  • Brentford v Doncaster 2012/13
    On the last game of the League 1 season, Doncaster Rovers were second, needing a point for promotion, while Brentford required nothing less than victory to seal their's.
    With seconds remaining and with the score 0-0, Donny were ready to celebrate. But in the 94th minute referee Michael Oliver pointed to the spot after Dean Furman had fouled Toumani Diagouraga.
    What followed was nothing less than remarkable.
    About The Football League:
    Celebrating 125 years since it was formed in 1888 by its twelve founder members, The Football League is the world's original league football competition and is the template for leagues the world over. With 72 member clubs, it is also the largest single body of professional clubs in European football and is responsible for administering and regulating the Sky Bet Football League, Capital One Cup and Johnstone's Paint Trophy, as well as reserve and youth football.

    I was in the Philippines on holiday when my accumulator needed Doncaster to win the league for me to collect £5,000 I had no idea wot was happening - I was watching flash scores with my wife’s dad in Manila and thought it was gonna end 0-0 - I didn’t realise the penalty miss but got one of the biggest buzzes of my life when it went 0-1 - I was laughing and laughing ..it paid for my whole trip - never ever will that happen again - a memory of a lifetime .

    When Bill Leslie said it almost mirrors the final day when Deeney scored, THIS is what he meant. If Trotta scores the penalty, Brentford are promoted. The subsequent miss and break not only led to Doncaster getting promoted, but Coppinger's goal won Doncaster the league over Bournemouth.

    We had a similar thing happen at Brentford in 2013. We got a penalty in the closing minutes of the game. Trotta took the ball from Kevin O'Connor, who was our designated penalty taker. We needed 3 points to go up automatically. Trotta smashes against the bar and Doncaster go up the other end and score.😞 Trotta was on loan from Fulham.🤔

      It was the final day of the season Doncaster were 2nd and in the automatic promotion places. while Brentford were 3rd in the play offs. A draw for Doncaster would have meant they would be promoted. Whilst a win for Brentford would have seen them promoted.

    • @HTCGaming1000
      @HTCGaming1000 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Freddy Gardner Final day of the season, Brentford need a win to go up, a draw or win for Doncaster and Doncaster go up. Last minute of the game and this happens. Brentford lost in the play off final but went up next year and made the playoffs in their first year whereas Doncaster went straight back down.

    • @KebabMusicLtd
      @KebabMusicLtd 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Brentford are at home to Doncaster Rovers on what is the final day of the 2012-13 League One (Third tier of English football) season. The top of the table after 45 games reads, (1) AFC Bournemouth Played 45 games, 82pts. (2) Doncaster Rovers Played 45 games, 81pts, and (3) Brentford Played 45 games, 79pts. Three points are awarded for a win and one point for a draw. So, If Brentford score the penalty they will have 82points and leap-frog Doncaster Rovers and claim the second automatic promotion place. Doncaster Rovers would then have to negotiate their way through a play-off tournament against the teams that finish the season 4th (Yeovil Town), 5th (Sheffield United) and 6th (Swindon Town) in that league.
      The Play-offs are a very nervous affair, where the 3rd team plays away and then at home to the 6th team, and the 4th team plays away and at home to the 5th team. The over-all winners of those two-legged semi-finals would then proceed to a 'winner-takes-all' Final to be played at Wembley where the winner will gain promotion to the next highest tear (in this case, the Championship which is the second tier of English Football below the Premier League.)
      As Brentford failed to score the penalty (in what is the last minute of normal playing time) then Doncaster Rovers will claim the second promotion place behind Bournemouth as they will have 82points...but as Doncaster managed to pass the ball out of defence and then mount an attack from which they score, Doncaster Rovers will win the game and the title as League One Champions finishing with 84pts.
      AFC Bournemouth will draw their game at Tranmere Rovers 0-0 and so finish the season on 83points with a better goal difference than both Doncaster and Brentford... but that doesn't matter now.
      Brentford will therefore finish 3rd in League One and they will have to play against Swindon Town in the play-offs which will result in both games being a draw (1-1 and 3-3) so necessitating a penalty shoot out which Brentford will win 5-4.
      Yeovil Town will play Sheffield United in the other two-legged semi-final and they will lose the game at Sheffield 0-1 before winning 2-0 at home. That will take them through to play Brentford in the League One Play-off Final 2012-13 and they will win 2-1 so taking them up to the second tier of English football for the first and last time in their illustrious career. In 2019 they will be relegated out of the Football League and return to the National Conference.
      Doncaster Rovers are nicknamed Donny or Rovers. AFC Bournemouth are nicknamed The Cherries, Brentford are nicknamed The Bees, Yeovil Town are nicknamed The Glovers, Sheffield United are nicknamed the Blades and Swindon Town are nicknamed The Robins which only goes to prove that if you want to handle bees, it is wise to wear some gloves!!!
