Can we just talk about how the lines “Maybe Prom night?/ Maybe dancing?” Are delivered real quick? Veronica asks “maybe prom night” as if she’s testing the waters, thinking this tough loner is going to say some typical one-liner about prom being stupid. But then JD responds with “maybe dancing?” In this hopeful tone that implies that it’s all he’s ever wanted on some level: to do something typical, to live a normal life, to just be seventeen, to dance with the girl of his dreams at prom. And once he reciprocates the desire to live normally, it just opens this floodgate of relief and affection when Veronica says “don’t stop looking in my eyes!” Like she’s finally got a hold on this drowning boy and is ready to pull him to safety. Those lines always break my heart a little.
I love how in your other animatics JD has the black smoke that brings darkness not only into his life but starts to infect Veronica (when his smoke seeped under her door). But in this one Veronica has this bright smoke that brings light to her and JD and shows what could have been if he kept his promise. It's symbolizing how even though JD hates himself and is a dark and twisted person, she brings him light and almost makes him forget about his crazy ideas. I love your animatics. They're very creative and original. Keep up the amazing work!
But like, JD *did* keep his promise. Veronica made him promise not to kill anymore people. In return she said she'd stay with him. He didn't kill anyone else, but she still left. (Yes I know why, she was freaked out and paranoid, and didn't feel safe). But that doesn't mean JD didn't keep his promise. He only went to bomb the school because he thought the students were keeping her from him and doing so would get her back.
"Yeah we're damaged, badly damaged, but that does not make us wise." So true, damn, this was a good line. I feel like people often mistake having traumatic experiences with being more mature and more worldly. That's not to say survivors of trauma can't be more mature or wise, but correlation does not equal causation. I hate people who think of themselves as somehow better than others or wiser simply because they've had a rougher life. What matters is what you take from those experiences, that you use them to become stronger and wiser and kinder, not that you had them. I had a friend in middle school who unfortunately hadn't had the easiest life because her parents divorced when she was young and her mother whom she lived with didn't have a lot of money. Even so, it wasn't an excuse for her to act all high and mighty and treat me like I was lesser just because I had led a "better" life and both my parents were still together. And anyway, what she didn't know was that I was also going through some things as well. I just didn't flaunt it like a badge of honor the same way she did and tended to keep my problems to myself. But my life wasn't perfect either. No one's is. We all have our struggles and insecurities, even those who seem like their lives are perfect and they have it all.

Jacqueline Dorn It kind of represents her emotions in a way, and when they get to J.D. They make him feel happy showing how they could be good together if maybe J.D. Was a little bit less damaged. In her other animatics J.D. Has the opposite of Veronica, and instead has black smoke that's damaging to everything it touches, showing how by himself he can't control his darkness. That's why he says he needs Veronica. In a sense, he literally needs her because without her he's crazy. This shows how good they could be, but J.D. Becomes obsessed with the relationship because of how he feels less damaged with her. But because of that obsession, it ends up damaging him more than before.

THIS ANIMATION LEFT ME DAMAGED AND HAPPIER THAN I'VE EVER BEEN AT THE SAME TIME Also I really liked the contrast of the black smoke during Meant to Be Yours and the white... mist...?..,,Mist, yeah, in this one. Because smoke, like JD later in the musical, is suffocating, and deadly, and cannot be seen through and must be avoided, But JD at this point loves Veronica, and he is transparent, she changes him into something calming, something rejuivinating, (water) and something that is easily passed through, and beautiful, because together they can be something alright, rather than something dangerous.

Honestly, does anyone else notice in this song, in the end, he doesn't promise JACK SHIT? He actually never SAYS he'll stop or they'll stop, just parrots back the chorus 'Can't we be seventeen' while she asks him if he'll choose her, and then just says he chooses her. He never outright agrees what he's doing is wrong or that he'll stop, he just says what she says back to her, in a way that's just enough to make her think he's agreeing. 'You're the one I choose' isn't 'I choose you over continuing', even if Veronica intended that meaning. He just chose to interpret it differently to keep her close. He didn't change at all, even for a second, he just talked her down. And the fact that both most of the audience and Veronica believes him just goes to show how effective just implications can be. He IMPLIES that he's changing, but never intended to. He fooled most everyone, including the audience. He wants Veronica, no doubt, but he never intended to stop, honestly.
Well I think that in the song when Veronica says "so what's it gonna be, I wanna be with you" and JD says "I wanna be with you" Veronica's saying that she wants to be with him and is then asking him what's it gonna be ether he continues murdering people or they can be together if JD stops, she then says that she choses him and when he says that he choses her, he's saying that he'll stop because she literally says that if he choses her he'll have to stop, so JD is more towards lying then just implying really, at least that's my opinion.

