    From the looks of it, I think this is going to be EA’s first well rounded pack. Don’t know all the specifics but the fact they got people who love the game to influence and got to *build* for the pack shows a lot. This is good!

    As someone whos traveled to Japan many times i can say you did well with the Onsen, the only thing I'd change is that you didnt do a split level in the entrance, When entering an onsen you'll first be at the front desk but before fully entering you will always switch from your outdoor shoes to a pair of slippers . Seeing a split level in an entrance way is how to tell if you need to remove your shoes or not in Japanese Buildings.

      I'm confused why they chose all white people for these builds. Of course, they can build based on another culture, but it's obvious they aren't super familiar with the style, and it makes me wonder why the sims team didn't reach out to Japanese simmers, or at least simmers from different countries of Japanese culture

      @@AmericanAussie1 I think they simply wanted people with big names to say hey look we had all of these creators that you all know and love working with us. I think regardless, the simmers did a really good job and that should not go unappreciated. Also I think they wanted to reach out to Game Changers first since obviously they know they won’t leak anything (at least not on purpose) and they have contracts with them.

    I love how much of the Japanese culture was included in this pack and I hope in future packs, the sims add other cultures and destinations, which would add diversity to the game. They could start by expanding the whole heritage month aspect that they added and could add cultures that include South Asian and European cultures

    • @melz6625
      @melz6625 3 ปีที่แล้ว +69

      I’m just getting an uneasy vibe how 4 non Asian simmers were tasked to create the entire architectural representation of this culture. They should have included someone like Freezerbunny, yes less reach but at least one Asian English speaking build simmer should have been mandatory. But it goes to show that we have a long way to go with true diversity in the workplace. I’m sure the Sims team is also majority white otherwise they would have seen this issue ahead of time. This isn’t personal against the simmers choses of course. I don’t fault them for accepting and see they tried hard. But as a Japanese knowing someone build an Onsen, so important to my culture, who has never even heard of it before wouldn’t sit right with me at all. Seems Asian people are getting passed over just like PoC were with skintones for a long time

    Hi Deli! I have to be honest for a second: as an Asian American simmer who is very fond of Japanese culture, traditional and modern, I was a little concerned when I realized they had asked four non-Asian simmers to help build for this pack. BUT especially after watching this video I am actually very grateful they chose four of the BEST sims builders in the community, and I know it must have been challenging for you all who didn’t have preexisting knowledge of Japanese architecture, along with the restrictions. The lots look lovely and I am very happy EA chose you to help showcase! I’m looking forward to owning the pack. You must be so proud to be such a big part of the game after playing it for so long, and I’m so happy for you. :)

      They aren't really the best. James Turner and Lilsimsie mostly only can build in their styles of white/black pseudo modern blocks and blue suburbans. No thank you, give me XFreezerBunnyX and Mirarae instead.

    • @tikusblue
      @tikusblue 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Best builders ??? No way. Simlicy is the only one of the bunch who is known for her builds. The rest are more popular for gameplay. What about freezer bunny, harriet or devon bumpkin? They actually make incredible builds and already have experience w/ japanese builds as well because they have a passion for architecture

    • @siliconvalleygirl6595
      @siliconvalleygirl6595 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@tikusblue 😅 I apologize if i triggered anyone! but for your sake, i did intentionally say "four of the best," not "the four best," implying that i know that the community has many, many amazing builders, and i acknowledge that EA probably chose simmers who they had a longer working professional relationship with. i adore Harrie and FreezerBunny and wish with all my heart they get the same opportunities in the future. But if I were in charge, I would also personally choose simmers who were known equally for gameplay and building, simply for equal representation and marketing. Harrie and FreezerBunny (idk about devon?) have repeatedly emphasized they don't do a lot of gameplay. (that's why it also confused me when Simlicy was chosen, but I don't know her as well.) it's probably why Gucci went to partner with Harrie, since Gucci wanted to focus on their off the grid items, and Harrie and Grim were the best simmers to showcase that, given their reach and specialization. :) hope that helps you understand what i said!

    • @siliconvalleygirl6595
      @siliconvalleygirl6595 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@mjm3091 You're entitled to your own opinion. ^_^ Also I agree, they aren't the best builders, because I said they were "four of the best," meaning they are some of many incredible builders within the community. I also adore FreezerBunny and had wished builders like him had a chance to represent Asian architecture, but you can see my reply to r m as to why i believe they chose other simmers instead. hope that helps! if anything, this should only be seen as encouraging because it sets a positive precedent for all future TS4 packs.

    • @tikusblue
      @tikusblue 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@siliconvalleygirl6595 Oh sorry if I seemed offended, I really wasn't. I just don't agree at all that they're some of the best builders that's all! You're right too that maybe they wanted simmers who have gameplay experience. But honestly, I think they just hired simmers who had big audiences, and knew how to build. And disregarded anyone with a smaller audience which is a bit of a shame. Especially considering freezer bunny is such a talented builder, and has done multiple japanese style builds and is familiar with the culture.

I think Deli did a great job with the modern/Japanese fusion, it was a very smart choice, but I understand why nobody wanted to build the onsen. Of all the lots on the map, that one had to be the most accurate to the Japanese culture. I worried it wouldn't look right. Deli, I am very happy with this. Considering everything you were asked to do, this is really close to the real deal - especially the onsen. Again it’s a game so it doesn’t have to be 100 % alike. The designs are beautiful, and you remembered to put the toilet separately in the main bathroom of the vacation lot (I’m pretty sure I wrote a comment on that to a completely unrelated video, not sure if you knew because of that - either way I’d like to think I had something to do with it 😉). The only thing I would add, is probably a shoe rack/shoe closet at each entrance, but maybe you weren’t even aware that taking shoes off was gonna be part of this pack when you build these lots?
    But all in all you did so well 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🥒🥒🥒

      Fyi, the shrines are still there. They simply removed the animation for bowing in front of the shrine.

