      Agreed. He just edged Brad out as favorite guy to watch (that should make him feel better..LOL). I think he has the best commentary out of all of them--he quickly gets into the action and speaks quickly and moves on, love that. As a kitchen table ''pro'' with 20 buck buy ins, Lex you are welcome anytime to play with us!! Keep making us videos bud!!

    I can so relate to this frustration. Nothing worse than isolating a maniac after watching them donk off against other players and getting owned when they make a hand. It’s just tilting AF. You’re a good player and I have no doubt you’ll shake this one off and rebound.

      Either he pays you off or he doesn't, maybe loosen up a bit but don't try to force it with those kinda players.

    This makes me think of a quote from the late Lane Flack, a great professional poker player,never call off all your chips without the nuts!!! It’s a simple concept,yet, the money and ego cloud our minds from just folding. After all nobody else knows what you have unless you tell them. I know you show us and we appreciate your honesty and dedication to your fans in videoing the hands. There’s a very thin line to saving money and beating the variance. I learned long ago to just fold and Lane Flack has saved me tens of thousands of dollars over the years. Great videos as always Lex!

      If you only call off your stack when you have the absolute nuts then you are an extremely exploitable player. That is dumb advice.

      @@sinatra222 not every session you play is with players that are capable of exploiting you either. You can table select weaker opponents and actually make more money if the players on the table have big enough stacks. Sure, it’s exploitable if you’re always playing regs or pros, but if you’re playing recs, not so much.

    • @sinatra222
      @sinatra222 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@williamr4053 It sounds like you're saying that recs never go all-in unless they have the nuts, and that is simply not true. There are numerous times in any given session that I'll see a recreational player go all-in on a draw or with a made hand that is less than the nuts.

    • @michaelwillis4532
      @michaelwillis4532 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sinatra222 I’m smart enough to realize that. I never said to never call. Each hand is different my friend. Letting one go with tons of money on the line is not bad advice when you hold 5th nuts. I’m simply referring to his point about loosing these biggest pots that he’s ever played in. He mentioned 2 hands that cost him about 17k. That’s all I’m talking about. These 2 hands. Not the bottom full house over top full house hand either. I’m talking about a few videos ago and this video. Lex is way too good to be exploited by anyone. Thanks for your comment though. I see your point but it’s irrelevant to my post.

    Not a pro by any means but I actually think your reasoning with the QQ set hand at 5:02 should be the other way around. When you flop middle set you can bet since you unblock all the top pairs that you want to call you, whereas when you flop top set you block top pair so heavily you can be more incentivized to check if it’s a dry board given it’s hard to get value from other hands

    • @BrantzenPoker
      @BrantzenPoker 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think this is totally true in general, but they are playing insanely deep for a 2/5 game (Lex bought in for 800 BBs) so if he really wants to build a big pot, check raising would definitely accomplish that, and Lex unblocks some hands that can call a check raise, primarily AK

    • @BrantzenPoker
      @BrantzenPoker 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@smokinjoe4709 ok but think about this: if lex had KK and not QQ that means there would only be one king left in the deck. Even if someone has it, there’s still only a small chance that their other card would be a good one that they’d even play, let alone one they’d call a check raise with. If Lex has QQ, it’s much more likely someone could be dealt a good king that they want to start putting money in with

Our situation/lives are not even relatable...it sucks, but when I'm doing things against every fiber in my bones, it's no longer about skill or luck. You will turn this around. I understand you're vlogging and love the action...maybe play a little nitty for a session. Hey, even Rampage had to take a stretch of mucking a few that he would normally punt. New city, new home, new vibes, new everything. You got this...wish I could make Dec 1, but mid week from SC is a longer shot that me winning the WSOP.

    First of all i wanted to thank you for your vlog. As a hobby poker player every video is like a juice for my day. I really appreciate your honesty and also showing the downs of the downs.
    To the call with the action player i wanted to say: in my eyes your call was the right decision.
    The player was known for playing stupid like going all in with nothing or so. Considering the information you heard, the call was just the right decision cause you had top pair and the nut flush draw.
    In this context I imagine a player always going all in, the player might have aces… but it‘s very unlikely. You have to call this and I think you just got unlucky in this situation. In other words: you shouldn’t doubt your decision because every donkey has its day. You did right it‘s like flopping the nuts and losing to runner runner for me. Out of 10 times you win the pot 9 times against this type of player.. so good call!

