings I say I would rather sit by a lake and watch the swans glide around .

      I think he is rightfully described as a genius. His disavowal of convention and constant reinterpretations is not something that is often seen. Typically artists become specialists in a particular style but not so with Picasso.

    To be honest I really like how divided people are about his works - some people think it's low quality scribbling, some people have their own interpretations of what they're looking at and some people find deep meaning in them. Either way it makes everyone react, and think... which in my opinion is what art is all about. (edited for typos)

    He drew like a young child, and I think that is the greatest, purest form of art and creativity. It is to not be bounded by reality, to express, to draw, and have fun. Because if you aren't having fun then why draw? You can draw for ''what it is" as many times you like, or you can "what if it was".

      If you research a bit, Picasso could paint realism and symbolism at the level of Michelangelo,
      But Picasso grew up in a time where realism was the norm, and the photograph technology was invented, that could replicate the "real world" much more accurate than any artist.
      Most art moments develope as a rebel against the standard norms when the previous generation establishes one art style as the superior beauty or meaning of expression.
      Many artists at the time went against the norm of "realism" as the norm, and used more abstract illustrations to comment against the previous generations standard. In stead of replicating real life, art could challenge the human mind by express how the mind works and sees, not only what the eyes can see and observe.
      In a lot of art and illustration, its not just the art itself that is a factor, but also the human mind. The "genius" behind these artists is that they're able to play with our minds and give us expressions, feelings and nuances that a "realistic" photograph or painting doesn't. Which is a very particular different skill.
      A lot of Picasso's art plays with the human brain's ability to "see things that are not there". Our brain construct a face, bodies, shapes and give meaning to them, it tricks us to think something is there when it isn't. Just think about the smily face icon :)
      Picasso experiemnets with that concept through the basic shapes, and creates paintings that still awakes emotions, assossiations, movements etc without needing to be realistic at all, he plays with our minds with his art.

    He was inspired by African Art ;. After he and Matisse got into an argument over harmony of paintings. Picasso went to Tracodero museum and copied the African mask. Then say "this is art, i have all rights to it through the lineage of my Moorish blood". He is no genius...he is a academic thief. That is what Picasso was. He gave African art no credit. But the African mask bears witness to Picasso's greatness. That was how he did the "brothel of avingnon". And changed the art world for ever. He did it with African art.

  • @existentialchaos8
    @existentialchaos8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think that a bit part of what opinion you have about Picasso's art comes from where you think art gets its value. Some people think that art is mostly, or only, about the aesthetic value of it, basically how pleasing it is to the senses (like how good it looks, etc.), or how much talent it takes (how easy a piece of art is to replicate). Obviously Picasso's art isn't about that, so these people probably won't see it as very artistic. Others think art is more about the meanings, emotions, or ideas it's trying to convey, that art isn't only about its aesthetic but also about the concepts and ideas it holds. These people are more likely to have a good opinion about Picasso's art.
    I also think that part of what gives art value depends on where it's used. If you're trying to give a room a vibe, or make a place look better, then aesthetic will place a higher value, for example.
    Though, I think art like Picasso's are like thought experiments; they're made to provoke thought, to make us question the meaning of art itself.

    That's a VERY loose term of 'genius' and calling these childlike scribbles "a radical style". I really dislike art critics, they are leeches who couldn't be successful themselves, so instead they try to exercise perverse power over the aesthetic world and tell us we're "wrong" for liking art purely because we think it looks good.
