I predicted this a year ago. They could charge $150 and people would still buy it. Take 2 is not actually limited by price but by the less than optimal market penetration of next gen consoles. $100 for a game you'll likely be playing for 13 years is not a big investment
GTA+ members would say "it's only a few dollars you broke?" Well, I don't hear them talking about it now. Either way the GTA online community will buy GTA 6 even if it costs them $100. R* might as well throw in early access for a week for an extra $50 to streamers.
The games industry like any other industry wants to get every single cent from the consumer that they can. The industry knows that GTA 6 will be a special once in a generation type of game and will most likely be able to get away with pricing GTA 6 at $100 since there are many a fanboy willing to pay that price. But the gaming industry is hoping that GTA 6 will make the $100 price point the norm for all game releases. Can you imagine if games like Madden, FIFA or any Ubisoft game starting at $100 for the base game day one??? I do not believe even GTA 6 is really worth it. No actual video game should be worth $100.

A 70 dollar game is around 315 reais. The average salary in Brazil is around 1.400 thousand dollars. Only bills already eat half of the salary. If this keeps up people will just pirate games.
The gaming industry is more popular and profitable today than it's ever been, yet it's still not enough because some good for nothing suits NEED to see number go up and consumers have already been milked dry with microtransactions, battlepasses, and other live-service slop.

@angeldiaz7607 well one it was a joke, and two I don't want it to be 100 dollars but we don't really have control of that because gaming companies will do as they please so if they make GTA 6 $100 that's probably going to be the only game I ever play, I'm not buying anything else if they raise the prices. Plus I've been waiting for 10 years for GTA 6 I'd probably drop 200 just to make sure I got the best stuff.

I agree with you, Ghillie. Many of today's games are not worth the $70 they cost. You also underline a point that these "economic" experts always forget: People's wages have never been "adjusted" for inflation. Maybe if they stop losing money for failures like "Concord" they will have more budget to dedicate to valid projects. To just name another example: "Dead Space 2" was considered by EA a failure because the company spent a ton of money on marketing, expecting that title to sell the same as a new COD or Battlefield. If they just had a reality check in time, they could have realized that was impossible and would not have wasted that money.
To make the game that expensive they have to makesure they dont butcher it like they did gta 5. With slow releases of GTA youd like to hope theres at least no godmode in the multiplayer like whats been running rampant for 10+ years of GTA V.
The scary part about drastic changes like GTA6 potentially costing 100 dollars plus tax and CoD basically being a paid mobile game at this point, is the complacency. People literally have graduated college, gotten married, had children, and bought a house before this game dropped. If they don't like it, people will still buy it and publishers will see this as okay to do. The whole term voting with your wallet means less when more people buy regardless and cry later.
As a console gamer, I have officially strayed away from console gaming in favor of VR gaming. And let me tell you why. 1: Some of the best games on VR cost AT MOST $40. You’ll never see one that cost over $50-$60. 2: Unlike PlayStation and Xbox, you do not need a subscription to play online games on VR. Just like the good old PS3 days. 3: There are COUNTLESS workout apps/games in VR that get you physically active. 4: There’s nothing better than getting lost in the immersion of a VR game.

I'm sad to see the mark 2 weapons in gta 5 online can't even get new camos , they show no love to them.
I think Microsoft saw this coming years ago. That's why they heavily push Game Pass as the cheaper alternative to play the latest game releases to attract millions of subscribers.
Why should I spend £600 on a console just to spend double that on a decent collection of games of which, aren’t on disks anymore and I technically don’t own? Not to mention the fact that I’ll end up spending even more money on DLCs.
If it is going to cost $100 , this better be the be a masterpiece, and FAR exceeds expectations with LOTS too do in the game cuz if it does do that, I can imagine the amount of backlash it will receive 💀

Considering I usually don't buy a game unless it's on a discount because of a sale (Steam Summer Sale for example), I laugh at the idea that people would pay full price when you just have to wait a couple months after the release for the first sale. The downside is, GTA6 will be taking multiple years for the PC version. Sadly
Crazy thing is it’s already happened with titles currently releasing at a base, come GTA6 it’ll be ‘normalized’ by then. Looking outside the box is becoming very desirable.
If games start costing this much. People will either not buy it or less games will be brought. Simple as that Damn I commented this before actually watching the video. And ghillie hit it right on the head. That’s exactly what will happen.

