- There's a few things here and there that I want to change in my builds, so lets get to it!

I honestly didn't mind the way the starter home looked over the dirt, but I know that it must have been frustrating because you built it specifically to fit a different environment. I think the bigger problem is as you said, the fact that that lot will always just be a weird dirt patch, which doesn't exactly fit the lush surroundings.
I agree! The modern brown house with brown dirt just doesn’t fit in
I think it would have been better if it was gravel or pebbles instead of dirt. Both of those can tie into grass well.
EA: gets pro Sims players to build their lots so they're actually good for once
Also EA: changes things in the builds so the pro Sims players need to fix them anyway 😂

I'm pretty sure stuff like that bamboo thing in front of the window had more to do with moveobjects.on than with EA /purposefully/ wanting to "ruin" the builds. Besides, it's pretty clear to me that even though the houses are A LOT better than EA's, James, Deli, Kayla etc build on a daily to weekly basis in the Sims and EVEN them let things slip, like the terrain paint and the window positioning. While this is in no way a lack of doors/trashcans or staircase that goes nowhere type of thing, I think it goes to show that we are often a little... Too critical? Of the Sims' team's builds. The ones they build like... Every couple of months for game and expansion packs.
I'm not saying their builds aren't bad, but if JAMES TURNER, formerly known as The Sim Supply, can forget to fix terrain paint then maybe the people working on the pack can be excused for not centering ceiling lights with the dinner table.
@@myriadth9823 tbh I totally agree. I wasn't intending to crap on them completely. Hey, without EA and the creators we wouldn't even HAVE the game, and I know a lot of hard work and effort goes into their job. I was mainly posting this cos I assumed other people probably found it as funny as I did that, even though they decided to bring in pro builders, quite possibly to make people happier with them after previous game packs, they still managed to overlook certain issues they created with the builds. And yeah, James did admit that he didn't have enough time, and that he may have overlooked stuff too, and honestly thats fine, we're human, it happens. They maybe shouldn't have been as lenient about them using move objects, but tbh I personally don't know how much difference it would've made.
Whatever the situation, this pack looks awesome and is hopefully one of the better ones, and I'm excited to see what James' gameplay is gonna be like 😊

@@myriadth9823 absolutely. We also need to keep in mind that the sims team who usually build the houses are developers with a million other things to do to ship the game within a specific timeframe. They couldn’t spend the same amount of time on builds as the Simtubers
as an Asian myself, I could say that some of the Asian houses are like that, grassless (prefer dirt over grass). they like to keep it that way (clean).
The sims team did some research.

@@badbitch8992 they probably wouldn’t make 2 asian worlds, they would just go back to making boring american worlds, or hopefully a european, even though it would be cool
@@devilhuman4275 I don't know. I have a feeling in my bones that we may get an India inspired world and India is part of Asia. And more European worlds isn't a bad thing. Also, TBF, San My was designed as a fusion of San Francisco, Tokyo, and Sydney with a hint of New York. A lot of the worlds aren't location specific but inspired by lots of areas. The base game desert world is the ONLY site specific world as it has iconic Phoenix landmarks.

There's some modern japanese design styles that are all about blending into the surrounds so it may have been a conscious decision from the sims team. I like the house either way!

the fact that u cant change the ground cuz theres a dirt patch around it is just weird to me. i thought this game was supposed to be a sandbox!

Interesting that you need a computer to get the rock climbing and skiing gear. It would have been nice to have a kiosk for it like in Outdoor Retreat and Discover University.
Didn't they show a vending machine with the equipment next to the ski slope, in the livestream? But maybe not for climbing stuff, I'm not sure.

I just watched a video that said if you don't buy it before you go to the slopes it automatically makes you "rent" gear. But you get a negative moodlet because rental gear is uncomfortable.
There is one sort of. You can "rent" some crappy gear by just going to ski and getting it automatically, or you can buy some from the vending machine (instead of kiosk) next to the gondola station.
They have kiosks that look like the food/drink vending machines to get all the gear you need. It's over by the ski lift area. I didn't realize you could also get it via computer until people started saying it in videos.

i think that the beige color of the house camuflaging into the dirt made it reaally unique and cool to me

The lounge has no woohoo spot. And you know James is gonna visit, come up with some new plot twist with someone getting pregnant, then look for a spot and realize there is none.
Should low key be a requirement for a lounge to have a woohoo space
No idea what he could use that would work though....
Snowy Escape has a woohoo bush, it's actually really nice and fits in with the surroundings unlike past woohoo bushes
The two-square closet from get together has a couple of colors that might blend in well with that build.

