I’ve been using waymo for over 3 years in phoenix. The days of Uber and Lyft are numbered. Every drive I’ve taken is a good drive. Truly incredible and lucky to be one of the first to use it daily.

I'm glad that this company is talking about expanding their business to Japan. A lot of cities in Japan has a labor shortage in their Transportation Sector (they're in need of a lot of bus, taxi, and truck drivers.) And because of that; Japan has been forced to allow a lot of low skilled foreigners from poor and dangerous countries to come to work and live in Japan this past decade. Which has unfortunately caused an increase of crimes in some Japanese cities. Innovation and technology like this can fix that type of problem in Japan and other countries that have are also facing this type of issue.
I ride Waymo weekly! It’s incredible, safe, smooth… I don’t think I’ve ordered an Uber in months. It’s a shame but I 100% agree with SCB - the human element of ride share is often the worst/scariest one :(
Well, that's lots of jobs going away. What are people to do in order to earn a decent income? Post TH-cam videos of them using an autonomous car? After a while people will get bored of watching those videos. 🙂
We took Waymo 15 times in San Francisco. I LOVE Waymo. I want a Waymo. Waymo is amazing and actually is a better driver than most humans. I learned some things from Waymo. Waymo is smooth, efficient, and patient and SAFE!!! I volunteer to be an ambassador for Waymo. We need Waymo everywhere!!!
It would be interesting to know what the car would do in a life and death situation. For example, if the passenger has an heart attack, would it automatically take him/her to the nearest hospital or alert paramedics ?
inside u have the cameras so if that happened u can press button for the tech support and tell him that u need hospital, and he can give new coordinate to a car and they will drive u there
@@MirdaDeLaVega9851 As far as cameras and calling tech support are concerned, I figured that out, but the question remains what if the passenger isn't able to do that on his own due to lack of strength or if he/she just passes out?. Also, in cases of other emergencies, humans are better equipped with common sense as to what can be done rather than just depending on AI for everything. I am not against technology, but sometimes, its best to do something ourselves. :)
@@BhaaskarDesaithey have cameras inside the car they see you at all times. So I guess they can change your destination and say drive to the hospital or the car will park and support may call an ambulance and give the location of the car to them
I've used it in Phoenix a couple times. My advice to everyone, if you're going to a busy bar or restaurant, go to a nearby, empty location. The vallet was clearly unhappy and it caused chaos in the bar/restaurant parking lot 😂
AWESOME!!! Since the layout of the streets of San Francisco can be extremely convoluted, I am very surprised there are not more issues. I find it extremely impressive that Waymo obtained regulatory approval and put robotaxi's on the road before Tesla despite all their publicity and hype that pervades the internet. Congratulations!!!

important UPDATE: passengers can select their location and distination by smart phone application so one taxi can pick up more than one passenger on the same line , this will reduce traffic jam.

And I do believe that it will get me to where I need to go safely without being assaulted or robbed on my way out!

I would be comfortable in this and what would be better would be to have all other cars driverless as well. The cars would communicate better and faster and avoid traffic and be more efficient

I am terrified of what the government will do to shake us down when everyone has an electric self driving car. People won't be paying gasoline taxes or paying traffic fines because they have a car that drives itself perfectly and doesn't commit citable offenses.
I mean won't it be actually good if everyone has a self driving car let cops do actual useful things. Like now they can spend all their time searching for serial killers, robbers etc instead of watching traffic.

Does somebody know how much this ride cost now? And how much it is actually cost? I'm thinking it should be much more expensive than Uber. Because uber drivers have on average a 10K car and here is 75K only one lidar! I think this car can cost at least 200K! But the milage before you have to replace it the same as for normal cars! Plus all technicians to serve this cars and rides, and they are legal workers, not uber drivers. And who will clean the car after every ride? Next rider? Our brain is not very fast, but it definitely works smarter than any modern software. And that's what I'm talking about. A person can predict the behavior of another driver, even if he does the exact opposite of what he intends to do =) I especially think this is true when another car starts to move from a side road. When a person is driving, they may notice that the person has just gotten into the car and turned the wheels, and if she hasn't even turned on her turn signals, you will be ready to slow down or stop to let her pass. The robotaxi will simply drive at the speed limit because the other car isn't moving, and if she didn't check her mirrors or the robot was in her blind spot, there will definitely be an accident here and the expensive side lidar will be gone.

Truck drivers, the elderly, and people who have long commutes to work would benefit from that kind of advanced technology. I had instances where I almost fell asleep behind the wheel.

I would feel far safer with this than Tesla. Main reason is lidar vs pure visual. Thing is, I think pure visual needs "life experience" in order to decide whether something is dangerous or natural, etc. For instance, the original Tesla autopilot accident: car didn't see semi crossing road because the trailer color blended into sky. Human would have understood. Lidar would also see it. Also, Elon Musk is far more risk tolerant than a consumer car manufacturer head should be.

I drive Lyft everyday in San Francisco and I have never encountered problems with Waymo cars stopping out of the blue and delaying traffic as I have with Cruise cars (which the city banned after it dragged a pedestrian a few feet down the street). I'm not afraid that it might drive me out of business one day. You know, change is what progress is all about. New tech comes in to fill the needs of society and just as old jobs cease to exist new jobs are created. Autonomous cars are here to stay, there's no going back, we just have to accept it and learn how to adapt to the new.
Only problem with these I can think of is if someone decides to put something in front of the car or stand there then you're stuck. Or if you got hacked like on Upgrade.

Ive used Waymo, 12 times when I went to Phoenix, all 12 times, it was super smooth, safe ride, defo would totally use this over a real taxi.

Tesla has no redundancy and no geofencing, they won't get approved for years. IMO Tesla's FSD is at least 5 years behind Waymo.

It will likely follow the policy similar to Uber or Lyft. Mostly like pull over and alert first responders.

Teslas use cheap cameras. No expensive lidar or radar. Thatswhy they will never have legal real full self driving as Elon claims every year lol.