We don’t even know how much worse they’re gonna monetize this game aside from just GTA Plus 5. NOBODYS PLAYED IT YET. How can people be excited for something? They’ve only seen a few minutes of and nobody has been able to review yet? It makes no sense. It’s like peoples brains have been rotted by modern gaming to where they’re ready to pay for something without even trying it for themselves or at least waiting for somebody else’s review like come on 💀💀💀
Ahh yes not the quality or the physics/mechanics or the overall a properly functioning game at this point , but the price is what the devs are focusing on right right 🤡💀.
If that happens. Its not going to change their developing habits. Ubisoft will chop a game to pieces sell it for $100 then sell the rest of it back in dlc upping the game cost to $200. Other games would still not even be complete on day 1 and ingame transactions out the ass.
Rockstar has still not fix half the planes with bomb bays for example the cabinet cuben800 Has the option to have bombays but it's d.deactivated, ever since they released? That's the winter DLC
If there are people who buy the same game three times, then why not increase the price, right? Yes, I am one of those critics who blames the players themselves for the shit that the market has become, because no matter how bad it is, there are still people who buy it.
I wouldn't pay more than $40 for any game, and I don't think I ever have. Then again, I'm never desperate to play anything; I am happy to wait until the sales.
Curious what the cost to revenue chart looks like for GTA 5 over the life of the game. Not sure if the plan is to have 6 run as long as 5 has but I’m sure they’ve made a decent profit off it. $100 feels more like greed than adjusting for inflation.
If they do this people are just going to wait till prices go down. MAYBE people will indeed pay 100 dollars for gta6/gta6 online, but not every game is like gta6. Most games that come out these day are half finished or have half their content removed so they could sell it as dlc. I'm not paying a 100 dollars for that.
While I think GTA 6 would be the only game that could be worth $100, there's no way it will actually cost $100. Even $80 is kinda on the edge but I think it will be the normal $70 price tag with the best version that has tons of additional bonuses costing $100. Would I still buy that most expensive version? Maybe but I may change my mind over the next few months.

The game is so hyped that they know that people are willing to pay a higher price for it. The problem is how far can and will they push it. If people are willing to spend $100 they wont mind spending $120 for it or maybe even more.. And those who can't just buy it can save up money but they must have it, it's the game of the decade and they can't miss out on it.. That concerns me.

I honestly dont care if they're $100 imo, i've played games since 90s' and that a Xbox Original game was $60 at release and just gone to about $70 aint close enough to keep devs paid. for the ammount of content players now adays expect in their New games. Would you be happy with more paid mini MTX in GTAVI ? if it keeps the Cash trend like in GTA Online' its still cheap/not worth it, since cash is eassy to get.
Honestly, I could see GTA 6 going for that as a starting price point but at the same time, I feel like they want a large player base for when it drops so maybe not. Mass majority of the games aren't even worth the $70-80 now anyways and players get access to free games from their platforms because so many have failed and want someone to play them to get any kind of revenue back. It's a complicated argument but it does have merit to be discussed.
Million-dollar companies have no right to say they are "struggling due to inflation" when most of the money goes directly into the top people's pockets Enough said

No modern game is worth $100. I can almost guarantee GTA 6 will be slop.
Here in Europe games are already 100$ 😂
Cap
Plenty of new ones are 120 in Australia, 160 for the special edition
$100 for a game won't matter to you if you just get your money up 😂
The ONLY time I would spend $100.00 on a game is if there were absolutely NO microtransactions. If GTA VI has that price tag, I'm good with GTA V and Red Dead II. Already started branching out of the Rockstar universe because of how ridiculous they've become. Excellent video, Ghillie.
Lol they must think we have a money garden growing in our backyards smh.
I remember when a VA said that if you couldn't afford to pay crunchyroll's subscription you don't deserve to watch anime.
If this keeps up third world countries won't be able to have anything.
Yeah. That really sucks. I'm from Brazil and 100 dollars here is equivalent to R$ 606. That is around 20% of the average brazilian salary.
As someone who lives in a third world country, i have never bought any subscriptions for shows and movies. I've only bought one game which was beamng drive because it was only 8$ and i enjoyed playing thepirated version for a long time. I pirated everything else and if they increase the prices, a lot more people will start pirating

Get ready for everything to go up.
And this is why I play older games with lower prices...😐
Because your poor?
Thats why i pirate games.
It is not about being poor. Sometimes you just dont want to spend like 80 dollars on a game that takes 200gb. Instead you could get an old game from sale for 5 dollars which takes alot less space and is more fun.