The beige starter house is one of my favorites starter houses ever. So sober, peaceful, modern and monochrome. I thought it was intentional to match the surroundings since it's so bold yet so pretty.
Think when it comes out, could change the lounge into a Karaoke Bar. This world really needs one
in his building video I thought he was gonna make it into one, then I realized karaoke is part of another pack
Yeah whats weird is they didn’t have a karaoke station in this considering the new job says something about it
I'm just thinking of the Yakuza Series when I'm seeing this pack because it's Japanese. Think about Singing Baka Mitai, Judgement and stuff. Maybe there's a mod for that and it would sound just fine.
There should be another basegame wedding arch, actually! And in my opinion it looks a bit more Japanese. And more pretty in general.
For the computer in the rental lot, you could have placed a laptop at the dining table, as though whoever is renting it bought the laptop with them. Heck, you could even have a sim bring the laptop, in their inventory, when they rent the lot.
I don't think he did that, because.. 1) There is no laptop available in base game right from the get-go and 2) It would be more convenient for the gamer for a computer to be already in the house, in stead of going there there and seeing there is none.

I actually really like the sand color of the starter house, it looks like the house is hide and very zen.
And it is an actual Japanese architecture style, to blend with the environment. So even if it wasn’t on purpose, it fits with the pack aesthetic.
I love that in James’s builds there are toilets and are not forgotten about. Thank you James.

Still looks better in light beige. You can’t see the unique features when it’s dark.
You can buy gear at a vending machine at the ski station. They showed it during the livestream
you could go back to these lots and add a lowered platform on the doors(so Sims respectfully took off their shoes in the residential/rental lots) if you haven't (and also adding the sign for it)
I'm so glad you made that starter darker. It looks so much better like that and fits into the world better. Still love your builds though.
When you were looking for a spot to place the computer in the Rental House, I noticed a small square of space that was going unused. At 5:51 you can see that there is an empty, closed off square under the stairs. This is actually a decent place for a computer, but I'm not sure if you'd want it that close to the bathroom... In my builds I will often place a computer on a one tile Dining Table and place it in a corner, or slightly odd little space. If you were to open that little square, you could easily do this for the computer and you shouldn't be blocking the entrance to the Dining Room from that hallway.
I love all your builds and when I saw this one I thought it was great but I did think it might perhaps look better darker to stand out more and have more contrast and I completely see now that it was because of the dirt colour on the ground. It looks so much better now you have changed it. Its a shame a EA didn't let you know they were gonna make the ground like that before you finalised the build. Anyway you did a great job and it looks even better now than before!
H i JAMES!, your first house looked great but once you made the change I totally agreed. Do you know why they decided to put sand/dirt there after the build was finished?
Not sure why they made the change so late, but I did some research and it seems that these sandy patches are popular in Japan instead of a grassy yard since zen gardens are a big trend.

I’m glad you changed the starter home. The light roof and light walls stuck out like a sore thumb!. I was planning to change it anyway when I eventually get my game.
Overall, you and the other simmers did a great job with the builds.
The light roof and walls definitely didn't stick out, since they were so perfectly blending in :P

you can outline the starter home lot in some sort of tile and make it look like a walkway, or get debug fences and outline the lot and then color in the grass after that

-Living Room-
For the living room to the dining room entry, I would put two sets of double doors where the desk is and then delete the chest. That'll really open up the space and make it feel a bit airier. Also maybe add a console table(or desk) behind the couch?
-Master Suite-
In the bedroom, the opposite windows of the ones you fixed are now higher than the trim. I would bring them down to uniformly match the rest of the house.
If only the sims team had just been like "Hey btw, we're going to put a dirt patch that will clash with your current color scheme."
The fact that James has Dr. Gluon's merch is too cute for me to handle

I'm Asian and I could tell you that a lot of Asian people prefer dirt over grass. Even cement over grass.

(this is kinda long, sorry)
I know you spent a lot of time perfecting this build only for it to be placed on terrain that did not match your expectations, so I don't want to come across as overly critical of the result. That said, I think the lighter trims along the foundation, roof, windows, and wall accents could have been kept after darkening the rest of the build. Even the stairs looked pretty good lighter, it contrasted well and looked like an extension of the earth coming to meet the house rather than the house plopped on some dirt. In the future, it would be cool to see you adding some interesting design features purely through your color choices. I've been getting into Sydney Macoretta recently and she has given me lots of inspiration to experiment with color pallets. I know you have a history of shying away from color, which you are trying to grow out of now. I also understand that in the context of these builds, the theme is more minimal and natural, so a bold color palette wouldn't be appropriate. Even still, there are simple ways to add some interest to your architecture by leaving some bits lighter to pop on the dark background. For future builds, I encourage you to take some risks and keep at it until you are satisfied! Try something different, sit with it, and see if you like it! Don't be afraid to do something absurd because you think it would look horrendous, you'll be shielding yourself from something potentially awesome! Don't take any of this the wrong way, I have been watching you for a long time and keep coming back because you are an amazing builder with so much potential with your color pallets if you let yourself loose~
I'm really glad you had a chance to participate so much in the lots of this pack. This house is so beautiful for a starter home, and it's an EA lot that I might actually keep!!! About time they get a pro Sims builder to make lots :)
it's June 2022 now and I'm just so happy that James got another chance to build lots in the upcoming werewolf pack, just hoping the pack would do them justice this time🤞🏻😁

Actually I love it so much that the house kinda blends in the dirt. The whole sandy and nude color is just so pretty!

i always thought it looked out of place and weird and i was like "i don't understand what it is but it doesn't work" and it 100% was the dirt matching the house. that looks so much better

I *LOVE* that I don't feel the urge to bulldoze the entire world! Like you said, there might be a few little tweaks like the windows or some terrain paint or changing colors of wallpapers... but otherwise, I think all the builds you four did are AMAZING. I think the lounge will make an awesome wedding venue! It would be nice to add some stuff from other packs cuz what's a wedding without a buffet and wedding cake? But man, the pretty pictures a photog sim could get at that locale is awesome.