    A guy might indeed be an "action player" but often have it when very deep stacks go in postflop. He may "punt off his entire stack" when his entire stack is 100bb, but not when his entire stack is 800bb. Or maybe he did "punt" it off because someone saw him flash a diamond and assumed he had a naked flush draw when it was actually a combo draw and he had 50% equity. Rec players in a live setting may not be able to tell the difference. Also a guy may like punting with his pals or other donkeys but despise paying off obvious professionals who he knows look at him as a VIP and a fish, and against you he may know who you are and tighten up. People with mountains of disposable income are not usually vegetables and they may very well figure out ways to leverage their image. Maybe the guy is a station or a chaser and will put his whole stack in on a draw as the caller, but when he jams, he's weighted toward value. But yeah we all have 20/20 hindsight and you might just as easily have folded and he nods and shows kj saying "yeah, I had it" and no one would bat an eye, they would all say you were a moron to fold top top with the nf redraw. Of course IF he has it, it most often being a flush, then only 7 diamonds are left and you have 14% equity on the turn. I think the way to avoid this is just to be patient and make this guy show *you* that he's the specific kind of action player who will shovel in 400 bigs as a bluff. Don't rely on others' perceptions of him which may be wrong, or worse, engineered by the player himself. 50bb deep in a $1/$2 a donk is a donk, but at these higher levels there could be more leveling going on and people know you.

    The thing about poker you learn everyday. Now you know you don't EVER EVER listen to outside noise about how someone plays. Yeah that's how they played against them but when they play against you they are nutted. Old school Texas hustlers will purposely dump a lot get word around than scoop up everything. Stay focused Lex still rooting for you.

  • @MXDRE907
    @MXDRE907 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I think there’s a touch of results oriented thinking about that big pot. Had you seen a bluff/over play OR hit the nut flush on the river after having given your reasoning behind the call, I bet you wouldn’t have given the hand a second thought of critical thinking.
    Secondly, I find it funny (not in a haha way) how so many people can’t differentiate between the different ways a super action player plays pots. ie: A blind all-in pre flop vs a check raise followed by a jam post flop. Action players like to gamble but they’re not stupid. If they check raise big on an ace high board and get called. They know they’re likely up against a big ace. That’s not a configuration they typically jam on as a bluff. It’s what they do for value when they’re trying to get paid off. Not absolute but I play every week with this player type and although we like to make blanket assumptions, there is a method to their madness that most people have trouble identifying.
    I’ve been on the losing end of those fun players plenty of times. It sucks but you’ll learn and will bounce back!

    • @Adam-gm9hf
      @Adam-gm9hf 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your break down of this hand/ player type is spot on! When Alex said he wouldn’t be shoving for 5k + on the flop after check raising turn I paused video to think. I felt the only hand he would bluff with was A ♦️ and Lex obv had that card in his hand. So either has to be heavy value right?

    Usually a big fan of the way you play. I find that people over embellish how “action” someone is and get you to call off light. I saw a similar vlog with Next Gen where some guy limp jammed 400 bb in 1/3. Anyone else would have put the guy on Aces but the “guy was drunk” so it was “unlucky that he had aces”.
    Keep playing your style, it’s very good and you don’t need to hit a home run with those kind of players. In fact, I hate playing against maniacs because I want to overadjust against them incorrectly. They make hands just as much as the next one.
    Good luck in your next session dude!

    The first hand i think you need to fold to after getting Check raised or use that river Jack and go for a big bluff. Easy to say after the fact. great vlog man!!

    I thought it was pretty funny that when Lex is talking about PUNTING off big bucks the video flashes a picture of Ethan Yao (Rampage Poker)! Lex; you devil! The content is excellent and I watch at least 5 poker vloggers regularly and yours rates among the top ones. Keep your head up; you’ll learn and do better.

    Yep, that crazy player will entice a call. Tha sad thing is, players like that wake up sometimes. Don't be too hard on yourself Lex. You learned, so let's just turn around and run good now!!!!

    I’ve been watching you a while man. I also lived in south Florida and now am in Dallas. If you drink beer, I’d like to take you out for one.

    I never post comments but just wanted to say love your videos and keep it up.
    Agree, don't think that was the spot to call off but life is about making mistakes and learning from then.
    On the flip side it made for great content. Your content is excellent and you seem like a very likeable dude. Do like how you show the ups and downs.
    Keep grinding.

    Happy Birthday!
    Ever try out the other poker rooms in Dallas?
    I've lived here all my life bud (I'm 51 years old)
    That golf course is near my parents house!
    Last time I was in TCH I looked for ya.
    I spend most my playing time in Poker House of Dallas 5 miles south of TCH.
