Just came across this video now and sad I have not found it sooner. Rick I miss working for you old friend. Rick there are soo many awesome talented people in make-up now days but for me you still continue to be my true inspiration.
Thanks Everyone. Glad you are getting something out of this practice session of mine. I hope you all have checked out the MAC RICK BAKER how to videos for my Halloween collection over on the MAC Cosmetics face book page. I 'm not sure how much longer they will be up. Also it is really worth looking at all of the entries for the contest. Some really nice make ups there, a lot of them. Im doing some make ups tomorrow Halloween, I will try and video them. Thanks happy halloween, Rick
Rick, you have inspired me so much throughout the years (I am not an FX artist, but a comic illustrator and indie filmmaker), and I am always surprised/impressed and blown away with every new project you are on. So I just want to say, thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the amazing creations throughout the years, and showing me that anything is possible! Cheers mate!
a true hero in the industry and grew up idolizing you sir, I attended the savini program in pa with high hopes for a career to follow in the footsteps of my heros and sacrificed everything to do so I sure wish I could have spent my time with one who cares as much as you. im a father of three sons in hopes to keeping our dreams of this lifestyle around and "I'll keep begging the industry so just maybe I could get a real opportunity to have this as a career instead of a hobby. your the best Rick.
wow amazing - I learned more in this video about shading and highlighting than a year at college! You should be a teacher such a highly skilled artist! And no never too old, man!! Thank you for sharing!
after all these years and you look incredible, youre a handsome man. by the way i love american werewolf in london great work, youre a true inspiration.
Rick you might not see this comment but if you do I just want to say that you are my inspiration. I'm in art college in Dublin and my dream is to one day be minutely as good as you. You are a legend!
Rick, you are and have continued to be an inspiration to me. Were it not for you and The Making of Thriller video I may not have travelled down the monster maker path!
I just cannot use words to express how amazing you are at your craft. For over a decade I have dreamed how amazing it would be to work for you. Yes, tons of hard work but to be a part of something so amazing and spectacular would be so worth it. Ok, I'll shut up now. Lol.
As a currently lost (metaphorically speaking) filmmaker I've learned a great deal from watching the Thriller Behind the Scenes VHS tape back when I was diapers and since then much more. Thank you sir for your contributions as an artist. Best wishes. - Elliott Alexander Salinas
This video is AMAZING! Mr Baker I've been your fan an following you since 1981 when I filmed the Oscar scenes of the AAWIL with my father's Super 8 camera! I was fascinated with what you had done with that transformation! I was 14 years old then and I am 46 now and I'm still amazed! I've been following your career as much as I can here in Brazil. Of course the internet got everything closer! All I want to say is that I love your talent and your art! I admire you so much! Thanks for everything!
Mr. Baker, I am, as always, left in awe... another incredible demonstration of your raw talent and wizard-esque mastery of the arts. You are our da Vinci... The Samurai Badass of Our Modern Renaissance. Digital art is it's own medium, deserving respect and appreciation no less than any other, but we all know "REAL" when it stares us in the face. Some of us still want to play, even if the power goes out... and from one monster loving big kid who loves to "play dress-up" to another... Thank you for doing what you do.
Amazing!!! You Sir, are a TRUE inspiration!! I've loved your work for ages! Because of you, I am a make up artist. I remember watching MJ's "Thriller" and telling my father that I wanted to be YOU when I grew up. May the Gods give you many more years to live and grace people like myself with much more of your art! You ROCK!!!
Aside from the Makeup application, I found this to be a most exciting performance. A Hand Ballet/Cerebrum presentation. Danny Elfman's composition, Yes! Bravissimo.
ProvineStudios, Thanks so much for telling me about your students, it made my day. I am always asked what this is suppose to be and now I know "Mango Man". I was actually thinking more Basil Gogos when I did it. But from now on he is "Mango Man".
Wow. This is so inspiring. Thank you for posting videos so your fans can get a glimpse at your techniques and so we can watch you at work. You're incredible!
Very nice job Rick! Been a longtime fan of yours. Always top level work from your studio. Still a very big fan of old-school FX. Computers have their pro's and con's like anything else..it's just one of the tools in the box. Looking back at films from the 80's and 90's that had no CG I am astounded. I can appreciate the work more so than ever.
amazing! you make it look so easy. its great that a makeup artists so great as yourself, that has made some of the most amazing films in history, makes us these great tutorials. Thank you for inspiring me with your work!!!! And keep doing the tutorials please.
Master baker ,ever since i witnessed your mind blowing work on an american werewolf in london (and promptly shit my pants in the process at the transformation scenes!!) I've always bent down on humbled knee, bowed my head and continued to pledge my allegiance to your unlimited creativity and the awesome contributions you have made to horror cinema! We are but lowly insects in your god like presence!! I never expected the man(who shaped my childhood) to turn up on youtube with his own account!!!
Holy shit! I'm sleepy watching this, laptop on my chest, and full screen. and for a second my eyes closed and I dozed only to wake up for the last 5 seconds! YEEK!
Rick i've only just found you have a youtube channel, (i've been hiding under a rock) I've been following your work since the early days of An American Werewolf in London. It was partly you that got me into make-up effects,,,.. This is great stuff and still a pleasure to see your fun and passion.
I LOVE YOU!!! you are truly an inspiration. I can watch your work all day. I cant wait to pick up your collection from MAC. Its def going to be a wonderful Halloween this year!!

You're the Master! You're artistry is legendary. I love this but my favorites are still Harry from Harry and the Henderson's and of course the Grinch was phenomenal. I would be privileged to work for you, even if I was sweeping the floor... Keep posting. These are great! thanks Lee
Rick, This is incredible as always! You completely transformed yourself. If I didn't know it was you at the end, I would have no idea! Really awesome :)
WOW I'm impressed! Amazing work, you are really good at painting! I do beauty makeup and I'm a beginner in Special FX but there's no way I could replicate that.... I watched all the MAC videos featuring you, I'm amazed by everything you can do with painting! The makeup looks definitely look 3-dimensional, the contour and highlighting job is crazy good.
it is a great privilege to see an artist of your caliber work, Mr. Baker! I also found myself, a portrait and figure painter in the Classical style, startled and chuckling to see you use regular artist brushes in your makeup! My all-time favorite of your superlative creations is Ron Perlman's great makeups for "Beauty And The Beast". I painted a portrait of your Vincent which I have to this day. Do you have any record of his design process? I'd love to see it if you do. Thank you, Mr. Baker!
Thanks everyone for looking and for the nice comments. Ed they are all MAC products. The activator you saw was MAC Gel Mixing Medium. If I can figure out how to do it ,when I get time, I will add notes to the video as to what I am using and what color it is. I will try to add more videos, not only make-up but also sculpture and painting. Speaking of which my Sculpting Schlitzie video is fun you should check it out too. Thanks, Rick
Its so great that you have a channel! I've been such a fan of your work since An American Werewolf in London back in the early 80s :) You are so amazingly talented! :)

Mr Baker is a heavyweight of pure "real stuff".

Very nice mr B. It's amazing how people these days forget how effective a bit of traditional 'non-appliance' makeup can be. A master at work.
Wow..... I want to watch it again and again. Such a pleasure and inspiring to watch. Thank you for making this available. A true artist.
Rick you might not see this comment but if you do I just want to say that you are my inspiration. I'm in art college in Dublin and my dream is to one day be minutely as good as you. You are a legend!

This is so amazing, words cannot describe. Having an almost emotional reaction to this-in a good way. Fantastic.
