Robert E. Howard always insisted the the Ghost of Conan stood behind him late at night telling all the tales that Howard typed out to the point that he couldn't keep up with the stream of words. Imagine Robert E. Howard nodding to Conan as he typed while the music of Riddle of Steel plays softly in the backround. Magic!
"Crom, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you will remember if we were good men or bad, why we fought, or why we died. No, all that matters is that two stood against many, that's what's important. Valor pleases you, Crom, so grant me one request, grant me revenge! And if you do not listen, then to hell with you!"
“Know, oh prince, that between the years when the oceans drank Atlantis and the gleaming cities, and the years of the rise of the Sons of Aryas, there was an Age undreamed of, when shining kingdoms lay spread across the world like blue mantles beneath the stars.” ― Robert E. Howard, The Complete Chronicles of Conan Greetings from Brazil!!!
People who understand something extraordinary knows...Basil was and is the one of the greatest film composers. Also my mentor. Legend. When I first heard this I was about 4-5 years old and I felt chicken goofs all over my body. 34 years ago
There is no need for Oscar when you are actually the forger of Anvil Of Crom. Immortality is granded to you. You live in the hearts of men. Like Basilis does.
for me this song is very clear made upon the sands of shem, in the streets of arenjun, in the towers of shadizar and at the gates of turan, under a storm of knives and screams of agony of those fallen in battle, so many years wandering in hyborian age!
for me this is one of the greatest score ever made because only by listening the score you got the hole movie, is one of those movies where the music becames one character
I love rock/metal! BUT I would rather see this live (have not), but would rather see this live than any other band in this world! That would have to be absolutely astounding to see and hear live! Basil was a genius!!! The Conan soundtracks were some of the best music to ever be composed...........period!!
La mejor banda de sonido de todos los tiempos. ¡Gracias, Basil Poledouris! Se me eriza el alma cada vez que escucho tu obra. Gracias por compartir el video. Saludos desde Argentina
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant! I love this soundtrack dearly, and seeing this was fantastic! What a treat! Thank you so much for sharing this gem! Basil, you will live on in the hearts you touched and continue to touch with your music!
Excellent!! Basil Poledouris is one of my favourite composers and i undoubtedly believe that he was and will be one of the greatest Greek composers!! His film music score for "Conan the barbarian" is an opus and in my humble opinion could be compared with dramatic classical orchestral works (Orff, Holst, Sibelius...etc). Everything is marvellous in this soundtrack: composition, orchestration, the scenes of the movie come naturally to my mind due to his music expressiveness!! R.I.P
Yes, I’m glad you also saw that similarity to the elements of Holst and Sibelius, I also agree with that observation on Orff with the evident vocal cues that evoke Carmina Burana.
He truly belongs to the best film composers beside John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman and Michael Kamen. A real genius, rest in peace and thanks for everything!
In my opinion, he's been always a step ahead... :) Talented gentlemen like Williams, Zimmer and so on can make flawless and catchy music, but not raw like that. Not that wild, original and perfect in it's imperfection here and there. This masterpiece soundtrack presents another dimension.
i appreciate the fact this is his only live performance. from Conan the Barbarian, to Lonsome Dove, to The Hunt for Red October, to (the original) Red Dawn, he has been my favorite movie composer.
The college band I was in performed this one year and It still gives me goosebumps. I played the Timpani. I wish i could do it again... Especially the gong roll crescendo. You know the part I'm talking about... lol
WOW, I've been listening to this incredible soundtrack to an incredible movie for my whole life. To see this recorded in all its various subtle nuances and parts is magnificent! You can really appreciate it, amazing!
It was only now that Conan wept, as his faithful bard Basil had passed. The four winds carried his spirit to Crom, to sit at his side and count the days before Conan would join them.
Played this for a Masterworks Concert in college. Played the timpani and talk about a rush... Especially when the gong comes in and the choir is belting out the lyrics...
Basil sits with Crom, strong on his mountain. He answered the riddle of steel.
J White Well said. Very witty.
indeed!
Crom sits beside Basil, strong on his mountain. Basil WROTE the Riddle of Steel.
J White I shed a tear at your comment :_) answer it he did, indeed. Basil forever!!! Conan forever!!!
He's with Crom and together they shall ride eternal, shiny and chrome.
The word Epic was born with this great music! R.i.P Basil Poledouris.
your music will live forever!
He wasn't a Christian btw
@@matimus100 i never said he was a Christian?
I think he may have taken inspiration from Orff...
RIP James Earl Jones
I don't understand how someone does for dislike this song. I hear this music since my childhood. Basil is the best ;)
Guess some people just didn't have childhood
I know this music because of Zelda trailers ...
This is a great music !
this is not a song
@@emanuel_soundtrack Interesting statement.
This song and Zelda is my childhood