They moved that screen because it's supposed to be used as a changing screen... so a sim would fit behind it to change clothes
Sure, but still doesn't explain why they put it so far from the window? I know they arent changing between the screen and the window, unless they are trying to give some people a show

Lawns aren't that common here in East Asia at private homes... Even schools have gravel/sand in their playgrounds.
The first house looks like it belongs in Iceland after you added the grass roof!

The only thing i noticed in Gluon's LP is that the Sims constantly glitch-walk thru door the when entering.
Perhaps turn it around so it opens to the outside.

I think that dirt patch lot serves better as maybe like a park or something where kids can play and the house would look better on that other empty lot with grass instead. I could see myself moving it in my game whenever I play lol.

What I want for future updates.
- Being able to place walls in half tiles.
- Being able to change ceiling tiles.
- Home Elvators or spiral staircases which both will have a separate category in the stairs section
- Simple 1x1, 1x2, 1x3 arches for medium and tall wall heights
- Modular infinite windows.

I love the first house so much
I love how james built this really nice, light wood starter home that contrasted well with the green world around it, but EA still had to muck it up at the last second just so that they can maintain the boring EA touch to all of the in-game lots.
I actually really like the house being beige. I think it makes a nice contrast. Your builds are awesome anyway
im impressed you saw the problem and making it darker looked 10 times better to contrast cuz I wont lie i was a bit ehhhh when I first saw it.

Would be cool if there was kareoke in the bar. That seems very Japanese to me unless 'Lost in Translation' has led me astray. Maybe more bamboo gardening and snack machines. However great builds and it hilarious that James is doing a makeover of his builds.
I like your fixes but I would make some changes to my game. First the house with grass on top I would leave the window trim light brown. The house you fixed the grass I wouldn't fix but instead place flowers or bushes. Great video James.

I always turn the Lounge into a Karaoke Bar. It's a great build, so I try to change as little as possible, but it makes sense to have a Karaoke bar and you already have a stage in there!
James we know you are a perfectionist and that's what we love about your builds but don't worry we get it. We are so proud of your lots for this new pack. You don't need to be so harsh on yourself, however thanks for fixing them and eventually giving us the option to download them from the gallery!
And here's me thinking the beige to blend into the dirt was a deliberate decision. . .I like the new, higher contrast version, though! And heh, yes, I knew you'd want to "officially" fix those windows. XD Oh deary deary dear. . .anyway, looking forward to your builds in-game, and probably replacing them with these slightly-tweaked versions later. XD

even with the small mistakes the build are 100% better than what ea has been putting out. also i like the way the modern house blends in. it seams more fitting
For that first house it literally looks like they changed to the dirt to match your house, making it look like some crappy desert shack lol..

Yeah grass would have been nicer underneath the starter home, but I'm actually glad you didn't get to change the look of the house, I like the light colour of it and it doesn't bother me too much with the sand either. The world has so many dark builds, the few lighter ones are nice to have.
And I know we give EA a lot of shade, but I actually like that they turned the outside seating area of the rental 90°. In the build video the outside fireplace "blocked" the view to the bunny slope, but now it's to the side, I like that better, it's more realistic.

Since you can’t have grass.. could’ve made a rock garden with the raked sand ;) makes the ground look like it has a reason and also uses some of the new items and such :)

First thing I'm going to do is add a Peaked roof. This flat style is for desserts, no rain and all heat. Is why Swiss developed A frames with tall peaked roof to shed heavy snowfall.
I love the modern starter home, inside and out. I won't be changing a thing. The only modern starter in the game that's tastefully decorated. No more Daisy's hovel and the likes for my sims!! Dark and light swatches on the home both look great, I think I prefer the lighter sandy coloured swatches on the home, so I probably won't be changing the exterior. Thanks for the build
For the second lot, I would leave the furniture the same and buy a laptop to put on the dining table. That way you don't need a desk and when they need to eat they can just drag it somewhere else.

How does seasons affect this pack? I know You dont need seasons for the snow, but if you have seasons what happens? does it snow where there isnt originally snow?
Somewhere I read that the snowy part will always be snowy because of how "high" the place is, but the other neighborhoods will have all the seasons
I imagine for this pack the temperature will stay on the lower side throughout the year and in the winter have lots and lots of snow.
