Got one in sunburst after the great reviews on how Gibson started caring about it's quality again. Gotta say I love it! Ordered it and was pleasantly surprised how beautiful it was. The wood grain lined up so symmetrical... plays well....got a few more payments to pay off.... looking at the Sg '61 reissue.

Once you have read the interview that Tony Bacon had with Seth Lover, you will realise that "German silver" is the material that you need for good humbucker covers. reverb.com/news/interview-seth-lover-on-inventing-the-paf-humbucker-and-why-he-left-gibson-for-fender-bacons-archive
Technically gold is not the right material for humbucker covers. Seth Lover never agreed with the decision of the marketing department to used gold for the covers.
It was that decision that made guitar players remove the pickup covers.
If you start with German silver, there is no need for that, but then the rest of the guitar should be Ni-Chrome too of course.

Amazing video Paul, there's no doubt that Gibson has made a mighty comeback these last years. I recently picked up a standard 60s iced tea and it is without a question the nicest craftsmanship I've seen comparing it to my pro ii strat, american tele, and PRS SE. It feels like it was made with love, played beautifully out of the box, and believe it or not, tuned it once and for the last 2 weeks has stayed in tune. Dropped the strings during the set up, gave the fretboard a nice shine, put some ernie ball strings on, and this les paul has become more of a shredding machine than my pro ii strat and that speaks volumes.

The 2019 LP traditional is the exact same as this guitar. These 2020 versions dubbed the "standard 50s" even have the same AA flamed top available. The 2 differences are that the 2019 Traditional does not have the pick guard attached (nor the holes drilled which imho opinion is a HUGE plus) and the truss rod cover says traditional. Otherwise they are effectively the same guitar. 0 weight relief, so they both feel substantial in the hand.
I managed to purchase a brand new 2019 Traditional for $1499 + taxes (with some back and forth with the manager) of a larger music store just a few days ago. I'm really please with the deal I managed to get. $1000usd less then what the "going" rate is for the "2020" models. I am extremely please with the quality. I had the entire guitar apart already. The routing of the cavities is very clean, the soldering and wiring job are top notch. The binding looks amazing and the frets are perfect. Maybe I just lucked out.
Btw if you feel like you are missing some "high-end or tone" from either pick up or they are "too bright" just slightly adjust the pickup higher or lower. I mean its really simple. The smallest adjustments make a big difference. People seam to forget that.

I walked away with two guitars, a Gibson ES-275 Thinline 2019 and a Fender MIJ Traditional 60's Stratocaster (because you know if you are in Japan you might as well pick one of these up!). Having played previous year ES-335s - horrid fit and finish and playability - I have to say I am very, very happy with my 2019 ES-275. Very nice for jazz. Fit and finish very, very good - almost excellent. And most importantly it plays extremely well.

When Gibson reissued the gold top in ’69 I took my hard earned money and bought one thinking it would sound like my instructors (but I was only 14 years old - I worked since I was 8 on weekends. The price was a massive $269.00 US., with the hardshell case! Don’t you wish they would go back to that price point?). It didn't sounds like the ’59. The 59’ is still my favorite.

Gage Pine Buying Gibson guitars is like playing darts. They have some serious qc issues. Just go to your local guitar store and pickup a few. When you get a good one it’s magical but good luck, I’d never blind buy one. What bugs me is the neck angle has been proven to mess with tuning and structural integrity of the Gibsons but they won’t change to keep it “original”. Regarding the push/pull Switch thing. I thought just the same way, until I recently got my Hands on an Epiphone Les Paul ES. That a Semi Hollow version of the Les Paul and it's absolutely stunning. And using the Push Pull Switches to split the Humbuckers just gives the guitar such an extra amount of tones... it's amazing. It can almost reproduce strat sounds and this just blew me away. So ifyou might ever get the chance to try out one of these, go for it. These guitars are amazing.
