Playing through Hollow knight was one of the highlights of my life. I played it recently in my last few months of high school before graduating and preparing for college. While playing I had this moment when I made it to the city of tears, I was hit with an emotionally gripping sense of happiness and sadness all at once. I recognized at that moment that this would most likely be the last game that ever made me truly feel a pure and direct joy which made me feel like I was 8 years old again. The game caught me like a river current and just took me along for an incredible ride, now that it’s over I almost break down in tears from time to time knowing I’ll never experience this again. Games just aren’t the same anymore.
The physics of Hollow Knight are strange but fun. Perhaps I am the only one thinking that way, but learning attacking and jumping was harder compared to other games of that style. But once you learn how it works it’s really fun.
Im really picky with games. I play a new game I got, I lose interest in about an hour. Then commence boredom till I find something else. Rinse and repeat. I tried hollow knight expecting it to be the same way but I was wrong. Its everything I had ever wanted in a game, now I have a bar set up high. Some games like pokemon (Which I got every new game of) didn't seem as good anymore, they seemed empty. This game has affected my life so greatly and sometimes I get sad that Ill probally never find another game quite like it. Although we can never lose hope for another masterpiece like this.
Honestly my favourite game of all time, never have i been blown away by just how perfect a game is (for me of course) until I played hollow knight. Gorgeous art, outstanding story, tight controls, engaging combat and secrets galore. Cant wait for silksong to trump it in every way
Same thing. Silksong looks like a whole fresh and complex take on the already perfect hollow knight formula. definitely getting it as soon as it comes out

@@HidinginPublic I've binged a bunch of your videos, and I wouldn't use the term "depressing." There's too much connotation with helplessness and isolation. Even when making a video on something as widely discussed as Hollow Knight you still find a way to approach it from a completely different point of view I hadn't heard before. Nice work. Also welcome to the bug club bro. Get hype for Silksong!
I picked up the game and loved it. Im currently trying to 100% it by getting all of the steel soul and speedrun achievements. Im also trying to do the godhome stuff. Im really excited for silksong.

Fantastic video. Hollow Knight is one of my favorite games of all time and your theory about it being the culmination of indie games makes a whole lot of sense. The combination of simple childlike drawings with dark and twisted themes always reminded me of The Binding of Isaac, and it's also appropriate how it's a Metroidvania with a harsh penalty for death, as Metroidvanias and Roguelikes are the two genres that the indie scene brought back from the dead. Also, I never thought about how deep and difficult to decipher lore can foster an active community and how many indie games have taken advantage of that. Speaking of indies, have you played Celeste? You would LOVE Celeste.
Thanks that's definitely an awesome thing to hear. It's scary switching things up and risking people just not caring anymore. Glad you like the little variety

Indie games have so much potential. I feel like it's a shame the mainstream game industry chooses to focus more on virtue signaling with indie games rather than the games' merits themselves. Excellent video, and all the best to your sister :)
you're the only channel for which I've activated notifications. so whenever a red number is displayed, I know something good has happened haha! oh yeah, and please get some sleep!
Personally, the best part of Hollow Knight is its incredibly designed world. I was motivated to explore by the desire to uncover the secrets of this strange land and the lore that lies beneath them. The Kingdom of Hallownest really displays the power of good world building and how it can motivate players to wander off the beaten path. Hollow Knight: Silksong is definitely going to be a day one purchase for me! Just by watching the trailers, I can already tell that Pharloom is going to be even better than Hallownest!
For some reason I never really got into hollow knight in the same way I did other games such as Celeste or Enter the gungeon. I think I'll try again however because it does seem like something I could get invested in. With that said is there any tips I could get for beginners?
Don't be put off if the first few hours are a bit boring, because they are basically just an extended tutorial for the game and the further you get, the more engaging it's gonna be. Don't be too concerned with going the right way, go for the explorer mentality instead as there is something worthwhile to find in pretty much every direction. If you're stuck in one place, there are always at least 5 other directions to try out. The most powerful upgradee you can get are damage upgrades. Lastly, fight bosses reactionary, as in dodge first and then attack.
I’m not gonna lie, there was a bit in the video where I was so heavily focused on the gameplay of Cave Story my mind went blank. The game is indeed “deep”.
I play a lot of 2d games and indie games and to me, Hollow Knight was like a regular 2d game and I only played it casually without much thought. Until I fought the Mantis Lords Holy Shit That fight literally hooked me to the game god DAMN Gdhsjsbsusi 10/10
I love Hollow Knight and appreciate all the praise it's getting but this video honestly falls short of the critical analysis HK deserves. The claim that HK pays homage to 10-20 years of Indie development is spot on. Backing that claim up with a single piece of evidence in the Path of Pain being reminiscent of Super Meat Boy just doesn't prove it out when there are more than 19,000 Indie games available on Steam. Please take this as constructive criticism, you have a way with words and adding a little more research to your arguments would turn videos like this terse and redundant HK video into a truly enjoyable viewing.
I talk about Cavestory too and draw lots parallels but yeah it's not super indepth, and also briefly touch on lore based viral games without mentioning exact ones (like dokidoki or fnaf) like I say in the video this is my personal experience and how I see hollow knight in the cultural zeitgeist. I haven't played 1000 indie games so I can only attest to my personal experience.
