What a beautiful region, at this rate I'll have to visit Iceland for months to see it all, I'll never be able to afford it! 😭 I hope the Icelandic people know how much of a national treasure you are, capturing and preserving all these beatiful views while promoting Iceland to the entire world.
Gilfy, these kind of videos are the best! I like how you pay attention to some small details and places that you won't stumble upon the internet. Looking forward to next town/area.
Yes! Much more appealing than anything I've seen on the peninsula. This looks like the kind of place I could happily visit for a month or two to just chill out and go out exploring, maybe with a local guide if possible but not a package tour. I hate crowds, big hotels, tours, etc.
Well Gylfi...this video is truly astounding...I have read Egill's Saga many, many years ago (along with many others)...in combination with the Orkneyinga Sagas... the Viking Earl Thorfinn ruler of the Orkneys had a great friendship with one of our Scottish Kings...Macbeth...history is full of stories handed down...some more true than others...it is fascinating to actually see the grave of Skallagrimur out of these sagas is amazing...it appears that your psychologist description of Egill may well have been inherited from his father...‼ATB from Scotland 😃🌠
Great video Gylfi! (as always!). I visited some of these areas you mentioned on my visit to the snaefellsnes peninsula last year in April 😊 I thought it was a fantastic area to visit, I found borganes a little unusual! When I went it felt like a ghost town it was SO quiet and hardly any people walking around! But the peace was nice 😌 Was nice to revisit some places I went via your video! In August this year i am taking the road less travelled and I will be seeing the west fjords which I very much look forward to! Thanks again for another beautiful video. I LOVE your icelandic accent and commentary! x
A friend and I spent some time in Reykjavik for the Solstice festival and we did a few road trips out to the West a few days before, visiting Kirkjufell, Snaefellsnes and even went as far as Dynjandi waterfall one day, in the West Fjords, that was a long day driving! On each trip we would stop at Borganes for breakfast. There's some beautiful country in that part of Iceland
Thank you Gilfy for being a great ambassador for your fantastic island. Last year I've visited the Borgarnes area and saw a number of the highlights you described. However, I did not see them all so I've got a good reason to visit the area again. Greatings from the Netherlands!
Gylfi - you do a super job of presenting areas 'off the beaten track' = The Golden Circle. I love your honest approach to Icelandic traditions/myths and those wonderful vistas to be seen in northwestern and northern regions of your country. Thank you.
This landscape is just incredible and so diverse. The views from your drone are unmatched. There is so much to see and appreciate in this beautiful place and this wonderful video, not the least is your amazing skill of telling the story in words and pictures. Thank you so much for all you do. I will be watching this video many times - so much to take in!
Wonderful video! You have a storyteller's skill, plus the added bonus of being an excellent videographer. This is why I enjoy your videos so much. Thank you!
I agree there are many Golden circles in Iceland, many surprises as well! A ten day trip in fall of 2017 just whetted our appetite and we returned for a longer stay in the early spring of 2018. Many diversions from the ring road, a favorite being the far northwest peninsula. Amazing scenery and very few people. Thank you…
Ok. This is the most tempting video you have made so far. Both Egil Skallagrimson and Snorri! These are now my highest priority visits if I go to Iceland.
Good Lord...this precius country, and its always so damn brave inhabitants! Simply beautiful to see. And this man has such a smooth and calm voice. I wish you Gylfi and your family the best, and that these STUBBORN GIRLS (the volcanoes) doesnt let their air out all the time. Hugs from me and Sweden.
Another excellent video Gylfi thank you for showing us the many beautiful parts of Iceland which don’t involve lots of the explosive red stuff. It’s been a real education and eye opener. 👍💕
Gilfy, as I mentioned in a separate posting, I was just in Iceland. I really wanted to see Gindavik while there, even though I knew the town had been evacuated and is blocked off to visitors. We also weren't sure if the Blue Lagoon would be open due to ongoing last minute openings/closings. We lucked in and our detour took us past Grindavik. The weather wasn't great - rain, fog, hot steam coming up on either side of our vehicle, etc. My heart goes out to the people and place of Grindavik. We enjoyed our Blue Lagoon experience despite our not being able to see more than one foot in front of us most of the time when we were in the wonderfully warm pool.
When you are mostly housebound, TH-cam offers a window on the world. I have "been " to many places, but your videos top the list. They're absolutely beautiful to watch, cover so many facets, and in a short space of time you have painlessly given me so much information about your homeland. Somebody needs to take the Icelandic Tourist Board to task, maybe make you an honorary ambassador! Thank you for all you do.
Elizabeth, I am like you. I am retired and do not get out much. I will never be able to travel to Iceland but thanks to Gilfy I get a birds eye view if the most marvelous and unusual scenery of Iceland. While Social Media has it's flaws I am lucky to live in a time where all of this is at my finger tips. Thanks Gilfy!
Hi- I have put some "slow TV" videos on my TH-cam channel for people who can't get out. I have some more coming from northern Iceland. You are welcome to have a look. My trips in Northern Iceland have been inspired by Gilfy. I partly do them so that if one day later in my life I can't get out, I can still enjoy virtual travelling. You can have a winter drive to Siglufjörður if you like. th-cam.com/video/Ji7sv8nap78/w-d-xo.htmlsi=AZWZYvK24VqP_h6w
Fascinating learning about other areas of Iceland! 😊 Great job showing your country has SO much more to offer tourists than the USUAL hot spots. Theres clearly so many hidden gems out there that most r missing if they just all just keep doing what everybody else did. Fresh new tourist scenes that most haven't ever been to. Lots of gorgeous new nature pics to be taken that tons haven't already taken. New places away from droves of people that would instead feel more quaint , serene & peaceful. My fav was the view w/a lot of waterfalls cascading over the many ledges. Wow!! Breathtakingly beautiful! Cant wait to show hubby! Thx for sharing Gylfie! Take care over there. 👋
I wish you every success and hope you can make it to us some day but admit that Iceland is too expensive, It's restricting my travels around my country so I have to work around it in any way I can.