Everybody always says that “I Am Damaged” was the only one of this artist’s animatics that made them cry but- this one,, this one gets me too. You can really see how much Veronica cares for him and how willing he is to change at the time, only to go back on his word and rip her wound open. And the thought of them having a happy ending with those big, white, pure dresses.. ugh I’m shook.

I just started watching your Heathers animatics, and I'm beginning to realize why they're some of my favorites now. You may not have the grandiose or choreography some others have, but there's an intimacy and charm to your style that makes it stand really strong on its own. I especially the creativity, like the aura of light Veronica has, reaching out to JD, contrasting with the aura of smoke and fire JD has in his songs.
I still enjoy watching this to this day. If Hollywood ever decides to make the Heather Musical a movie, I hope this would be the visual representation they would put for Seventeen.
Ok, it took me 3 animatics to realize this, but there's a recurring motif of JD wiping away one of Veronica's tears with his thumb! It's a small detail, but as someone who loves recurring motifs, I wanted you to know I noticed that and thought it was very cool!
I love how they use the music to tell the story at 2:40. When Veronica says "if I'm what you choose", a distorted bass note plays symbolizing the fact that JD would never choose Veronica over his own pessimistic views. Bravo to the score writers
I like glowing shit, too. It's pretty. And the way you used it in this animatic was amazing. It set the mood and was really well done. Then the ending broke my heart.

I'm five days away from turning 18, and being 17 has probably been the best age of my whole life so far. I love being 17 so much, that listening to this song and knowing I can't go back to being 17 again is making me cry.
Minty_The_Sweet_Alicorn but the point of JD’s character in the movie was he wasn’t supposed to have depth. he was an abusive asshole, and the musical kinda glossed over that to make it seem like he loved her. but actually, he only used her, which made the ending much more satisfying for the viewer and veronica.
I love both JD’s for different reasons. The movie JD was a psychopath and crazy but it made him interesting because you often never see someone with that level of insanity. The musical JD was obviously crazy but he had a soft spot in his heart for Veronica because love does change a person. He was mad at the world but at the same time he still was his best self around Veronica. She kinda guided him out of the craziness. But when she was away he was back to his rage. Personally I think JD should have been more crazy in the musical during the scenes when he’s mad but the JD movie should have been more loving to Veronica in the scenes when he’s with her.

Wow, this is incredible!! I'm in love with your animatics. One of my biggest pet peeves with heathers animatics is that people will just draw the characters standing statically, and it's really refreshing to see such expressive and fluid motions in all of your animatics. I also really appreciate the varying camera angles in each shot, since I don't see that often ether. Keep up the great work, I'm a big fan already!

I don't know how you made the shining light effect, but it was gorgeous. The part with her dress was so beautiful it was like watching an anime. I also really liked the expressive faces and fluid motion. Overall really good.
I posted this on a Discord server when I shared the animatic, but, I love the point at 02:09 with the cyclone of white light surrounding them, it really perpetuates the long high note and pleases me (instead of other animatics I've seen where they just stand there looking at eachother doing nothing, trying to hold the note. Like jeez, it's feels so boring when they do that). Your animatics are so unique and full of life. I mean, the whole point of doing an animatic of a musical song is to step away from reality and creep into the bounds of animation. You aren't limited to what's physically possible, so for God's sake, use that opportunity. This is a perfect example of that.

Veronica asks “maybe prom night” as if she’s testing the waters, thinking this tough loner is going to say some typical one-liner about prom being stupid.
But then JD responds with “maybe dancing?” In this hopeful tone that implies that it’s all he’s ever wanted on some level: to do something typical, to live a normal life, to just be seventeen, to dance with the girl of his dreams at prom.
And once he reciprocates the desire to live normally, it just opens this floodgate of relief and affection when Veronica says “don’t stop looking in my eyes!” Like she’s finally got a hold on this drowning boy and is ready to pull him to safety.
Those lines always break my heart a little.

I love how in your other animatics JD has the black smoke that brings darkness not only into his life but starts to infect Veronica (when his smoke seeped under her door). But in this one Veronica has this bright smoke that brings light to her and JD and shows what could have been if he kept his promise. It's symbolizing how even though JD hates himself and is a dark and twisted person, she brings him light and almost makes him forget about his crazy ideas. I love your animatics. They're very creative and original. Keep up the amazing work!

(Yes I know why, she was freaked out and paranoid, and didn't feel safe). But that doesn't mean JD didn't keep his promise. He only went to bomb the school because he thought the students were keeping her from him and doing so would get her back.