Another cool thing…HP Lovecraft and Robert were penpals…there were times where Howard would have some of love crafts work
It was a sad day in my house when this man passed. One of the last true film composers.
best soundtrack yet written
listen to the Alexander Nevskiy suite by S Prokofiev - Russian genius. It was he who had inspired Basil!!!
How can I thank you for this beautiful music. I don't want to exaggerate but this is magnificent for me, every track of this movie is a masterpiece.
"Crom, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you will remember if we were good men or bad, why we fought, or why we died. O que falar dessa composição… fabulosa 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Truly epic, I find it difficult to believe a mere mortal was able to compose such beautiful, powerful music.
“Know, oh prince, that between the years when the oceans drank Atlantis and the gleaming cities, and the years of the rise of the Sons of Aryas, there was an Age undreamed of, when shining kingdoms lay spread across the world like blue mantles beneath the stars.”

Greetings from Brazil!!!
2:55 I love the periodic transitioning between riddle of steel and riders of doom.
Robert sent me. Great music. 👍
Crom is pleased.
Asmodeus
This is GOOD!
But, what is best in life?
He better be pleased....or "To hell with him!!"
This piece is so beautiful and powerful
A true artist. An unrecognized legend... Surely such classics will be referred to in the future...

I cant stop my tears.... Thank you Mr. BASIL POLEDOURIS. CROM!!!!!!!!!
No words can describe this .... majestic piece of music !

Wow!! I got goosebumps when the entire orchestra came in towards the end. Basil was a legend! May he rest in the halls of Crom!
You should never apologize, what you bring us is something unique. Thank You!

Posiblemente una de los mejores temas musicales en la historia del cine. Obra maestra
Obra musical de incalculable valor. Sin duda la mas grande obra musical de todos los tiempos entregada a la industria del cine.
We will never have the luxury of such beautiful sound again.. thanks to those who save this video for our future generations...
It is just awesome. The whole story of Conan is in this theme.

True metalheads around the world have huge respect for this masterpiece and the Basil Conan Poledouris!!! I know that for sure!!!
A Master of Music. He agreed to come from Los Angeles being aware of his illness . In fact he passed away a few months later.

Nos ferrei reges, servi Fati.
Vale caelum, vale terra, vale nivis, morimur!

Nada antes y nada despues pude superar a esta Gran OBRA MAESTRA.
Basil Poledouris and Hans Zimmer. Two the greatest composers of the modern era.
Ouch, mentioning Zimmer there. No way. He's popular, but he's like candy, simple yet likeable and effective but not something you'd eat all the time.
Wojcieh Kilar my friend, don't forget this one too ...

A master piece of emotion
I want to see a live version of this so bad I can taste it!!!! Such an underrated piece.
His music transcended all the movies it was used in, it did that consistently throughout his career. The best.
There are no words to describe the wonder created by Sir Polidouris in this masterpiece.
That's just beyond words....A true legend rip

Basil, Rest in Peace.
He is Conan, the Cinmerian. He won't cry, so... I cry for him.
This music has a life of its own. It doesn't need the movie. But knowing the movie makes it so much better.
RIP Basil Your music lives on forever...
Indeed it lasts in infinity.
this is a masterpiece
Alucinante. Una verdadera lástima que apenas unos meses después este enorme compositor nos dejarara. Maldito cáncer
The people that saw this performance live have no idea how incredibly lucky they are. Basil Poledouris was an absolute God among film composers.
WOW, I've been listening to this incredible soundtrack to an incredible movie for my whole life. To see this recorded in all its various subtle nuances and parts is magnificent! You can really appreciate it, amazing!
This is a concert a deaf man could appreciate. The pure power of this music is enough to send shivers down your spine.
Thanks for the goosebumps! This is so epic and must have be a truly wonderful experience to have been there!
