    The Undertaker's WrestleMania winning streak was, and still is, the stuff of legend. Fans would tune into WrestleMania every year for over 2 decades to see The Undertaker defeat another opponent, guys like Triple H, Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels, Edge, Diesel, Kane and CM Punk all fell victim to The Phenom at the WWE's biggest event of the year. The Undertaker and The Streak became a WrestleMania tradition that no one thought would end.
    At WrestleMania 30 in New Orleans, Brock Lesnar stepped up to take on The Undertaker. While the buildup to Taker vs Lesnar was similar to any other Undertaker WrestleMania match, the outcome left fans shocked. Brock Lesnar defeated the Undertaker, Lesnar became the "one in 21 and 1", and fans didn't know how to take it. Many thought that a mistake was made at WrestleMania 30, others thought Lesnar went into business for himself, it was theory after theory as fans came to terms with the legenedary undefeated streak ending at WrestleMania 30.
    This video looks at how the Lesnar vs Undertaker Mania 30 match came together, the reaction to the streak ending, and the reasons why The Undertaker's legendary sting of victories came to an end at the hands of Brock Lesnar.

    02:59 - The buildup to WrestleMania 30

      @@jasoncordray4957 I agree. There are two ways it should've gone: He should've lost to Bray the following year. It would've added to the idea that perhaps time was getting the better of Undertaker and that his days were numbered. Then you could run Sting vs Taker for his last match. That or you immediately run Sting vs. Taker as soon as Sting made his debut and the two face in a career vs career match.

      Brock may be a little stiff, but he's safe in the ring. It's also common knowledge how much he respects The Undertaker. I really wouldn't want to have been in Brock's shoes feeling what he was feeling as he knew something was totally wrong and having to be extremely careful not to hurt him further. It's a difficult position to be in for sure.

    • @hitomisalazar4073
      @hitomisalazar4073 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Oh I don't know about that. Some of the best sort of story beats and moments seem to have been last minute stuff. From the Rock vs Hogan WrestleMania match that they completely changed on the fly as they realized that the crowd was VERY different from what they expected. To even things like the HBK winning the European Championship from the British Bulldog in Britain. Sometimes the good idea comes late and you just have to call the audible.
      I definitely think as Vince said it was the right choice. That silence at the 3 was... probably tied with Hulk Hogan body slamming Andre the Giant as one of the most emotion packed moments and responses in WrestleMania history. It worked. And that point of "If not Brock, then who?" was right. Taker was getting old. He was getting out of shape. He had to put someone else over on the way out (as you do in Wrestling)... so who else was it going to be? And it looked at the time like that might have been his last WrestleMania with the condition he was generally in (no one I knew guessed he'd go on for 6 more years after that...).
      And you got an unforgettable moment that people will still probably be talking about 40 years later like they are with Hogan and Andre. It's so unique and powerful I can't see any creative type worth the name NOT want to pull that trigger on the way out for the Undertaker. Particularly if they have anyone with as much legitimacy and fit the Permanent Heel Forever as Brock Lesnar.

    • @MrBam79
      @MrBam79 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@hitomisalazar4073 This is absolutely spot on. If Taker had won this match, nobody would remember it. But here we are with people bitching about it left, right and centre to this day! I think, since the collapse of kayfabe, people have forgotten that pro wrestling is supposed to stir the emotions in the same way that real competitive sports do. They seem to think that every match should go the way they think it should, and by doing that, they make themselves bigger marks than ever - proving that Vince got it absolutely right.

    • @TheAli_D-Evil
      @TheAli_D-Evil ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hitomisalazar4073 The problem is WHO got over, Brock Lesnar ending the streak wasn't going to help him because he wasn't a wrestler going week per week to prove he was the best. And you only have to look at his (I believe) first WWE Champion reign since he return, with Lesnar only appearing in PPV to defend the champion and if you ask who he defend it againts you probable will never get a real answer.
      Brock Lesnar at that point shouldn't have been the one who ended the streak because he wasn't a regular, he would just come in, win, and that's it. While Hogan with Andre both of them where week after week in TV even before their rivality. (And I don't think such a comparison is prudent because yes, Undertaker's streak lasted longer but Andre had many more victories. Also that Andre was in better shape than Taker and had many more fights, while Taker was literally in his ending years. (And having said that, Brock's victory felt even less powerful because Taker was practically falling down because of his age, and defeating an old man who can barely stand up does not put anyone over (Difference between Rock Vs. Hogan)))