"Yeah we're damaged, badly damaged, but that does not make us wise." So true, damn, this was a good line. I feel like people often mistake having traumatic experiences with being more mature and more worldly. That's not to say survivors of trauma can't be more mature or wise, but correlation does not equal causation. I hate people who think of themselves as somehow better than others or wiser simply because they've had a rougher life. What matters is what you take from those experiences, that you use them to become stronger and wiser and kinder, not that you had them. I had a friend in middle school who unfortunately hadn't had the easiest life because her parents divorced when she was young and her mother whom she lived with didn't have a lot of money. Even so, it wasn't an excuse for her to act all high and mighty and treat me like I was lesser just because I had led a "better" life and both my parents were still together. And anyway, what she didn't know was that I was also going through some things as well. I just didn't flaunt it like a badge of honor the same way she did and tended to keep my problems to myself. But my life wasn't perfect either. No one's is. We all have our struggles and insecurities, even those who seem like their lives are perfect and they have it all.
People don't flaunt like her, but most of us come from broken families, nobody likes to share their problems to the world

Jacqueline Dorn It kind of represents her emotions in a way, and when they get to J.D. They make him feel happy showing how they could be good together if maybe J.D. Was a little bit less damaged. In her other animatics J.D. Has the opposite of Veronica, and instead has black smoke that's damaging to everything it touches, showing how by himself he can't control his darkness. That's why he says he needs Veronica. In a sense, he literally needs her because without her he's crazy. This shows how good they could be, but J.D. Becomes obsessed with the relationship because of how he feels less damaged with her. But because of that obsession, it ends up damaging him more than before.

Because smoke, like JD later in the musical, is suffocating, and deadly, and cannot be seen through and must be avoided,
But JD at this point loves Veronica, and he is transparent, she changes him into something calming, something rejuivinating, (water) and something that is easily passed through, and beautiful, because together they can be something alright, rather than something dangerous.

Honestly, does anyone else notice in this song, in the end, he doesn't promise JACK SHIT? He actually never SAYS he'll stop or they'll stop, just parrots back the chorus 'Can't we be seventeen' while she asks him if he'll choose her, and then just says he chooses her. He never outright agrees what he's doing is wrong or that he'll stop, he just says what she says back to her, in a way that's just enough to make her think he's agreeing. 'You're the one I choose' isn't 'I choose you over continuing', even if Veronica intended that meaning. He just chose to interpret it differently to keep her close.
He didn't change at all, even for a second, he just talked her down. And the fact that both most of the audience and Veronica believes him just goes to show how effective just implications can be. He IMPLIES that he's changing, but never intended to. He fooled most everyone, including the audience. He wants Veronica, no doubt, but he never intended to stop, honestly.

I'm five days away from turning 18, and being 17 has probably been the best age of my whole life so far. I love being 17 so much, that listening to this song and knowing I can't go back to being 17 again is making me cry.

I'm crying so hard. The movie didn't give his character enough depth, the musical is infinitely better than the movie
Minty_The_Sweet_Alicorn but the point of JD’s character in the movie was he wasn’t supposed to have depth. he was an abusive asshole, and the musical kinda glossed over that to make it seem like he loved her. but actually, he only used her, which made the ending much more satisfying for the viewer and veronica.
I love both JD’s for different reasons. The movie JD was a psychopath and crazy but it made him interesting because you often never see someone with that level of insanity. The musical JD was obviously crazy but he had a soft spot in his heart for Veronica because love does change a person. He was mad at the world but at the same time he still was his best self around Veronica. She kinda guided him out of the craziness. But when she was away he was back to his rage. Personally I think JD should have been more crazy in the musical during the scenes when he’s mad but the JD movie should have been more loving to Veronica in the scenes when he’s with her.
I watched the movie, and the musical is definitely better, yeah.

One of my biggest pet peeves with heathers animatics is that people will just draw the characters standing statically, and it's really refreshing to see such expressive and fluid motions in all of your animatics. sunshine and storm clouds simultaneously
complimentary colors
(for example, yellow and purple)
and it's only fitting that someone

is so healing, so refreshing
and you wish every weekend could be like this,

taking polaroids and walking along the beach
spontaneously dancing on the streets
to the macarena, or can't help falling in love
and it's just so ridiculously disney-perfect
it's hard to believe you'll ever have anything less than a happy ending.

I posted this on a Discord server when I shared the animatic, but, I love the point at 02:09 with the cyclone of white light surrounding them, it really perpetuates the long high note and pleases me (instead of other animatics I've seen where they just stand there looking at eachother doing nothing, trying to hold the note. Like jeez, it's feels so boring when they do that). Your animatics are so unique and full of life. I mean, the whole point of doing an animatic of a musical song is to step away from reality and creep into the bounds of animation. You aren't limited to what's physically possible, so for God's sake, use that opportunity. This is a perfect example of that.
