I just wanted to say thank you for these videos! Your tips and advice helped me complete my first ever OCR, which happened to be the Beast in Bright on the weekend. The only obstacles I failed was the Spear throw, Rope Climb (just need to learn technique) and the Olympus. I was in the Open, and did my 30x burpees regardless of everyone else passing me without doing them 😆 Pretty sure you passed by me down the hill at one stage! 😆 Thanks again!
Thanks, I'll try it next time. The interesting part is that you can't exercise it at home or in gym as you don't have big round stones like that, so you'll only see on the race if it's working or it's falling down on the backside. 😁
I think the best way to train for this method (short of pouring your own concrete balls) is to use progressively heavier dead balls at the gym. I’m not sure they go up 100 lb, but this would be just to practice the technique.
this one is hard; i am only 5 feet tall 110 lbs and lift weights 3-4x a week but this year at dallas att stadium sprint I found it really hard to carry; it was 70 lbs! fortunately nice ladies next to me helped me out a good deal! thank goodness i didn't hurt my back!
I injured my back(mid muscles) doing this in Asheville this year (2024). Took a month to heal. Messed it up again (lower back) at work and just barely "recovered" going into the Beast in November. Pls be careful with this challenge!
Matt Prinvale honestly haven’t seen anyone throw it behind them yet. Most of the time the stone starts to spin or the lifter isn’t comfortable with their grip and then the lifter bails and drops it forward.
Power cleaning the stone is much faster and easier as long as you practice the technique. Step 2 of this technique tends to end with the stone spinning on the lift from knees to shoulder and coming close to smashing toes.
I realise training squats and deadlifts are good for the first part if the lift. How would train for the second part ie lifting the ball onto the shoulders?
Thanks to the video I was able to do the atlas carry at my first Spartan race & help others too!

You make it look so easy! 😂

I'm 5'1 and 93-95 lbs. I plan to join next year, and gotta admit, I'm sorta scared of this obstscle.

Instructions not clear, accidentally sold out Sparta to Xerxes and his army
I feel like if I tried this I would throw the ball behind me. Is that something that happens a lot with this technique?
