@@nappingkyoshiro3393 The arc after the Greed Island arc is seen by many as not only the best arc in HxH but as one of the best in shounen history. So if you have to choose, definitely go for HxH 2011. Both are great, but HxH 2011 has quite a lot more episodes since it simply adapted much more of the manga. By the way, you're German, right? Because I just so happen to be German, so if thats the case it might be easier for me to tell you how and where to watch it.

I feel a weird sense of satisfaction when someone praise (and so eloquently) HXH. This anime deserves all the attention for providing this much quality.

One aspect that makes it unique imo is how no one is the strongest individual. Everyone has a weakness and isn't overpowered by the power of friendship. Pretty rare to see a shounen that doesn't follow rules, which is why I like it.

Loving HxH made me appreciate the chapter black arc of YYH
It’s clearly the progenitor of the idea that battle strength is a nebulous concept and brains will change the game where rules are set by individuals.
What a mind, I wish he was healthy enough to give us more regular updates.
was about to say, chapter black and the territories were definitely an inspiration for hxh.
That's one of the reasons why chapter black is my fav arc made by togashi (yes over the chimera ant, phantom troupe and dark tournament arcs).
thats4thebirds most definitely it’s pretty clear togashi wanted to take yu yu into a more analytical and cerebral approach especially with chapter black that why I loved it so much but I can also understand why chapter black might’ve not been so well received especially coming after the dark tournament arc nothing but fighting nonstop and to switch to some more analytical was crazy for a lot of people but I loved and I think it what helps Hunter x Hunter shine so much of it togashi going deeper with it

I think he’s talking about from a typical moral code, he’s not a good person. It’s true too because the world doesn’t care about intentions nearly as much as actions and Killua’s outlook on life and moral code is not typical of a conventional “good person”.

In this world, our judgment of someone doesn't rely on whether they've had a compelling character arc or not - if they're a murderer, they're bad. If they're incredibly strong and know how to use that strength to hurt and kill people, they're terrifying.
The guy in the vid wasn't saying that Killua _is_ terrifying; he was saying that he _would_ be if we didn't actually see him from the perspective we do in the series, and if he actually existed. There's a general idea that assassins are bad, after all.

Which made me think of stands. I'm not really into JoJo, but from the few seasons, I've seen it seems to have a similar non-strength based power-system. It's about brain over brawn.

I can’t believe I took so long to find out about HxH, I’m working on creating my first comic, and HxH is the anime that made me realize how much more I can do, changed my whole story because of Nen and the freedom of it....

I mean Tiens a pretty awesome character. It's just that dbz onwards didn't let him have any scenes
His comment about Tien irked me as well. If one looked into the lore more, Tien is VERY strong and it's known he continually trains no matter what knowing well he will never reach Goku. He and Piccolo are arguably the only two left who actually train behind the scenes.
The downfall is Toriyama is bad at writing for side characters and has turned most of them into a cheerleading squad for Goku and Vegeta.
But Tien held his own against 2nd form Cell and could have possibly killed him of he wasn't so drained of his stamina. That's still an admirable feat for a guy who is still human.
Legit could not enjoy most other shounen's after watching HxH. Great vid.

Yeah it really sets the bar. After 2015 there hasn't been a single anime that did it for me like HxH did. Attack on Titan is good and all, but nowhere near the level of enjoyment HxH brings. AOT uses alot of shock value and the deaths don't mean anything in the long run. Compared to HxH where they mean alot, but don't go over the top like AOT does.

@@thewakandankingtchaka5331 right now I'm on episode 102; it's the episode after Gon meets the chameleon dude and learns his powers and plans. I can't wait to see how they use his power to fight Pitou and the King!! The build up is real!!
Reuben Ninan - Ah it’s full steam ahead from now on, as some one who has seen the show multiple times, all I can say is pay attention to everything, there were little details that everyone’s gonna miss the first time around no matter the case.
I’d recommend rewatching this Arc couple of months after you finish the series.

For favorite characters:
Leoreo for sure! I wish he was in the show more often but I truly enjoyed his character and how different he is. At first I thought this guy was a douche but after a few episodes this dick slowly shifts into one of my favorite personas. He seems as if he is the only person in the show that is trying to save people's lives instead of the taking them. I long for Leoreo to be the best combat medic or something like that in future arcs!
Hisoka is also a really good character imo. I love how he is the "overarching villain" but he really isn't. He, like everyone in the show, has his own motive and his own desires; albeit those motives may be a bit weird and kinky I think overall he's a good character who only adds to the show.
Regarding newer characters, I also really like Knuckles. He is almost like a future Gon to me. Strong willed, tenacious, a bit dumb, and lastly, kind. I really enjoyed how he is comical but strong and serious when need be. His ability is also really strong but balanced in my eyes. I want to see him fight Cheetu so bad now!

I just finished HxH a couple of days ago. Binged on it, but didn't want it to end. But my fucking god, Ging's last message to Gon hit home. It truly is the time we spend with others during the meandering that we find what truly matters.

The world building in HxH is phenomenal and the characters stay with you. Its insane to me that it is not more mainstream?? Cuz the 2011 production is a masterpiece that should be experienced regardless.
I've always heard about this show and have never tried it. I've seen many a YT video talking about it to, but this is the one I think to really push me to sit down and binge a few episodes and see what I think. I watched Hunter X Hunter on Toonami, so that's one episode a week for about 3 years. I loved it, of course, even to the point that I'd tune in at 3:30AM Sunday morning for that week's episode. I hope to see more someday.
This is by far my favorite channel right now.
Took me exactly 3 tries to get into it too. In fact the only reason I gave it a 3rd try is because a friend of mine has a hip hop project that is loosely based on HxH. And it was amazing. So I gave the anime another try. Im glad I did. It became my favorite anime over time.

