    i rub A&D ointment around my nails on the skin before it gets exposed to the acetone. vaseline would also work as a good barrier. i highly recommend it

      @kleineoOoStern 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sherilyn L it really help but Vaseline is petroleum jelly so it’s as dangerous as acetone if used on a regular basis like once a month. The best way to remove gel safely is to file it really gently to minimise nail bed trauma, it takes a long time to do on two hands and it is compulsory to wear a mask but toxic chemical products must be avoided to keep strong and healthy hands and nails during all our life time ;)

      @@kleineoOoStern Did you just really say petroleum jelly is as dangerous as acetone? My chemistry major self is internally screaming lol Petroleum jelly is safe for external uses and helps hold moisture. Acetone is at most a skin irritant and if you're worried about inhaling it, don't worry if you're in a well ventilated area as you won't even be exposed to such high concentrations of it as a nail polish remover anyways. And no it's not "compulsory" to wear a mask, you're not getting arrested for not wearing one lol I think you mean it's "recommended"

    I’ve recently been to a salon where they put a hot pack onto my aluminum foil wrapped nails to accelerate and ease the removal. It helped a lot actually. The gel polish came off so easily. However, it made my fingertips feel a little weird for sometime. I guess it was extreme dryness from the acetone soaking into my skin more easily with the warmth. Very gentle method though.

    My nail tech uses pretty much the same process to soak off my dip powder nails. While I'm soaking, we pick out new colors & design (I like to do something different each time), and she'll prep her station (getting all tools ready, pulling colors from storage, etc.) It works well, and neither of us are stuck just sitting there! ❤️

    I learned from a girl that I worked with as a nail tech at The famous Breakers Hotel and spa in Palm Beach Fl. to put a warm towel from the hot towel cabby and draped it over the nails after we wrapped them all. If at home just wet and towel wring it out heat in microwave. Thanks

    EASY SUBSTITUTE TO USE AS SOAK WRAP : I know it is kinda silly, but I use the latex fingertip covers you use when trying to protect a bandaged finger tip. They are marked disposable but I reuse them only to soak. Like I said silly idea but it works with out aluminum.

    I do my own powder dip nails (since I've been unemployed) so to remove them, I rough up the shiny surface & drench a cotton ball in acetone. I bought these nifty silicone caps at Dollar Tree that hold the cotton on my nails. I wrap my hand in a plastic grocery sack then hold my hand under a heating pad set on low for 20 minutes. (This basically does the same as the steamer/remover, but with items I already have on hand!) When time's up, I remove the plastic bag, silicone caps and cotton balls. No more dip powder, no sticky gooey mess. All is on the cotton ball. I hope this helps some of you DIY-ers out there!

    Thank you for the wonderful video; your voice and mannerism is so calm and encouraging. I’ve been doing gel polish application and removal on myself at home for some time now; I found some plastic clips/covers on Amazon that keep the cotton soaked pad in place during removals. I have found this so helpful and easier to use than trying to wrap the aluminum foil on all my fingers at the same time. I also enjoy that they are reusable. Thank you again from a fellow Canadian!

    I got irritated with the tin foil too, so I went online and ordered these really nifty fingertip clips made exactly for this purpose. They're reusable, and you don't have to mess around with foil. Soaking off is what I do when I have glitter polish, because I don't want the glitter to go everywhere and stick to my file or bit. So a cotton pad and these little clips work marvelously.

    I have no patience for soaking 😂 I've just got into using acrylic and I use white as a base. When I want to remove my gel, I use my e-file and when it starts to show white, I know it's time to stop filing. I wear a lot of neon colours so the white base helps it pop but it's also a good indicator for removal ;)

    Huh, I thought everyone knew about soaking off gel. Well, I'm definitely going to try heating my acetone, because it usually takes me 20 minutes to soak mine off, and I usually have to file and scrape off the remnants - and I don't have fake nails, so that's a risky business. I don't use gel often, but it's the only option for nail powders.

    Thank you so much for this video! I love to paint my nails at home and gel is my go-to polish because it lasts longer than regular nail polish and I just like the way it looks on my nails. The removal process is the worst though. I finally figured out why. I've been using regular nail polish remover. My natural nails are worn down bad because I got frustrated and started filing and scraping. I am going out right now and picking up some acetone. This video saved my nails!

    She’s very right folks! I used a hand file to get gel off my natural nail and didn’t pay attention to how fast it was filing off. I also didn’t use a fine grit file.
    This was months ago! My nails are only just returning to their normal health. They’ve broken and chipped so many times and I’ve kicked myself dozens of times for being so careless.
    At the time I thought, “Oh this is going to be so easy, I’ll watch my videos while I do it!”
    A rookie mistake I’ll NEVER repeat my natural nails weren’t that strong to begin with.
    Don’t be be! Be Suzie! ;-)

    So helpful! I struggled removing some polygel nails a few weeks ago and since I didn't know how to properly soak them, I just popped them off (which was quite painful btw) and ended up damaging my nails. Now my nails are super thin and bendy and they hurt to put pressure on. So next time I do polygel or gel I will definitely try this method. Thanks, Suzie!

    Thanks for this video Suzie :)
    I have only tried gel polish three times at salons but stopped getting it because the nail techs, even when asked not to, would get impatient and use the e-file to remove the gel polish completely and my natural long nails would thin and break off every time. Maybe I can try again and do this myself at home to try saving my natural nail.