Wonderful wee tour of that corner of Iceland. Beautiful colours and scenery as always, but learning the history and some of the stories of the area is an added bonus 😍. Thank you Gylfi.
Gilfy, you do an amazing and unique job of sharing YOUR Iceland with the rest of the world. You clearly love your amazing country. I was just there for a week. I found it 'other worldly' and so so unique. I've travelled to 35 countries and I left feeling Iceland was a life changing experience. Definitely a high for a 76 year old Canadian. I'm currently enjoying reading Icelandic Professor Egill Bjarnason's book "How Iceland Changed he World'. Bjarnason is right - Iceland has had a major impact on the world, yet most of us aren't aware of it.
Thank you for reminding me with your video of all my travels I did in this region. We traveled with Erlingson Agency and found wonderful places away from the touristic main roads. Last I was in Iceland 2015 when it was not so overcrowded as today. I feel very sad what happened to my beautiful ICELAND. In my playlist of Iceland one can find all my memories of my hiking in beautiful nature far away from the main stream.
Always amused by what people call a village in different places around the world, having grown up in a place too big to be classified as a hamlet but not big enough to be a village. Beautiful photography as always, much appreciation from Australia
It could do with a bit more forest, given how much was clear cut when first settled but I do agree the geology has a unique beauty by itself that should be preserved in some places.
Indeed, what you said is certainly true: the best place for a tourist is, where he is alone and can assimilate the wonderful nature of Iceland!!!! I enjoyed this video!
Great video!!! Me, my Missus and my family watched your videos all last year to get a sense of Iceland before we went last August. Spent some time in Borgarnes to visit Skalla-Grímr’s tomb, (he’s an ancestor of my family’s). Loved Borgarnes, pretty cool town. Actually all of Iceland is pretty damn cool, can’t wait to go back and see more. Keep the videos coming please, they’re a lot of fun!!! Cheers from Manitoba, Canada!!!
Brings back nice memories of my first trip to Iceland in March 2019, as we used Borgarnes as a base for a 3 week exploration of the area. Thank you Gylfi for making these videos !
This is a fantastic showcase of part of your beautiful country, Gylfi. I'm looking forward to seeing your future projects. And, of course, I have not given up on my bucket list plan to get to Iceland from here in South Australia one day. I so much want to see many of these stunning landmarks with my own eyes. But until then, I'll keep appreciating seeing them through your drone's eyes. ☺️
Once again I strongly appreciate your fine report on a region apart from the main tourist areas. We drove through this area several times during our ten trips through Iceland, starting just 40 years ago and the pictures bring up so many beautiful memories. Some places are gone and some remain, and there are new facilities unthinkable in those days. Even though we once stopped our journeys because Iceland was getting too crowded to us I got a feeling, that now it is on a good way to combine bus-tourism with offers to the freelancer, looking for the calm, lonely place to enjoy just loneliness like we did so many times ago. And now, as an old man, incapable to see this places directly anymore, it’s even sweeter to see in your videos new perspectives thanks to the drone-technology. And so I say thank you and wish you personally and your country, which I once enjoyed so much, the very best!
Nice to see Borganes getting some love- it is much more than a "passthrough town"! The drone footage over Borgarfjörður is absolutely stunning. Thank you also for pointing out Mt Baula- I was really taken with this striking mountain when we drove route 1 to the north, but for some reason, at the time, could not identify it. Takk fyrir.
Good evening Gylfi. I hope you are keeping well. Another excellent video. I'm so looking forward to coming back to Iceland in just over 4 weeks time. Takk fyrir.
We love Borganes! Spent some time here after driving around Hvalfjordur, ,on the way to Snaefellsness. A great stop to get a coffee and donut, and grabbing supplies at the Bonus.
Stayed at the B59 Hotel in Borgarnes and visited the Settlement Center, which had lamb stew in the restaurant. I highly recommend visiting this museum and restaurant. It is very interesting and a beautiful location.
I came for the volcano videos, but I‘m staying for this amazing documentaries. All the things you don‘t know about being a tourist. Definitely need to save up to come to Iceland one day!
I staid this summer a few days in Akranes and have explored that area of this video a bit already. But after this video I would like to go again right now and visit what I missed! Iceland is really both an island which offers a lot to its visitors. Thank you Gylfi! Schöne Grüße zurück nach Island
My favourite time is Sept-Dec as we have more selection as for snowy or non snowy background and usually more stable weather then in January. More here :) th-cam.com/video/gYxyacI9dlc/w-d-xo.html
Gilfy, you are the best ambassador for Iceland. Can’t wait to return to see these “new” places.
Thank you very much and welcome back to Iceland :)
Superb video! You always have great content, the cinematography is really well paced. Thank you from California.
I'm flattered 😊 many thanks from Iceland 😊
What a beautiful region, at this rate I'll have to visit Iceland for months to see it all, I'll never be able to afford it! 😭
I hope the Icelandic people know how much of a national treasure you are, capturing and preserving all these beatiful views while promoting Iceland to the entire world.
So beautiful...... singlehandedly you do more for tourism than any tourist board .
Thanks :)
Thank you, Gylfi, for the glorious travelogue. I love your mix of maps and pointers; they make everything so clear.
Much appreciated 😊
Gylfi, I like the way you promote Iceland, without any kind of hype. Your calm and matter-of-fact manner is pleasing to me.
Thanks a ton :)
This was great getting to see other parts of your amazing country. Thank you Gylfi!
More to come!
I sure hope so. It is a lovely break from volcano activity....😎😄
Gilfy, these kind of videos are the best! I like how you pay attention to some small details and places that you won't stumble upon the internet. Looking forward to next town/area.
I appreciate your kind comment :)
This a great tour. Thanks. These areas are so much more appealing than the well known, crowded tourist trails.
Great you enjoyed the tour :)
Yes! Much more appealing than anything I've seen on the peninsula. This looks like the kind of place I could happily visit for a month or two to just chill out and go out exploring, maybe with a local guide if possible but not a package tour. I hate crowds, big hotels, tours, etc.
Thanks for the opportunity to see more of beautiful Iceland.
My pleasure 🤗

