In 2012, there were 10+ buses of visitors at the caves. I plan to visit India next year and this is at the top of my list. America has no sites as fantastic as India.

There is no way this work was done with hammer and chisels. Basalt is almost as hard as granite and is almost impossible to carve with steel chisels and steel wasn't even available when this work was done(so we are told). It's a temple of bhuddisim, hinduism and jain only Kannada rulers were always respected all religions till now. The whole temple was funded and built by kannada king from rastrakuta dynasty.(krishna 1 and his decenedents)
