センダンの杢目は赤！その姿はまるで「赤富士」？！！
九州は宮崎県、霧島山の麓で夫婦で製材所を営んでいます。
木に取り憑かれて半世紀の男のロマンを発信中！
国産材、自然乾燥にこだわってやってきました。

栴壇の木は成長が早いのに木目が綺麗で田舎には幹の直径が1mを越える物が何本も有った。栴壇の実を鳥が食べ電柱に止まり糞から発芽して電柱の根元に自生し成長が早いだけにけっこ厄介だ。
Very impressive a high level of skill. I would like to see this mill working in person if ever I'm lucky enough to visit Japan again.

Some very beautiful wood grain to work with!
It’s surprising that the full weight of the slab is anchored on that last couple of inches for the return to the hoist!

栴檀と書いて「センダン」と読みます。桐の代用として棺桶等に使われてきた歴史がありますが、杢目の面白さから最近ではテーブル等の工芸品の材としても人気があります。今回の栴檀は形も独特なので、何か面白い使い方ができるといいなぁと思っています。カウンター等でしょうか？
天然木の素晴らしい木材、上手く特性を生かした製材で、見入りました。
動画で、はい、うん の連呼を変えて欲しいのと、
製材所の御二人が話してる言葉を 文字入れして欲しいです。
防塵マスク無しの作業で、木屑を吸い込み、体を悪くしないか心配です。

I envy you working with such beautiful timber every day. You pick some terrific logs and get the most out of them. Does the timber go to mostly cabinet and furniture makers?

I see checking at the end of the log. Were the ends sealed to force the drying to take place through the sides of the log after felling the tree? Beautiful log.

Why do they not ? Splinter ? All the way to the ends of the cut
boards? It wood seem that the drying slabs would warp. I would think the cost of a few splinter boards is not the reason. Anyone know?

With a band saw type, the size of the pulley is 48 inches.

the sawmill is so great, it's more hands on than a lot that I have seen. the wood is beautiful but the camera work on this one was terrible! we rarely had a clear picture of the grain and then when the camera person accidentally got there he moved too fast for us to enjoy. Very disappointing...