This feels like a 20 minute holiday to me... Great to be able to see all this by your camera!
Happy holiday 😍
What an absolutely awesome video. Loved it :-)
Thanks a ton :)
Fantastic, thank you!
You're very welcome!
Thanks Gylfi
Its great to know the "hidden gems" and I'm sort of glad the marketing hasn't been too successful, otherwise it would likely be spoilt.
Thank you Gilfy for being a great ambassador for your fantastic island.
Last year I've visited the Borgarnes area and saw a number of the highlights
you described. However, I did not see them all so I've got a good reason to visit
the area again. Greatings from the Netherlands!
Thanks a lot Gilfy for these amazing pictures and explanations.
Much appreciated 😍
What a beautiful area
😊 thanks

Our very own Tourist guide.. Many thanks. Incredible country
Glad you enjoyed it!
A very interesting video. Thanks, Gylfi. I loved the landscapes, and the geology - those formations are beautiful.
Thanks a ton Alex :) I have more of this coming soon :)
This landscape is just incredible and so diverse. The views from your drone are unmatched. Nobody provides better insight to Iceland. Wonderfull. Thank you.
Many thanks :)
Wonderful video! You have a storyteller's skill, plus the added bonus of being an excellent videographer. This is why I enjoy your videos so much. Thank you!
Much appreciated, still practicing 😍
Wow! That was spectacular ❤ Thank you for sharing your stunning country with us, Gylfi 😊