  • @CaroleMorin
    @CaroleMorin 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm going to file mine off from now on. I totally destroyed my natural nails because the gel came off on my nail bed but not on the free edge. Being a former nail tech, I knew this would happen but I got tired of waiting and filed and scraped it off. Now I have very short and super soft nails (probably only one layer left). I can use an e-file and just recently bought one. Thanks for the 2-layer base coat advice, I'm going to do that.

    I'm with you Suzie, I like a coat of clear acrylic on my nails & to file down to the clear acrylic. Soaking takes too long. If someone prefers a soak off, I like to have some foils pre cut. If you have some blunt scissors, tin foil is a great way to help sharpen the scissors. (A good tip for you 😊) 💖💅😊😘

    This is about how I get my glitter polish off since I can't manage to keep a peely base coat on that long, no matter how little I put on. Tin foil is so annoying that I got some of those finger clips from amazon (or a beauty store probably has them as well) to hold the cotton pad in place. So much easier! If you're doing this more than every once in a while, definitely worth buying those.

    I use some little plastic clips I got from Wish instead of foil when I soak off my gel polish. Less waste and stays on better than the foil in my experience.

    I usually do my nails when I watch a movie, so the soaking process isn't bugging me. But I have to try the warm acetone trick :)

    I love, love, love your channel. And would like to think that I've watched all of your videos.
    I do nails, acrylic, gel, hybrid, etc. from home and have quite a few clients. I haven't studied anything along these lines, all I know is self taught and researched by articles, and watching TH-cam videos (recently mainly yours).
    I've noticed recently that a few people would let me know 1 week (or less) later when a nail has popped off, or they experience some polish lifting (1out of 4 clients thus far)... especially with gel & hybrid or polygel.
    Now I follow the process of ensuring that the product isn't applied against the cuticle area; and I've started to use acetone to whipe and help dehydrate the natural nail bed before applying the product but alas... I'm hoping I could enquire from you about what it could be that I'm doing wrong, or is it that some just have more oil in their natural nails than others?
    Xoxo

    Suzie please try using the steamer that uses acetone to steam off your gel manicure.
    The results look much cleaner too (it comes off in one piece)

    Suzie, I love your channel. I've learned so much! I'm wondering if you've ever tried removing gel nails with dental floss? I do my own nails and within 3-4 weeks, they've grown out to the point where I need to replace them. I cut them as close to the end of my fingers as possible and then slide dental floss under one corner. They usually pop off within seconds. I'd love to know if you've tried this, and the pros and cons of this method? My natural nails are paper-thin (hereditary) so if there's a gentler method that doesn't take a whole afternoon, I'm interested.

      Truth be told, this is the worst method for removing fake nails off of natural nails. This is a very fast way on how to ruin your natural nails. I actually do a video about dental floss removal. Please do not do it anymore. Your nails will become thinner. The more attached the fake nail is to the natural nail the more damage it will do😳

      @@NailCareerEducation Oh, Suzie, I'm so glad I asked you about this! I remember a comment you made about artificial nails not harming the nails, but the way they are removed could. I'll look for your video about dental floss removal. I'm watching your videos now on various ways to remove nails, including the one with water. Thank you for responding!

    Thank you for all your amazing videos! I'm hoping that you can help me out with something that causes me to be very self conscious, not to mention physical pain.
    I have psoriasis in my nails(all ten fingers and all ten toes), and I can't really do anything with my nails.
    They look *super gross.* I have been to different nail studios and have been refused service because they thought I had a fungus (which I don't according to three different dermatologists, but I understand and supported their decision to refuse me service).
    Even the studios that didn't think I had a fungus were afraid to injure me and cause further damage.
    So what can I do? I find myself hiding my hands a lot. I have avoided doing things with friends and family like cooking and crafting specifically because when people see my hands, they're grossed out.
    I keep my nails trimmed and I do my best to keep the excess skin that grows under my nails clear, but they're still so gross.
    My hands have held me back from starting my own DIY craft/repair/random making channel because I know that my nails would be a huge distraction.
    I've found lots of tips via Google, but so much of it is just 'leave it alone' or involve some crazy, often dangerous sounding 'home remedies.'
    However, I don't trust most of that advice as much as I trust yours. You take the time to explain things very thoroughly. Any advice is very greatly appreciated.
    Thank you for your amazing channel!
    P.s. I actually use a lot of your techniques on crafting because I love to work with all the pretty glitters, foils, colors, etc., that are only really available for nail art. So thanks again!

    To remove my gel polish I usually do the same process but instead of preheating the acetone I just put my hand under the lamp for a few minutes after having wrapped everything and in less then 10 minutes I can easily remove it!

    Great video, suzie and camera man!! I use tin foil all the time. So much cheaper than buying the soak off kits(tin foil 99 cents vs. S.o kit $6 to $10). My ex says I'm so cheap I could squeeze abraham Lincoln out of his clothes, lol.
    Anyways you guys are awesome!! Looking forward to seeing your next video.

    I love your videos! I am a DIYer for my nails. I would like to learn how to reapply gel polish after I have e-filed off only the top coat and colour (keeping the base). What video of yours do you recommend for me to learn this type of reapplication?

    • @NailCareerEducation
      @NailCareerEducation  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Whether you have a colour on underneath or not the process would be the same. It must be completely smooth as in no hire pieces of product you might say buff as much as you can but still needs to have a grip on it to have Product stick to it

      @@NailCareerEducation I'm specifically interested in learning about how to apply the basecoat only to the new growth areas (or if I need to apply to the entire nail, including where the old basecoat remains). Nobody seems to give instructions on that topic.
