Lots of helpful bits, thank you. Also, the scribbles are lovely. And I did like that you pointed out at the end that the blended colors are useful. My art teacher used to say "Mud IS a color - use it!"
This is really helpful, thanks for uploading it. One issue I have is trying to paint in a "painterly" style without any outlines in the beginning, just big masses of paint and color. The hard part though is to paint like that and still get the likeness in a portrait, to still make it look like the person. Maybe you could share some tips about how to paint in a bold painterly style and still get the likeness of a portrait?
Zimou Tan thank you very much I have been having the bad understanding about the Colour relationship from the shadow to light, I am not sure if is the shadow transparency or can allow the white in it? Is the middle tone all grey? How to get the contrast from plane to plane? How to make the shadow richer ?🙏
thanks for the info Zimou. When you used thinner at 5:50 were you actually using linseed oil from the can you showed? how do you do quick drying washes or canvas toning if you don't use any thinner/terp/gamsol?
Yes, I used refined linseed oil. You can also do a mixture of 50/50 of linseed oil and Gamsol. Linseed oil is the quickest drying medium, and I like to paint the surface with it is wet, easier to mix color and blend them and sculpt them the way I want on the canvas surface.

Muddy color can be great, if you know how to use it and where to use it, it can help support the main subject to be even stronger.
Very very helpful thank you

Sure, I will consider that and give some insight, since that's exactly how I paint.