Economists when you tell them that inflation affects the wealth of every single person and not just of the multi billonarie companies: 🤯
If you say games aren't worth it they you haven't seen RDR 2. But yeah, if all companies started pricing their games at 100$, the industry would experience an equivalent of The Great Extinction
Gaming companies: Games should cost 100$ plus have micro transactions!
Also gaming companies: Why do people keep pirating our games? Why do people rather play old games? Why do players hate us?
we should not pay the price bec game studios have too high budgets (and then blame us bec they had to lay off devs), its ridiculous

Yea, no. Gta 5 is a full-priced game which many people bought multiple times, which is monetised like a f2p mobile game.
There's no reason to perk up the purchase cost since they get an infinite return on investment through the online modes of any games they release.
How can you even compare gta 5 to f2p mobile games, bruh
@jackdesanta69 I believe he meant GTA Online, and judging by the state of the game, he isn't wrong.

@jackdesanta69they’re doing the same thing, fool!
You've already mentioned it, but yeah, the "average Joes" paycheck isn't rising so only the big fat gaming company skyrocketing their price tag is a straight-up "no thank you". Plus, the "let people pay 100 bucks for games" guy ignoring the existence of microtransaction is just revolting. Yeah, if the gaming industry completely stops those dumb practices and give everything to us in $100 package, I might pay it, but in the current state? Get lost buddy...
Games have basically been doing this as "Deluxe" Editions. Which is the base game that they cut parts out for.
100$ is what we pay already in Europe.
And what do we get? Broken, most often shit games full of additional monetization. All while those greedy corporations make big bank.
Yeah f*ck right off with that idea 😂
Hard take - 60$ was overpriced 15 years ago. Now a days I don’t see how parents can afford gaming for children. Not that gta6 is for kids but ya know we all got our hands on past gtas when we were kids.
A 70 dollar game is around 315 reais.
The average salary in Brazil is around 1.400 thousand dollars. Only bills already eat half of the salary.

The gaming industry is more popular and profitable today than it's ever been, yet it's still not enough because some good for nothing suits NEED to see number go up and consumers have already been milked dry with microtransactions, battlepasses, and other live-service slop.
Fiduciary responsibility let's gooooo 😭😭
After seeing the state GTA 5 is in with the bugs that aren't getting patched, the low payouts for over priced items and the general state of the game I'm on the fence for GTA 6 and lately not leaning in its favor. If the base game is $100 then I'm going to laugh and take my money and time somewhere else.
a nearly 12 year old game with bugs isnt surprising idk what this comment is supposed to mean especially when most of the rockstar staff are not even on gta 5 anymore
Rockstar is in the position to really fuck over the competition. They know people will buy it, is all I’m going to say.
If they make GTA 6 cost $100 GTA 6 will be the only game I buy in the next 10 years 😂
It's that type of thinking that's gonna end up making the price hike permanent
@angeldiaz7607 well one it was a joke, and two I don't want it to be 100 dollars but we don't really have control of that because gaming companies will do as they please so if they make GTA 6 $100 that's probably going to be the only game I ever play, I'm not buying anything else if they raise the prices.
Plus I've been waiting for 10 years for GTA 6 I'd probably drop 200 just to make sure I got the best stuff.

@ ?????
I agree with you, Ghillie. Many of today's games are not worth the $70 they cost. You also underline a point that these "economic" experts always forget: People's wages have never been "adjusted" for inflation. Maybe if they stop losing money for failures like "Concord" they will have more budget to dedicate to valid projects. To just name another example: "Dead Space 2" was considered by EA a failure because the company spent a ton of money on marketing, expecting that title to sell the same as a new COD or Battlefield. If they just had a reality check in time, they could have realized that was impossible and would not have wasted that money.
We need to get people on this chain “Make that Shit 100 bet we won’t buy it”
Gta 6 is literally the only game I'd pay that peice
Blah blah blah who even gonna care about "people graduating from college". Shut up and get lost

The scary part is that not everyone want have kids and house you know.

