Nazareth's 'Hair of the Dog' album was the very first CD I owned. My Dad bought me my first CD player and he bought this CD for me at the same time. I grew up listening to a lot of the rock music that my Dad loved, so this album quickly became a favorite. My Dad is gone now (screw you covid), but this is one of the songs that always reminds me of him. Thanks ladies for a great reaction as always and for the memories!!
This one is definitely one of their classic songs, and it got tons of radio air play back in the day. I got to see Nazareth live back in 1981, and Donna would not have been thrown out of that concert, that's for sure... Get up and dance your heart out Girl!!! lol
Nazareth never got the credit they deserved for how great a band they were, and they have a ton of songs, "Turn On Your Receiver", "Razamanaz", "Broken Down Angel", so many more. Dan McCafferty, the singer here, retired and has since passed away, but they are still out there on the road rocking hard, with new singer Carl Sentance, as big-voiced, big-haired a rocker as there's ever been. Going to see them twice this summer in Canada.
@@markwilliams6394 Yep and there is no replacement for Manny nor Dan. Its like with REO Speedwagon, there was never the ability to replace or supplement Ritchrath. Sure seeing em' or hearing them bring back memories but the magic of the artists is not replaceable.
Nazareth / Deep Purple at RCMH in NYC. 1/23/76 Less than two weeks later. It was Queen two nights at THE Beacon Theater. First and last of four nights. Shows were cheap in the 70's.
In 1977-1980 you could hear this song pouring out of the Football locker room before every game. It would be played on a loop as the team I was part of mentally prepared for the game. At Home games it was played over thr PA just before kick off. We were known as the hardest hitting team in the league.
The Three Awesome Ladies are back! Cool! I told you that Lulu cracks me up. She said her name then said TH-cam. So, which name do I call her now? lol Kathy and Donna have some serious dance moves. You two were getting down. I like Kathy's facial expressions. She makes some cool ones. Very unique. I'll never forget this song because it was the second song that I learned how to play on guitar when I first started playing. My first song I learned how to play was "Horse with No Name" by America. Kathy, you looked a little confused when the lead singer started making those noises in that hose. That's called a "Talk Box". It was used in a lot of songs back then. It directs sound from the instrument into the musician's mouth by means of a plastic tube adjacent to a vocal microphone. The musician controls the modification of the instrument's sound by changing the shape of the mouth, "vocalizing" the instrument's output into a microphone. A few more songs that used it if you want to hear more would be: Sweet Emotion by Aerosmith, Rocky Mountain Way by Joe Walsh, Do You Feel Like I Do by Peter Frampton, Pigs "3 Different Ones" by Pink Floyd. You ladies always do a fantastic reaction job!
Great voice Great song. Back in the 70's when this song came out. The song was only played at night only and the word bitch was beeped out. Today it's played during the day and no bleeping
The whole album hair of the dog is fire.Of course. The title track hair of the dog beggars day, whiskey drinking woman changing time, my favorite song biggest hit was Love Hurts
You got to love it 70s rock Oh heck yeah iconic song no doubt about it memories for me , back in the high school days at the dairy Queen oh yeah good times Hair of the Dog was dang sure playing back then Great reaction 👍🏼 Keep up the good work 3🎯💯🌹
What a great video and great dancing ladies. When I saw them live, everyone was dancing. Donna do you remember the use of the voice box? That is the same equipment that Peter Frampton used on Frampton Comes Alive. Have a great day
Nazareth one of my favorite bands. Razamanaz, Hair of the Dog, Loud 'n' Poud all awesome albums. "Love Hurts" is likely their best known song. What make Nazareth different than most bands of the day is they did a whole lot of very unique music. There is essentially no band that they could be compared to. Hard rockin' to ballads like "Vigilante Man." Crazy stuff like "Too Bad To Sad" -> "One I had a friend we had a lot of laughs he was all a friend could need knowin' him was just a gas! One night I got home he gave me one surprise he was standing in a womans dress lashes on his eyes. My my too bad too sad. My my to good to last so I'm cuttin' out fast!"
When this song played at our local roller skating rink, all the long-haired dudes would stop whatever they were doing! And they would be gettin' down to this song!
Great song!! Glad you did it. In my younger days, in the 70s, I had this on vinyl, 8 track, cassette, and now cd. The whole album is great! Thanks!! 🤘🤘🎸🎸
The first time I heard this song was at a school dance during 5th or 6th grade. It was on the jukebox that was brought in for the dance. We must have played it 10 times before the chaperones realized what the lyrics were. They immediately threatened to pull the plug on the whole dance if anyone played it again.😂
Nazareth's "Hair of the Dog" album is a classic rock staple, they were one of the many great bands to come out of Scotland in the 70's. Their remake of the Joannie Mitchell song "This Flight Tonight' would be my suggestion for your next song from them. They sadly lost their lead singer last year after a brief illness. RIP.
Great song off my favorite Nazareth album! This song as well as "Love Hurts" get played quite a bit on local classic rock radio stations here in Northeast Ohio. "Miss Misery", "Changin' Times", and "Beggar's Day" are other great rock tracks from this album. I would love to see you all react to an Alice Cooper song from the late 80's called "Freedom" off his Raise Your Fist and Yell album. There is an official video on Vevo.