Gylfi you live in such a beautiful country.. Thank you for sharing it. You are indeed an excellent tour guide.
Thanks a ton :)
Just breathtaking

Lovely town and surrounding area. Thank you Gilfy
Glad you enjoyed it
Yep, I’ve been there a little town there. I asked you guys to take the tunnel. I dropped off a mobile crane over there in the old days for a client.😂
Alwys welcome :)
Amazing video of a beautiful area, with an excellent tour guide. Amazing that Borgarnes is only one hour from Reykjavik but so little known.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hraunfossar is one of my favourite waterfalls in Iceland. The water is always a stunning colour.
I love filming it and iv'e actually not got the dream-video yet, but I will some day :)
Wow, love seeing the amazing landscape, geology! Makes me want to visit. Thank you for the tour!!!
Welcome to Iceland :)
Some really lovely places which we were blessed to visit in 2007 and 2014. Thank you for your beautiful photography.
Many thanks

Welcome to Iceland :)
Another excellent video Gylfi thank you for showing us the many beautiful parts of Iceland which don’t involve lots of the explosive red stuff. It’s been a real education and eye opener. 👍💕

Gylif, you are a gift to the country of Iceland! Lovely video indeed.
Much appreciated ❤
Excellent video and information. Great that you can do this as well as volcanic activity. Thank you.
This it to try to stabilise the channel :) it has this volcanic mood :) a bit unstable
As much as I love your volcano updates... this was a VERY nice addition to your videos of your homeland!
Great to hear :)
I've really been enjoying your videos. I'm coming to Iceland in September. I tend not to like touristy places so I welcome your videos. Thank you.
Welcome to Iceland :)
Beautiful. Wish I had the money to visit.
I wish you every success and hope you can make it to us some day but admit that Iceland is too expensive, It's restricting my travels around my country so I have to work around it in any way I can.
@@JustIcelandic Thanks, but watching from another highly expensive country ;) New Zealand on the opposite side of the world.
Gylfi, what a very good studdied travel and video. Thank you for your commitment to present this beautiful countryside of Iceland.
👍😘 Stay save.
Many thanks!
It's such a beautiful country, Thank you for showing us. :)
My pleasure🤗
Wonderful wee tour of that corner of Iceland. Beautiful colours and scenery as always, but learning the history and some of the stories of the area is an added bonus 😍. Thank you Gylfi.
Always welcome :)
Gilfy, you do an amazing and unique job of sharing YOUR Iceland with the rest of the world. You clearly love your amazing country. I was just there for a week. Thanks for sharing :) The tourism has actually peaked for a while and we hope to see it grow in a more balanced way into the future :)
Oh I just love this! This was so very interesting. Thank you for making this!
Enjoy and welcome :)
Always amused by what people call a village in different places around the world, having grown up in a place too big to be classified as a hamlet but not big enough to be a village. Beautiful photography as always, much appreciation from Australia
Thanks for visiting :)
Great video! My family love sitting down to watch your latest updates from Iceland. Hi from Australia!
Greetings to Australia :)
Thank you so much for this; can't wait until we get back to Iceland again! As you know, you have an amazing and beautiful country.
Welcome back to Iceland :)
I lived in Iceland growing up, and have been back twice in recent years. The scenery can't be beat (please don't bury it under forests).
It could do with a bit more forest, given how much was clear cut when first settled but I do agree the geology has a unique beauty by itself that should be preserved in some places.
We visited that waterfall in February. It was amazing and there were very few other people. More people should see it.
Yes it's a different waterfall :)
Thanks... beautiful.
Welcome 😊
Brilliant footage and commentary as always, Gylfi. Thank you.
Many thanks!
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL TOUR THANK YOU 👍🙏>>>💚
👍 welcome
Indeed, what you said is certainly true: the best place for a tourist is, where he is alone and can assimilate the wonderful nature of Iceland!!!! I enjoyed this video!
Well said! thanks for watching :)
Thanks again Gylfi for the excellent content! :-)