I relate to the feelings you voiced towards Hakusho and Hunter: Hakusho is definitely the most important anime to my life and helped shape my youth, but Hunter is definitely...just... MORE. It's better, more depth, feels larger (like you said: a whole universe bigger than our POV characters). Like, I've caught myself imagining my nen type and possible abilities more than I've dreamed of developing my spiritual awareness. It just gives us a more defined rule set to play with. And strangely enough: having the limitations of nen makes it more enjoyable. Almost like having a puzzle and you kinda have to work it out.
This is EASILY my favorite anime ever made. I remember beginnning the first episode and thinking to myself. "This show seems a little too kid like, I prolly won't like it." But omfg was i wrong.

wow your channe is so underrated. The way you analyze is amazing.
The fact that you could follow anyone in the story and be just as interested as when you were following Gon is what I love most about the show. Unlike what the vast majority of people believe about themselves, one person is NOT the center of all things that matter in the universe. It's what I hate most about shows like Dragonball, nothing important seems to happen unless it happens around Goku or whoever. In HxH though, Gon could be (and in fact, *actually has been*) taken out of the story and yet the plot has moved on without skipping a beat and been just as entertaining.
Dragonball is about Goku. His journey being the best warrior he can be. Its not about some other characters Vendetta or mysteries of the universe that someone is looking for. And even then, some of the conflict that happens in Dragonball is not because of Goku. Excuse him for actually being a protagonist. Guts in Berserk was and is the center piece to the events that led to the state of that franchises world. We want to see HIS journey of Revenge.

If you haven't watched hxh you should definitely give it a shot. The 1st season definitely drags but the spider troupe and chimera ant arcs are 2 of the best in Shonen anime

This show made me interested in world politics, & reflect on why I like certain characters & tropes. Reading the manga & watching the shows just made me love it more.

6:09-6:20 But in Naruto the main 3 characters don't stick together throughout the series though. Sasuke leaves early on, and gets his own separate storyline that coincides with Naruto's. They're only "together" when they bump into each other for a quick clash and then they separate again.
A better example to illustrate your point would've been One Piece.

Александр J True but for one piece, the straw hats all have a goal that coincides with eachother. They all need each other’s help to get to their own end goals so it makes sense. While I know you weren’t talking bad about one piece or anything but a lot of people don’t realize this fact. Now Fairy tail is an example of a group staying together just to stay together
Even then, One Piece doesn’t fall in line with that stigmatization 💯%. The Straw Hats separate throughout each arc all the time, and they were quite literally, forcefully separated from one another in order for them all to grow and mature as individuals. Even though they are together for most of the series, the Straw Hats live out their own distinct destinies that just so happen to intertwine them all with each other.
I think people who aren't fanatics of the series generally think of pre-shippuden Naruto when they think of Naruto, and it's a true statement in that regard.

Yep, people usually get surprised with how "dark" it gets later in the season but it's been pretty dark since the first arc

@@whathell6t Oh I agree with Rurouni Kenshin but Hokuto no Ken and Ankoku no Hakashin (Bastard!!) were kinda Dark right on the surface whereas Hunter X Hunter feels like it's got that "power of friendship!" and bouncy colorful Dragon Ball Vibe to it on the surface for the first bit. Also, I want to throw so many good vibes at you for even mentioning Ankoku no Hakashin (Bastard!!) that series got so overlooked. T_T

Most people are not "cultured" enough to enjoy berserk. Not to be that guy who goes on about iq & rick & morty but you do need to be a certain kind of individual to enjoy let alone process it

Super happy to see this. I’ve been watching the show for a few weeks now. I’m currently in the chimera ant arc, so I was 50/50 on whether you’d spoil anything past that point, and I’m glad you didn’t. This show is way to enjoyable to go in knowing how developments go down.
I loved HXH when I started watching it, though didn't like the movie that much. Can't wait till it continues, if it will anyway.
We can only hope, but with all the years of hiatuses or only handful of chapters that do get released at a time, we'll probably never see an ending to the series :(

the thing is (mostly in the chimaera ant arc) there was too much "tell don't show" happening. and though it has an intricate plot and great characters, the storytelling wasn't the best and the audience doesn't get to spend much time with the characters and aside from killua and the ants, the characters don't develop much.
and then the PACING so much of the cool stuff gets rushed or happens off screen and then you literally get an episode where half of its runtime is two characters nutting because they love the king so much. Too many long drawn out reaction shots, too much exposition and too many talking heads. and then the one time I really want to see two characters talk it out they have a boring one sided fight. Is that just me?
If you want to talk about subverting shonen tropes, Mob Psycho, One Punch Man, and Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood do it way better, in fewer episodes and don't have pedophile clowns.
The narrator and the slow pacing is what make chimera ants unique and beautiful to watch. It's a conceptual storytelling, just like neon genesis evangelion, where the characters mentality is more important than what is happening on screen. @@enzojose4001 that's an interesting perspective on it but it definitely wasn't effective for me. I think it could have done a better job showing who the characters are through their interactions and situations they're in than still frames with voice overs.

Yes, actually, I watch the 1999 version right up to the end of the Greed Island arc, then I switch over to the 2011 to fill in the 2nd half.