Though Nazareth never wrote the ballad “Love Hurts”, they were pioneers of the power ballad. “Sunshine”, “Hearts Grown Cold”, “Dream On”, “Moonlight Eyes”, “Shot Me Down”, and “I Don’t Want To Go On Without You” are all some of the first and best! Here’s a link to a live performance of “Dream On” from 2015. Dan sounds as good at 69 as he did when he recorded it in 1982. th-cam.com/video/hU9fb1F4swk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=z7kY18OgwyGq_KiT
Theyd have dragged me out too Donna😂. I was 16 when the Hair Of The Dog album came out. Live all bets were off man. Man they were fantastic live!👍👍🤘🤘. Now Im 65 years old and still get down on my deck loud and proud!!!
Gramma heard it before. She's getting on her Gram-jam! Grandma knows her kick a** rock! I'm not sure how the daughter ever missed it. It was everywhere! If you want more Nazareth, Try "Love hurts"!! The difference between the 2 songs is night and day!
I just wanna leave this comment for the UK folks watching. YES this IS where Girls Aloud nicked the chorus from. Gawd knows why a twee little girl group would do that, but they did.
The whole Hair of the Dog album is great, not a bad jam on it, the song " Miss Misery" (I've had a few teasers like that I remember well 😆) But yeah that song Rocks Out too ✌️❤️🎉
Next by them check out GO Down Fighting from Loud And Proud 1973. Dan McCaffrety does those leather lung vocals like no other. Woke Up This Morning is a rythm and blues stomper!
I love listening to bands from the 1970's "Glam Rock" era. My personal favourite was Slade and for me Noddy Holder was a brilliant lead vocalist. Two Slade tracks you'll probably enjoy are: "Mama We're All Crazy Now" and a great song for a party "Get Down and Get With It". Check them out, you'll love 'em!
This is one of the most enjoyable reactions I've seen in I don't know how long. The smiles on your faces just made my day! Thanks y'all for a great reaction to a great classic. This song was like guilty pleasure back then.
You should react to “This Flight Tonight” that they played at the same show. You’ll like it! As for the audience reaction, consider that this was an Austrian TV show in 1975 during the Cold War in a country right between the Iron Curtain and Western Europe, so I guess people weren’t used to the freedom and self-expression that we know today.
Dude, this is my favorite song from this band. This is one of my favorites songs from the 70s it’s up there with Slow Ride by Foghat. I’m actually learning bass and I want to do my own band if possible call us “The Death Jackets.” 💪🏻❤️🔥🎤🎸🎼
AWESOME!! I'm going on 62 and just found out today these guys are from SCOTLAND ⁉️ About 6 years ago found out (LIVE!) that BAD COMPANY is British!! Some bands do American music better than We Do!! Great Channel Ladies!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
actually the song title is a misprint that they kept. As per lyrics in the chorus ... Son of a B!tch ... the original title is Heir of the Dog. Typo Heir became Hair. And has nothing to do with the expression hair of the dog.
There is a lot of word play with the song. Heir of the dog is the son of a female dog. I’m not sure how they went from heir to hair, but that is my understanding of the song’s title. Nazareth Hair of the Dog album is solid. Enjoy The Journey - Cheers
Nazareth were an awesome Scottish hard rock band. Most of the band members are no longer with us 🙏r.i.p. my favorite song from hair of the dog album is miss misery. The heavyest song they ever wrote. You should review that one. Take care y'all
I saw Nazareth open for Deep Purple in 76 and they blew them off the stage. Great band live. One thing you should be aware of. When bands appeared on TV in the 60s and 70s they would lip-synch the recorded track. What you heard here is the same track that was played on the radio and the band mimicked playing. It was common back then. Had to do the technology at the time. They could broadcast prerecorded music a lot easier than live music. Bands hated doing it but TV appearances helped them sell records.
Yeah, one thing that's a dead giveaway that it's lip-synced is when you hear instruments in the mix that no one on stage is playing. 🙂 Like when the talkbox comes back in at the end -- who's using it? Another dead giveaway is when the song fades out at the end even though the band is still pretending to play it.
A great band, with one of the best singers, ever. Dad has excellent taste.
This is one of those classic, iconic guitar riffs that's just instantly recognizable!!
Nazareth's 'Hair of the Dog' album was the very first CD I owned. My Dad bought me my first CD player and he bought this CD for me at the same time. I was lucky to see them a couple of times. Fantastic band ,they will rock you big time.
You can sure tell yhat Donna used to shake it down to this tune back in the day ! i was dancin with ya!
This one is definitely one of their classic songs, and it got tons of radio air play back in the day. I got to see Nazareth live back in 1981, and Donna would not have been thrown out of that concert, that's for sure... Get up and dance your heart out Girl!!! lol
A terrific Scottish rock band with Dan McCaffety on vocals. Love your reaction Ladies.
Nazareth is Awesome !!
This Whole Album is Awesome !!
Need ALOT more Nazareth !!
Dan McCafferty was such a great and unique singer, R.I.P. !
Should be mentioned in same circles as Plant, Daltrey, RJD
Thank you for the video and reaction. Quality 70's rock, great musicianship, sounds and looks, cow bells and talk box, it had it all.
Back in the day this was our "HOMECOMING" song in high-school football....perfect in the early 80's... BRING IT !!!!
