As a kid long Time ago, we used to discuss countries in Asia including Myanmar as Burma before. Burma before has a good reputation, a very beautiful country with rich in natural resources, history and culture.. But today as the name change itself, Burma is a victim of a corrupt government.

Then Pakistan claimed as a separate nation. Then some regions rebelled against Pakistan and became Bangladash. Nowaday Chittagonian hills are a part of Bangladash. Rakhine is a part of Myanmar. Then-British messed things up and divided ethinic groups. Myanmar is not to blame.
Pagan controlled Arakan as well as Dawei. Otherwise, those regions wouldn't have been Burmanized. The Mons under King Razadrait controlled the south of Arakan as well. Bayinnaung campaigns are all wrong. Lan Xang was added in 1565 and reconquered several times after every revolt. There were several years of united empire, not a flickr as in the video.

Which Rakhine the original Rakhine Kingdom or the modern Rakhine people's kingdom. Because the Arakan from before the 1200s was not populated by modern-day Rakhine people. Modern-day Rakhine people only came to Arakan after the 1200s from Pagan Kingdome. Rakhine people are a distant cousin of the Bamar people.

They were Indo-Europeans while you guys are Tibeto-Burmans. Rakhines are Bamars that became a bit different because of hundreds of years of separation. Like how people in Tanintharyi have a different dialect and culture from mainland Bamars.
for those who are unaware, "Bayinnaung" literally means "the King's brother". that's not his name, it's what courtiers called him before he legitimized himself after the death of the "rightful" king. so that's not even his proper title. calling him Bayinnaung is like calling the roman emperor "caligula" (little boots) to his face. he would have found it insulting.
"Bayin" means "King" and "naung" means "elder brother" so full meaning is "King`s elder brother". His full proper title is " Bayinnaung Kyaw Htin Anawyahtar" . And he is not insult by "Bayinnaung" title. Because he love his younger brother (rightful king who is not related by blood) so much.

All burmese royal family along the history called ordinary people (soldier, dancer, worker, etc....)as pyu and wrote as "ပု" in ancient litrature. ပု = pyu What's the meaning of pyu ? Pyu means people. Mordern day, we also use this word similary to ordinary burmese people as pyi thu (pyi+thu = pyu) So, pyu was ancient terminology and pyi thu is the modern terminology. Pyi thu use only for ordinary people not for governer. Governer is A Soe Ya in modern burmese language. Another thing! And we also know Bagan. In burmese ancient and even modern litrature, we write Bagan as"ပုဂံ" in burmese writing. ပု = pyu (native burmese) ဂံ = market city or village in pali (Burmese writing style) ပုဂံ (Bagan)= pyu market city
It's fascinating but they lack national spirit, sole culture and a sense of belonging and responsibility. That leads to problems today. The main reason is.. I think, they couldn't able to lay the complete foundation. Their royal families were also the problem , their history is full of betrayal, civil wars, new warlords to Lords, and finally I think they worship western things from matches to political system, that has become a problem in my opinion, while they couldn't transform well because of western sanction in economy and technology which leads to the fall of first of South East Asia to bottom during 1980, probably. I can't give accurate answer, because it involves world economy and politics relationship directly, after all Myanmar (Burma) did take part in unity with Soviet Union and China at that time, USA might have targeted it.

@OU SEN it was bcoz Khmer always backslabbed when burmese troop invaded. Khmer asked Champ back up but Siam and Champ were allied.

There used to be Arakan Kingdom which included Chittagonian hills and Rakhine Coastal region. After independence, Chittagon region became a part of British India. Then India gained sovereignity. Then Pakistan claimed as a separate nation. Then some regions rebelled against Pakistan and became Bangladash. Nowaday Chittagonian hills are a part of Bangladash. Rakhine is a part of Myanmar. Then-British messed things up and divided ethinic groups. Myanmar is not to blame.

Modern-day Rakhine people only came to Arakan after the 1200s from Pagan Kingdome. Rakhine people are a distant cousin of the Bamar people.

Vesali-lemo and the later on periods all belong to arakanese ppl. Like Bagan Empire is the successor state of Pyu city states , Rakhine also have the similar story with their cousin Bamar ppl.

They were Indo-Europeans while you guys are Tibeto-Burmans. Rakhines are Bamars that became a bit different because of hundreds of years of separation. Like how people in Tanintharyi have a different dialect and culture from mainland Bamars.

for those who are unaware, "Bayinnaung" literally means "the King's brother". that's not his name, it's what courtiers called him before he legitimized himself after the death of the "rightful" king. so that's not even his proper title.
calling him Bayinnaung is like calling the roman emperor "caligula" (little boots) to his face. he would have found it insulting.
"Bayin" means "King" and "naung" means "elder brother" so full meaning is "King`s elder brother". His full proper title is " Bayinnaung Kyaw Htin Anawyahtar" . And he is not insult by "Bayinnaung" title. Because he love his younger brother (rightful king who is not related by blood) so much.

Bayinnaung and rightful king were playmate & when grown up they fight side by side to conquer the wars. Bayinnaung married king's elder sister. After rightful king passed away, there were rebels and Bayinnaung was appointed as a king by late king's ministers. Initially Bayinnaung refused to be king but at the end he had to accept it.

All burmese royal family along the history called ordinary people (soldier, dancer, worker, etc....)as pyu and wrote as "ပု" in ancient litrature.
ပု = pyu
What's the meaning of pyu ?
Pyu means people.
Mordern day, we also use this word similary to ordinary burmese people as pyi thu (pyi+thu = pyu)
So, pyu was ancient terminology and pyi thu is the modern terminology.
Pyi thu use only for ordinary people not for governer.
Governer is A Soe Ya in modern burmese language.

And we also know Bagan.
In burmese ancient and even modern litrature, we write Bagan as"ပုဂံ" in burmese writing.
ပု = pyu (native burmese)
ဂံ = market city or village in pali (Burmese writing style)
ပုဂံ (Bagan)= pyu market city
It's fascinating but they lack national spirit, sole culture and a sense of belonging and responsibility. That leads to problems today. The main reason is.. I think, they couldn't able to lay the complete foundation. Their royal families were also the problem , their history is full of betrayal, civil wars, new warlords to Lords, and finally I think they worship western things from matches to political system, that has become a problem in my opinion, while they couldn't transform well because of western sanction in economy and technology which leads to the fall of first of South East Asia to bottom during 1980, probably. I can't give accurate answer, because it involves world economy and politics relationship directly, after all Myanmar (Burma) did take part in unity with Soviet Union and China at that time, USA might have targeted it.
