I still have got my Fake 4K Epson 5050 and it still looks wonderful but if you have the bones definitely get the best for sure. JVC makes great projectors.
One of the first detailed reviews of the JVC DLA NZ700 has come out and really makes the compelling case to have an all laser projector lineup when supporting the latest HDR standards, with how much the lamps drop off so much in brightness after just 2000 hours of use, with laser even after 20000 hours to half brightness still being significantly brighter than the UHP lamp at the end of its lifecycle. With the NZ700 being 2300 lumens it is shown in comparison to the outgoing 2500 lumens NZ8, with and without the P3 filter the brightness output is very similar. There would be a good case now to add a new mid spec NZ750/RS2500 to the lineup at 2500 lumens to step up to the full size native 4K chassis with all features from the NZ8 but using the next generation two way 8K Eshift using the 120hz driver, compared to 8K EshiftX Gen 2 on the NZ800 and NZ900 on the 240hz driver, so adding slightly more brightness and support for 8K60, 4K120 and 3D standards over the NZ700 which is limited to 4K60 and 2D only, with the same 80000:1 contrast. NZ7/RS2100 was great value model for a laser to be able to deliver a better than 4K resolution at double the number of addressable pixels for a value price that was definitely worth the step-up over the previous lamp based NP5, that should get a replacement with the next generation of the two way Eshift technology. simplehomecinema.com/2024/09/30/jvc-nz700-review-jvcs-compact-native-4k-powerhouse-projector/
Projector manufacturers really not want me to upgrade. I am looking for a 3D capeable machine that can drive a 3m wide screen with the same brightness as the professional laser machines did with Avatar 2. I figure it’s too soon to say if the NZ700 is or isn’t?
@@roco9504 there is nothing in the marketing material of it being 3D ready. The lineup of all the models shows the previous ones with the 3D logo, but not those two new ones. Just like Sony and Epson did with their new models.
This was my dilemma. I ended up choosing the JVC NP5. I had to settle with the fact that this one wasn't laser but was within my budget and had all the features I was looking for. Luckily I had an Xpand 3D RF emitter that I never used and it works perfectly with the JVC projectors.
I have the X790 (130,000:1 native contast) and it's stunning on my 120" screen. Itching to dive into laser, but concerned whether or not I'll notice the "poorer" rated 40,000:1 native contrast on something like the NZ500. Am I now spoiled by the X790's black levels?
You will notice both unfortunately. I know cause I had to return one and kept the rs540. Maybe the 80000:1 higher end model will do the trick and not be as obvious in the contrast drop?
This looks a lot slimmer then the older molded, it looks like they changed the dosage a bit. No wifi why ? Makes it really hard to update for some. I know why they are ditching 3D but Wi-Fi ?
The NZ7 had HDMI 2.1 with full 48 Gbps bandwidth, 8k E Shift, 3D capability, theater optimizer, and auto tone mapping. All of which are no longer on the 700. Is 80,000-1 instead of 40,000-1 contrast and a 100 more lumens enough to upgrade considering what they took away? Appreciate any input. Hope someone can make a side by side comparison comparing pro’s and cons soon.
The contrast ratio will be VERY similar in real life, the black level will be better on the nz500 and 700 and even ansi contrast so aside from losing the 120 and 3D, the pq will be increased and the chassis is smaller
They went with a smaller body because more people want something smaller for non dedicated movie rooms. 3D is really dead for most, it is a very small niech market. This is going after the general movie watching people, maybe who don't have a dedicated movie room but want native 4k.
@@scotttild appreciate your input. Interesting take though. 3D is one thing, but with next gen gaming consoles supporting 8k 60 and 2.1, I would think the NZ700 is geared for dedicated theaters without a gaming system. I think for a dedicated HT, this is great. But for multi use and those who want the most out of gaming on a large screen, the NZ7 is a better fit.
Good stuff. The new 80mm 15 element (vs the 65mm 17 element in older models) lens on the 700 looks interesting. So comparing the 700 to the 800, the 700 lacks 8k eshift, no 3D, no 4k 120, 400 less lumens and 20k less native contrast ratio. Is there anything I’m missing?

Honestly, can JVC or Sony just sell us a pixel shifted LCoS? $6K for an entry level projector is ludicrous. And don’t talk to me about their lone DLP- it gets LAPPED by premium DLPs from other makes like the BenQ HT4550i/W4000i ($3K) and 3LCD pixels shifters like the Epson LS11000 ($4K).