    • @sketchur
      @sketchur 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same here, I wish they added a toggle in the settings! Which is a really minor thing to do for the game, but it sounds like it would be a meaningful option to include all players.

    • @lyn3325
      @lyn3325 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of players in Japan dropped EA because of the change they did do. If they offered a toggle it would have been more accurate and appropriate and could have solved some of the problems for the Korean players. As it is now, the Sim looks at the shrine as if they are unsure what it is, as if it was a weird piece of art. Thus, the interaction is offensive. At the very least, if Sims had their arms down it would be normal and appropriate.

    "No one wanted to do it" "I didn't know what an onsen was" "I needed a lot of help with the style"
    Why did the sims team pick these simmers, obviously of no Japanese background or knowledge of the culture, to do these traditional builds? Just because they are very influential in the community? Why not pick lesser-known simmers who are from Japan/are Japanese? They would get some great exposure, and teach the community about their culture in a cool way.
    It makes me feel as if the sims let simmers (game changers) create these builds bc they knew a lot of the community would feel more favourably toward this pack if their fave million-subscriber influencer built the houses and lots. :/
    Edit: I mean NO ill will toward Deli or the other builders, I think they are great builders and this was a fantastic opportunity they have dreamed of for awhile. i just couldn't help but think it would have been nice if the builds came from people who knew the culture well, and builders who could have discussed backstory or connections and experiences

    • @eurydiceapologist
      @eurydiceapologist 3 ปีที่แล้ว +58

      I was waiting for this take. I love SimLicy, Simsie, and Deli, but the Sims team should have prioritised working with the many talented simmers more familiar with Japanese culture. We also need to ask why it is that the most popular and famous sim creators are all white. Is it an issue of biases in consumption? Is it an issue of access- both to the game and it's expansions due to cost and to video creation itself?

    • @AsnCanuck
      @AsnCanuck 3 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      Agree with you that it would have been great to involve Japanese creators but I also understand from EA's POV. This is the first pack where they are involving Game Changers. Imagine if they picked little known creators, people would be pissed off the the bigger creators that have been a voice in the community for a long time were passed over.
      Also while yes, they are bigger creators, I think the reason why they have a large audience is that their voices resonate with the Sim community.
      Hopefully in the future with more packs, they will be able to involve more and more creators to make packs better for everyone.

    • @melz6625
      @melz6625 3 ปีที่แล้ว +42

      yup. got the same vibe. Obviously no one is faulting the simmers for taking this opportunity but they should really have included Asian simmers. And if it was necessary that they were English speaking from the top of my head I’d name Freezerbunny who did amazing Asian builds before there were any items to do it easily. He does have less reach but having 4 non Asian let alone non Japanese simmers do the entirety of the architectural representation is not really how diversity in the workplace should be in 2020

    • @AmericanAussie1
      @AmericanAussie1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@eurydiceapologist Same I appreciate them, I think they are amazing builders and this was a great opportunity for them, I mean no ill will. Unfortunately the sims team seems to be relying very heavily on game changers to fix their reputation (and sales). (When i think this pack would likely not need the extra boost, the community was favourable toward mountains and snow activities and a Japanese-inspired world).
      I think there is a similar bias in almost all game communities on youtube and twitch. Look at Minecraft YT, almost all of the million+ sub channels are white men. I have never seen a woman or man of colour have 10k+ views on twitch in the minecraft category. The majority of the viewers there are white girls. In the sims community, I feel there is more diversity in viewership, but likely skewed toward western girls.
      It's not a bad thing to watch a creator because you find them attractive or are able to relate to them, but the viewership-skew does give these people a major advantage in the likelihood of becoming popular.
      I think cost, being able to afford all the packs and access to a good mic and computer definitely plays a factor as well. Think about how many people gain followers and views from doing giveaways out of their own pocket.

    • @AmericanAussie1
      @AmericanAussie1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@AsnCanuck That is true, I didn't consider the fact that it might seem unfair to the simmers who have already put in so much time with EA and the packs. I think maybe it would have been better and seemingly fair if they had put out a contest or 'talent search' to recruit builders, though it might have spoiled the theme?
      I really liked the way they did it in Sparkd where the winning team got to be involved in the pack in terms of build and family. It was cool to see how winning a contest for being great at building resulted in getting to do a pre-build.

    So super happy at your involvement with this pack, but equally as disappointed by the handling of another culture. I'm surprised that you worked on the onsen for months but were so uncomfortable speaking about the tradition and cultural implications of public bathing in Japan. Most notably, the two doors with blue and red noren (the cloth dividers) typically identify the gender of the dressing area. In your build, both doors open to the same dressing area. Even the inclusion of the speaker just beside the hot spring is kind of counterintuitive to the intent of visiting: the observation and appreciation of nature.
    It's clear that the Sims team did a decent amount of research to develop this pack and I just don't understand why they wouldn't share that with you so you could better represent something so important to Japanese culture. There are an infinite number of resources you could have looked into while working on this build or even before posting this video. If this were for your own gameplay, I wouldn't really expect you to fully understand all the objects included in the pack. However, this build will now be shipped with every copy of the game... and that's kind of a bummer.