LMFAOO SEVERAL GAME STUDIOS ARE CONSTANTLY RELEASING GARBAGE UNFINISHED GAMES AND THEY WANT MORE MONEY……. Oookkk
I start seriously reconsidering when a game is $40, I ain’t dropping $100 for a new game.
gta6 will be boring an bland because all creative people that made previous games already left the company, So i can not comprehend why everyone so hyping about gta6
Agreed, hopefully GTA 6 surprises us in a good way
Honestly, with inflation and all the rampant greed everywhere nowadays (Netflix raising their prices again), I’m shocked games still only cost $69.99… I figure by the time the PS6/next Xbox is released, 80 bucks will be the standard base price for most AAA titles.
Until you realize we still in ps5 gen xbox series s/x and the companies are expecting rockstar to make their move about GTA6
What's sad is we don't even get cool items for buying limited edition things or vaults , which should include unique camos which I don't understand how Rockstar can't make for our weaponry , should include awesome remade outfits for like Niko or Claude cj I don't know add some like flames or something 😂 basically everything's generic including quality we might get a map a gold case or a pendant nothing to justify spending hundreds of dollars imo. I'm sad to see the mark 2 weapons in gta 5 online can't even get new camos , they show no love to them.
Don't forget all the preorder nonsense and the fact that most game sales are digital downloads.
Gee... I guess shark cards aren't making take two and rockstar billions each year that they think inflating a game to 100bucks is justifiable
Awesome video 💯
GTA 6 with online is gonna be like 69.99€ mark my words.
Crazy most base new games are 70 to 80 now 100 no im good what the hell
If it is going to cost $100 , this better be the be a masterpiece, and FAR exceeds expectations with LOTS too do in the game cuz if it does do that, I can imagine the amount of backlash it will receive 💀
I find it absolutely astonishing that people within the gaming industry cannot comprehend these simple things you have just said in this video
Things like skinflation
Purchasing power and the fact that not every game is worth a $100 price tag
Considering I usually don't buy a game unless it's on a discount because of a sale (Steam Summer Sale for example), I laugh at the idea that people would pay full price when you just have to wait a couple months after the release for the first sale. The downside is, GTA6 will be taking multiple years for the PC version. Sadly
Crazy thing is it’s already happened with titles currently releasing at a base, come GTA6 it’ll be ‘normalized’ by then. Looking outside the box is becoming very desirable.
If games start costing this much. People will either not buy it or less games will be brought. Simple as that
Damn I commented this before actually watching the video. And ghillie hit it right on the head. That’s exactly what will happen.
People are really geeked to spend $100 on a game
1. They’ve seen 1 trailer of
2. Have seen no real gameplay of
3. A game that’s gonna 1000% have GTA plus built in
4. We don’t even know how much worse they’re gonna monetize this game aside from just GTA Plus
5. NOBODYS PLAYED IT YET.
How can people be excited for something? They’ve only seen a few minutes of and nobody has been able to review yet? It makes no sense. It’s like peoples brains have been rotted by modern gaming to where they’re ready to pay for something without even trying it for themselves or at least waiting for somebody else’s review like come on 💀💀💀
EXACTLY
Even if the game was $70 I wouldnt buy it rather I'd wait till a discount popped up for that particular game.
We are evolving, just backwards.
$100 games are pretty common here in australia due to our currency. but if it was $100 usd that means gta6 would cost 159.24 for us

