Love my Standard ‘50s spec (aka “the cheaper one”). Not an inexpensive purchase, but it’s a guitar I’ll play the rest of my life. I’ll probably spend more $$$ replacing cell phones in the long run.

Last year I finally bit the bullet and bought my dream guitar, for which I had started saving money in high school, about ten or twelve years ago: a 1956 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue. I love everything about this guitar, and even after the honeymoon phase has worn off, I'm still finding things to love about this guitar and I look forward to how beautifully it's going to age.
Most guys have a dream sports car or motorcycle. For me it was a guitar, and I couldn't be happier.

Well, you know, nobody is holding a gun to anyone's head to make them buy it. It makes the manufacturing more difficult and it costs more. If you don't think it's worth it that's fine. But if you do then why shouldn't you be able to get it? Martin guitars, for example, charge an additional $1250 if you want them to use hide glue in the construction of your guitar. If you don't believe in "tonewood" or that nitro makes a difference in the sound either then get an Epiphone.

I don't see the cherry Epiphone Les Paul on Epiphone's web site. Is it a current production model?

The Gibson USA aren’t “as close as you can get” they don’t have long neck tenons, no single piece body or hide glue construction. For Gibson USA prices you can get far closer for with a Collings, heritage, etc. tbh Gibson Custom is the true Gibson and their Les Pauls are amazing, noticeably better than Gibson USA, but wether they’re worth the price is debatable

I ordered a GLPC lefty with triple hums and a Bixby, cost £6,500.00. Yep I ordered one…in November 2020….still waiting for it to leave Nashville and be delivered to the shop in the UK.
I know the bloody serial number and the Gibson UK rep tells me I should get it in late September 2022. Here’s hoping…

Yep, I had a GLPC lefty 40 years ago, got married and sold it in 1992 to psy for a holiday in the Algarve, Portugal.
So, my wife said a couple of years ago that I could buy another one for my retirement. Due to the long wait, in March this year I bought a used Olympic white Strat made in Corona, Cal. I’m having lessons most weeks and playing every day. Love it…I’m 68 years young…

@@adriancoppin977 Thanks for sharing your story mate. I am 26 years old. Currently owning a fender Jimi Hendrix violet strat. Put an humbucker in the bridge.. it's so much more versatile. I used to own a gold top Gibson LP standard, but end up selling it because the strat body was/ is much more comfortable for my body.

The 50s standards are killer guitars. I bought a 2020 50s p90s, great guitar, put in lollar p90s and a throbak wiring harness and it really came alive. Ended up selling that one for 1700$ and purchased an r6 which I still have. Prefer the gold finish on the custom shop plus its a lot lighter, still both guitars are great

My only gripe with my Custom Shop 57 reissue is the height of the stock bridge pickup ring. It literally prevented me from lowering the action to where I wanted it to be. I bought a spare, sanded it down, and kept the og in the case. I get that they wanted it to be as true to the original as possible but that's one detail we can live without, sand those rings down a little.

I got a 97 ebony studio with gold trim and ebony fretboard, 496/500 pups, Locking bridge and tuners, CTS 500K pots, 50's wiring, At least I feel it's as good as I could ever afford. Got that classic look which is important to me. Plays so sweet and it's in a chainsaw case also.

Shame they can’t place the bloody Les Paul Model decal in the correct place on the US Standard models - any lower and it would be under the truss rod cover- and keep the vintage head stock shape on all models!!!!
