How interesting. I play random with custom rules (almost all hard tricks with a few expert tricks thrown in), and I personally find underwater green gates easier than normal ones - can usually get them within 5

I still think the map randos should have an option to show you one complete map with all the individual map pieces fitted together. The individual area maps are still useful, but getting to have a sense of the whole shape of everything seems really useful to me.

you are asking too much of an amateur randomizer
also there are countless examples of metroidvanias that literally trap you in an area until you collect an item in that area to progress
When a game is purposely designed to progress a certain way, yeah, it makes sense to be 'trapped' in an area until you find the ability needed to escape. There are even other Metroid games that do this. But for a randomizer, when the game is essentially 'building itself' every playthrough, such a thing becomes a lot harder to account for. That's why this rando doesn't do that and will only logically send you down paths that you're already able to escape from.
@@qactustick sure, but one way to do it anyway is through elimination, I get it not wanting to commit to a softlock in hope that it unlocks somehow, but the process of elimination is valid as well, which was what happened, every other path was blocked with missiles, supers and bombs, you have only one option at that point. The rando doesn't need to guide you perfectly to the most logical answer, sometimes least logic is still logic.
This situation reminds me of the David Jaffe Metroid Dread debacle with himself complaining he had infinite paths to go to and he couldn't know that he had to shoot the ceiling, when in reality he had only one option and he was being stubborn.