    • @TheAli_D-Evil
      @TheAli_D-Evil ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrBam79 If no one was going to remember the match because it didn't end the streak then Brock shouldn't have won at all. Is like saying Sid, Big Show and Train, should have ended the streak because no one remembers their match.
      And beside the end of the streak, what other emotion did the match got? The only other emotion I got was shame because Taker couldn't even stand up, and you will tell me how much more over can Brock Lesnar get if his opponent can't even make a basic move.
      Like seriously, tell me a good moment, a single one that put Lesnar as a strong opponent in the WHOLE match. 3 F5s? How many times Triple H and Shawn Michaels did their finisher?

Brock in his first run dominated WWE and whomever he went up against. The Undertaker was one of his victims. I have to be honest everyone. I was there in my Undertaker cosplay and near the very end before the third F-5 hit with Lesnar covering Taker, I was screaming and begging for the kick out and my eyes blinked at the same time the fatal 3 count hit and all the air escaped from my lungs as I gasped so heavily that I had a heart attack and collapsed to the floor and was out for what felt like forever. When I came, sitting up, I saw the haunting 21-1 sign and seconds later I was in tears and in a rage I had not felt before or since... but clearly this was the night where the magic of wrestlemania died along with the Undertaker's streak as well as most of my passion for WWE. Once Taker left the arena, I turned the TV off and I went to bed but I didn't sleep.... I was in tears of shock until the next morning still feeling the effects of what happened. This was the night that it all ended for a lot of us WWE fans and tragically that would only get worse when a week or two after Wrestlemania 30 and the end of Taker's streak, Ultimate Warrior would pass away and from there my depression deepened over WWE to where I came that close to being done with wrestling forever. 2014 for me was the darkest time for me as a fan of wrestling but somehow I was able hold on to some hope but clearly Wrestlemania 30 was the event the magic of it all ended and it no longer mattered... that was until Undertaker returned at Wrestlemania 31 in 2015.

    As soon as I see that notification, it can mean only thing, it's my man wrestling bios with another fantastic in depth video.
    I still say to this day that the only time the streak should have ended is if it was for an Undertaker retirement match and you knew 100% going in that it was going to be it.
    The historic win should have been for a guy who would have benefited greatly from such an prestigious honor in dethroning a true wrestling legend.
    Someone like Roman Reigns who is in his prime with a big future in front of him, all due respect to Brock Lesnar but he didn't need the rub as he was already a made man.
    What makes the end of the streak more heartbreaking was the match wasn't good and as a loyal Undertaker fan, he looked old, slow and out of shape. I would have slightly forgiven it if it was a great match especially as Brock Lesnar and Undertaker have done good stuff together in the past.
    Looking back now after over six years, ending the streak achieved nothing and as a result of it, Wrestlemania has lost its prestige and the show isn't as special as it was before.
    Undertaker has nothing to be ashamed of, a streak of 21 straight wins is still an impressive achievement and will never replicated.
    Keep up the good work 👍

    Brock really was the only choice that made sense at the time. The way I see it, breaking the streak wasn’t so much about cementing a new star that would carry the company as it was about creating a new “final boss” character, and Lesnar was the only guy in the company who had that potential.

    Man your videos are lit. I have never seen a channel so informative about superstars of wwe. Love your content. I want you to make a whole series on kane just like you did with the undertaker

    I always felt the streak ending should have been his last match

    I am thirty five years old and my love for wrestling has faded over the years, quite understandably so. I have a young family now, getting older, priorities/interests change.
    However, this channel had made me fall back in love with my nostalgic past passion.
    Thank you very much, keep it up, take care, stay safe.

    My friends and I stayed up to watch Mania that night at my best friends house. A few minutes in I noticed that Taker didn't look like his normal self, kinda sluggish. When Lesnar pinned him my friend who's a diehard taker fan just went quiet. Will never forget that moment.

    Roman Reigns would have ended the streak and the fans would have never forgiven WWE for that. The fact Lesnar had a legitimate past in fighting made him the only real option.
    I was stunned at the time but if the streak was to end, it went to the best man for the job.
    It’s not to say I agree it should have ended, but Taker was never going retire undefeated. It was rumoured for years he was too old school to not pass on the torch before he left. And even when it got to Reigns turn he was still hated for it. Imagine if it’d been for the streak.