Rockstar has still not fix half the planes with bomb bays for example the cabinet cuben800
Has the option to have bombays but it's d.deactivated, ever since they released? That's the winter DLC
If there are people who buy the same game three times, then why not increase the price, right? Yes, I am one of those critics who blames the players themselves for the shit that the market has become, because no matter how bad it is, there are still people who buy it.
Both of you are the problem
It should be cheaper, because it's digital
I wouldn't pay more than $40 for any game, and I don't think I ever have. Then again, I'm never desperate to play anything; I am happy to wait until the sales.
Tom Henderson debunked this 100 dollar game thing
Maybe but I may change my mind over the next few months.
bro, theyre doing it cus theres some employees are just hired on DEI and kept on so they can pay them for doing nothing, but every true game journalist (like rk outpost, endymoin, geeks & gamers, hyponitic, vara dark) even do not like this idea and clearly against it, they know players that are not streamers and just casual players cannot afford it (you know who im talking about) but they need to go back to 40-50$ or 70, like bro i can buy like 3-5 games with $100 (£80 cus its cheaper in our end), plus most of us are gonna watch these streams so we know if we can buy it or not cus i do want gta 6 to thrive but i dont want it to flop too cus of the mega changes and the evidence of R* employees working there and dan not being there to overwatch gta6's progression, like ik gta 6 will heavily be toned down compared to gta 3 to gta 4 and pre-gta 5 next gen.
im no hater to gta but i still support and respect your opinions and i still come back to watch gta content to see the progression, like is it thriving or flopping, but still take care ghillie, i still respect you
The game is so hyped that they know that people are willing to pay a higher price for it. The problem is how far can and will they push it. If people are willing to spend $100 they wont mind spending $120 for it or maybe even more.. And those who can't just buy it can save up money but they must have it, it's the game of the decade and they can't miss out on it.. That concerns me.
$60 was a perfect price. $70 is already a little crazy. But if people actually start thinking its ok to charge 100 whole ass dollars then the industry is just too far gone
I remember that GTA IV cost $25 or $20 at release. How did we go from $20 to $100 in the span of just 2 releases??? If rockstar really does this, the player base of gta 6 will be A LOT LESS CASUAL.
I don't know where you're getting that price from. GTA IV was $60 at launch. ($90 for the special edition) Gen 7 consoles (Xbox 360 & PS3) brought $60 games. Gen 9 consoles (Xbox Series & PS5) brought $70 games.
@@MellowYe77ow IGN has a very old review on the game on youtube in which they state is was $20. I purchased it in 2013 at a retailer (prior to GTA 5's release) and it was around that price. I can't imagine anyone spending $60 in 2008 for a video game.
Yep I'm in that boat of can't afford that, that would be closer to 180 for me hopefully this game not a huge micro transaction as in skins and all that crap, I've already been burnt on Black Ops 6, honestly I'm scared of the future I have no hope
I already buy significantly less games than I did last generation as I never know most times if the product will be finished at launch and the high price points dont help either.
I would pay $100 for GTA6, but if Activision or EA thinks that they can get away by selling COD of FIFA/Madden with this price. They will be disappointed
It would have to be absolutely flawless in terms of bugs with a fantastic story, graphics, physics, controls, and hours of flushed out content.
Make it 250 dollars, we will still preorder
If it has $100 price tag, I won’t financially recover from it. I’d have to hard pass on it.
You've gotta also consider that not every country has the same minimum or average wage as US, the average american according to google makes something around 60k, while the average italian makes 30k (which is false because a "good" salary is 1500 euros a month, so 18k in a year) so if the cost can be absurd for an american, it is completely impossibile for almost any other country that has lower wages
If it's $100 on release I'll just give it 3-6 months until a Christmas sale or similar. I can wait
So uh I don’t think most people are gonna be down with a casual 42% increase in the cost of their games but what do I know
I mean buying a game worth 100dolars is crazy and it would not benefit me because my friends will just refuse to spend that much but if the game is GOOD then sure take the 100
sounds about right. If I had ended up paying 100for RDR2 I would have gotten over it rather quickly due to the games quality. What i am finding stupid is all these other companies sayi8ng they hope it sets the new price of games moving forward, like they themselfes make games anywhere near Rockstars level lol
We already pay $100 or more in Australia dose that mean all AAA+ titles are gonna cost aussies $130-$150
for gta 6 i dont mind. in the 12 years that gta 5 has been out. i never bought any micro transation so what i paid 12 years ago was all i paid. and considering the potential content i'm fine with paying the 100 for 6. but i can understand the frustration.
Games are already 80€ in most EU countries, and i noticed that my friends and i rather buy older games than new ones with shameless amounts of microtransactions. So if GTA 6 is gonna cost 100 i think ill pass until its affordable.
Million-dollar companies have no right to say they are "struggling due to inflation" when most of the money goes directly into the top people's pockets
Enough said

$100 for a video game sounds like price gouging and I wonder if consumer laws will prohibit this and I would rather wait for a discount if this is true.