Wonderful, Gylfi. Magnificent. Thank you.

Many thanks for watching and greetings to Manitoba from "gamla landið" and it's plenty to come :)
Brings back nice memories of my first trip to Iceland in March 2019, as we used Borgarnes as a base for a 3 week exploration of the area. Thank you Gylfi for making these videos !
We always stop at the Borgarnes Bakery as soon as you get over the bridge. Such good baked goods.
Thanks for sharing :)

Thanks for letting us know about all the great locations near Borgarnes. They certainly deserve more visits and visibility 😃
We agree 😃

🤩Wow😍Herzlichen Dank für die wunderbaren Aufnahmen und den Einblick in die Geschichte dieser Region! Alles Gute und liebe Grüße aus Wien 🤗
Very well done and thank you for sharing !

Good evening Gylfi. I hope you are keeping well. Another excellent video. I'm so looking forward to coming back to Iceland in just over 4 weeks time. Takk fyrir.
Thanks and welcome back to Iceland :)
We love Borganes! Spent some time here after driving around Hvalfjordur, ,on the way to Snaefellsness. A great stop to get a coffee and donut, and grabbing supplies at the Bonus.
Thanks for sharing :)
Great video (again) by you!
And congratulations on reaching 100k followers, very much deserved for your hard work!
Thanks a ton :)
Stayed at the B59 Hotel in Borgarnes and visited the Settlement Center, which had lamb stew in the restaurant. I highly recommend visiting this museum and restaurant. It is very interesting and a beautiful location.
Thanks for sharing!
burial mound just right there, amazing
Welcome :)
Congratulations on the new job, Gylfi. 😁
Thank you! 😊
At 11:29, there are some very colorful hills. What are they? Maybe you can do a video of that area some time,
Glad you noticed, I was there on my last battery last year, got only a short bit but this mountain deserves way more :)
I came for the volcano videos, but I‘m staying for this amazing documentaries. All the things you don‘t know about being a tourist. Definitely need to save up to come to Iceland one day!
Glad you like them :) it's harder to make this work here on the channel :)
Great video Gylfi. We spent a night in Borganes when we toured west Iceland, it's a lovely place and Eldborg is definitely worth a visit.
Thanks for sharing :)
I staid this summer a few days in Akranes and have explored that area of this video a bit already. But after this video I would like to go again right now and visit what I missed! Iceland is really both an island which offers a lot to its visitors. Thank you Gylfi! Schöne Grüße zurück nach Island

I LOVE that you use maps. I need to know where things are. Iceland is on my bucket list.

This video is fabulous! I'm really looking forward to visiting around Bourganes in late August. Thank you!
Welcome to west Iceland :)
