    .... the most powerful epic piece ever written for any movie. Nothing comes close. To call it a masterpiece, in the whole sense of the word, still isn't enough to describe the music that Poledouris wrote for this movie. Amazing, immortal.

      @patrickpennington9647 10 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I completely agree! Very few musical pieces come close to the raw feeling this invokes. I can only thing of one... When Luke Skywalker is looking out over the dunes and watching the twin suns of Tattooine setting off in the distance.

      @Lemonidas75 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Patrick Pennington Oh yes, absolutely. That is also a masterpiece, one of those that send chills down your spine when you hear them, written by one of the most genius ever composers, John Williams. ...I can think of a lot of Williams music that does that actually. Still, this piece here, and the intro to Conan, the Anvil of Crom, remain my two most favorite epic pieces of all time.

    • @patrickpennington9647
      @patrickpennington9647 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The trumpets as they sound in this piece are a magnificently masterful touch to the over all feeling.
      My three favorite soundtracks are:
      1) Conan (Poledouris)
      2) Star Wars (Williams)
      3) Band of Brother (Kamen)
      Of course I have to toss the soundtrack from HEAVY METAL in there too, but it is more a compilation of rock, punk and metal. =o)

      Patrick Pennington The trumpets, yeah.. and that stop of the chorus at around 4:20 for the war drums .... makes your blood boil ! haha ... just amazing

    I heard this music for the first time as a BGM in the Mod of the game called 'Rome: Total War'.
    When I first heard it, I imagined a scene where humorous savages were singing while enjoying the banquet. Recently, after watching the original Conan the Barbarian film, I was able to realize the terrifying image of the evil cult enjoying human flesh.
    On the other hand, I could imagine the cheerful image of the main characters destroying the banquet. Thank you for the music.

    It's definitely different. I like the bigger, crisper sound, and acknowledge that this may actually be closer to what Poledouris himself wanted the music to sound like (he had expressed his dissatisfaction with the original recording). That said, for those of us who grew up loving the original OST it may be somewhat difficult to listen and enjoy this version.

    This song makes me remember a part of the Samson and Dalilah ballet play. I have had this chorus stuck in my head and couldn't remember where it was from until a friend posted this soundtrack in her timeline and it felt like finding a long lost piece of me. This is one of the musical pieces that has struck into my heart the desire to become a musician and enjoy big choral arrangements.

    Fire and Wind of the sky, from the gods of the sky but Crom is your God, Crom lives in the Earth.
    Once giants lived int he earth Conan, and in the darkness of chaos they fooled Crom, and the took from him the enigma of steel.
    Crom was angered and he was shook. And Fire and Wind struck down these giants and threw their bodies in to the water.
    But in their rage, they forgot the secret of steel and left it on the battlefield. And we who found it, was just men. Not Gods, not Giants, just men.
    But the secret of steel has always carried with it a mystery, a riddle.
    You must learn it's mystery, you must learn it's secret, for no one, no one on this earth can you trust, not man not woman, not beast... This you can trust.

    In a Conan the Barbarian comic book story there was a young woman who wrested away a sword from a soldier and started to scamper away with it. Then, she tripped and lost her grip on the sword which landed point of the blade UP and she fell directly onto it - fatally IMPALING herself. Trust no one - but also trust NO THING. The physical world is super-dangerous - from dangerous traffic to dangerous hazards of all kinds.

    For some reason the original sounds better because it was imperfect. Somehow the polish of this new version just lacks the raw energy and punch of the original. Still fine music but it needs more violence, more animal energy.
    These two tracks however come closest to the original in power.

      Welcome to the world of musical interpretation. The means (quality of the orchestra, balancing of the groups - strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion - recording choices - microphone placing - then decisions regarding post-production manipulation with the sound) are complex but conductor's insight is the center, the focal point, the soul of any orchestral recording. It is heard even when you are listening to the 1930's banged up by time mono recording of a great conductor leading a solid orchestra. His decisions regarding tempi, i.e. his structuring of the temporal dimension based on composer's structure is, along with the aforenentioned means, what separates multitudes of recordings of the same piece of music. What is the main determining tool? Your ears, your musical inclination and comparation for as much as one can compare. Disability of any musical kind - physical and/or mental, loss of interest/depression, availability of recordings/music and in the end death are some of the hindrances which prevent our musical comparations. Welcome to the world of musical interpretation!
