  • Special Topics in Twining: The 'Secret' Sharp Cornered Base
Here's the video so many people have asked for. Sorry it's taken me so long to do it! This incredibly simple manipulation of the spokes will provide you with that sharp edged transition between base and side of the basket.

Thank you Cael for these videos. They have been so helpful! I met you in May at the Stowe basket festival. I knew so little that I was instructed to practice twining for the entire workshop(lol)! It's been a slow go, but thanks to your videos I am making progress. I hope at some point you would share how you split the base into two and bring it back in again.
I so love your work and it was wonderful meeting you last May

Like a loom weaving term applied to basketry? The only thing I could think is when you are setting up the spokes you upsett them, setting has 2 Ts so upsett has 2 as well??

@@cynthiabaxter4061 AHA! Thank you! Now that you say that, I'm sure I've hear loom weaving friends mention a "sett of like 16 ends per inch". But I didn't realize that was with 2 Ts and that it's the same origin. Thank you!!

I'm primarily a knitter... One of my knitting heroes was Elizabeth Zimmerman. She came up with so many little innovations, but she called them unventions. Meaning that whole she came up with the technique on her own, she very much doubted that it was the first time anyone had done it. Hence unvention as her way of describing what you are demonstrating here :). Thank you for your wonderful videos.