Rewatching this. As much as I like the content it's obvious it's very much filtered/sponsored. Michael I'm hoping your channel grows to the poj t you don't need to do these sponsored bits. We trust your reviews and at least for me, your average consumer, it's harder to trust what you say when I know you are being paid for these words. Much love and success
The reason CEDIA booth coverage are sponsored videos are to cover my costs to travel for myself and my videographer (hotel, Uber, flights, food for 5 days), plus that’s 5 days I cannot do anything that would otherwise generate income (opportunity cost). Yesterday we filmed 4 videos, each of which take 1 - 1.5 hours. We finished the day, grabbed dinner, came back to the hotel and I start editing. One of the brands paid extra for a same day edit so I’ve been working on it since we got to the hotel. The video features 6 brands and is 1hr and 8 min long. It’s now 3:20am and I’m exporting the video and still have to upload it to TH-cam, create the thumbnail and write the description, all before leaving for my flight at 6am. This is my full-time occupation. I’m assuming you don’t work for free and neither do I. No one is paying to say anything. I’ve owned (2) Panasonic projectors, (1) Epson and my last three projectors have been JVC for a reason. We’ve done blind A/B comparisons at MWAVE and my eyes always chose the JVC’s. Sony paid me as well and their video will go live tomorrow as they paid for same day edit as well. I was up till 2am yesterday editing that one. I reached out to Epson about covering their booth and they declined. I’m willing to cover any brands booth. So I’m genuinely curious why you feel my content is filtered and why you feel it’s hard to trust what I say?
I'm still waiting for JVC to produce another affordable projector with the contrast performance of the legendary rs640/x990. I ended up switching to OLED for the superior visual performance. Our 16x25 HT has a max screen size of 100-110" 16x9, and I'm betting on a panel TV in that size that outperforms any consumer projector, seems even more likely in the not too distant future. If JVC, Epson, Sony or others would offer better value for my use case, i might reconsider a projector in our HT Alas, all of the better 100 nit limited projection solutions are priced beyond what i believe to be reasonable. Not very compelling in a market where 500-5000 nit panel TV solutions are so numerous, impressive, and offered at lower cost of ownership. . Maybe if our HT had been designed to host a larger screen size, i might share the opinion regarding image size out weighing image quality. I regret projectors are such a niche market, and thus, the solutions are overpriced. As a consumer, i prefer the more competitive and consumer friendly environment of panel TVs. Thanks for the content.
I think they will get there, JVC contrast is always improving. When you increase native resolution (native 4K) and brightness contrast becomes more difficult.
Real shame they skimped on HDMI 2.1/120Hz for the NX500/700. I'm sure they will be great projectors all the same, but in 2024/2025 that's really just not acceptable and a very obvious sales tactic to push people to spend more on higher-end models.
2. 1 is really if you want to do competitive gaming and if you are doing that most people would have a TV. 2.0 is just fine for all content watching to be honest. 2.1 give a bit more speed that you don't need for general gaming and content. Most likely why they left it out. 2.1 is sitll buggy also. I would rather not have it.
@@scotttild If you are a COMPETITIVE gamer you aren't on a TV, you're on a dedicated 240Hz monitor. Neither TVs or projectors are for this type of audience. HDMI 2.1 with 4K @ 120Hz capability on a projector makes a noticeable improvement over HDMI 2.0 60Hz, on hardware/games that support it. This is just a fact. There are no persistent bugs with HDMI 2.1, it's well-established now.
@@frangipani-dreams True but like I said competitive gaming is really the only reason you need 2.1. For everyone else if you just doing a bit on the side 2.0 is going to be fine for most. People who are buying projectors are not doing it for gaming, that's for sure and they are not designed for gaming. I am glad they left it out along with 3D it just makes it more expensive for things most people don't care about.
@@scotttild Uh? No, competitive gaming is absolutely not the only reason for HDMI 2.1. 120fps gaming is simply superior to 60fps. That is just a fact. It's snappier, smoother and just feels better in every way (assuming you have the hardware for it - granted, many consoles won't get there anyway). Gaming is certainly not the primary use case for projectors, but the HDMI 2.1 standard has been around for nearly 8 years now. It is not a new technology, so there is no significant uptick in cost for including it. However, it is understandable why a manufacturer would NOT include it so as to push that smaller subset of consumers who want it to buy a more expensive model in their line-up. This is just common sense marketing.
JVC and Sony more so has really been a let down for the last 4 years. But we have Epson this year with 6000 and 10000 lumens so all is good for the same price or less. For this cedia demo JVC are using 1.3 gain screen to make up for the lack of light output.
If you have a living room setup, you’ll likely want an Ultra Short Throw projector with an ambient light screen. Standard projectors are designed to be used in a fully light controlled room.
@salvatorecarapazza248 Epson makes a great looking projector, but that absolutely was not the case in our blind comparisons at MWAVE two years in a row.

Thank you, Youthman this is a nice commercial video but you should let JVC talk rather than taking so much!
I could hold the camera and let you interview if you prefer?
I'd like to see some of these "budget" projectors being compared to the Epson LS1200 as that's the one winning for my next upgrade.

JVC and Sony more so has really been a let down for the last 4 years. But we have Epson this year with 6000 and 10000 lumens so all is good for the same price or less.
For this cedia demo JVC are using 1.3 gain screen to make up for the lack of light output.
No 3D and way too dark at this price for a living room setup
If you have a living room setup, you’ll likely want an Ultra Short Throw projector with an ambient light screen. Standard projectors are designed to be used in a fully light controlled room.
Today’s technology is quite impressive compared to a supercharged bulb projecting through film.
The bulb projectors are still excellent. I think the bulb projectors even have better blacks. Of course, a lifelong Lazer would be nice.
@@truhunk1 Indeed, I still use bulb myself.
JVC finally matches Epson. Thank God. They have been behind for a long time.
Don't care. Do a side by side comparison work people who know nothing about projectors and the Epson won every time
And be a man and use your real name. Do you have something to hide 🤔
Yeah, great to see JVC offer a laser option at an "entry level" price. Kudos to JVC for the NZ500.
@salvatorecarapazza248 Epson makes a great looking projector, but that absolutely was not the case in our blind comparisons at MWAVE two years in a row.
Awesome! So that was a blind comparison with people who know nothing about projectors whatsoever. I stand corrected then. Thank you
Still préfèr sony. I prefer have a 4K with an awesome image and technology than 8k projectors. The new Bravia look awesome
