I knew assassins had high dps, but I didn't expect them to win head-on against a big army of knights, that's crazy.
It's because units can stack while fighting, and have no cooldown after kiiling a unit, this makes DPS more effective than HP
assassins and knights actually have the same base damage, knights just have 1/3 more base health
the exact numbers are 15k hp and 80dpt for assassins, 20k hp and 80dpt for knights (dpt = damage per tick, multiply that by game speed to get dps)
now since the nizars use +5 fear factor and jeff used -5 fear factor or so which each change the damage by +/-25%, that would mean there are 15k hp 100dpt assassins fighting 20k hp 60dpt knights, meaning that each of those assassins can kill roughly 1.3 knights (ignoring unit stacking and other smaller factors)... which is pretty insane given that an assassin costs 60g while a knight costs 100g (weapon sell cost + recruitment), on top of a 100g + 5 wood initial sunk cost investment for each knight in form of the stables
they stack too well. U need to lure them chasing and charge from the side.

My advice: build a neatly organized castle with multiple layers, this will slow down assassins (climbing) and let you know early when they are invading because of the voice message.

The ultimate Stronghold Crusader challenge: a normal game against some strong ai lords, but if the scribe says "not enough wood my lord" or "can't place that there my lord" you auto lose.

Well it was nice try. Wish you luck next time and can't wait to see that. Btw I have a few suggestions:
1)From my expirience there are just two good counters to assasins: ranged units and moats. In this chalange you have no ranged units, however moats 'are kind of traps' (big hole with spikes vs big hole with water? Both are traps to me). But how to dig moats with just knights? Just ask you big cousins for help! If I'm not wrong ally AI often helps with diging the moat and thaks to that you can cut off that anoying entrance and force enemy AI to marche throught both Filips so that could help. Of course slaves can dig it, but I think that AI could just go with diffrenet pathfinding. Plus you can always buid walls/towers and moats just behind them -> slaves aren't able to destroy walls and assasins aren't able to score 10/10 on water jumping competitions so it's win-win-block-this-$*#&@)-situation
2)I've seen that you avoided stone prodution which could help with economy in your next run. You won't need stone for yourself... however 70gp/5 is still 70gp
3)I can be wrong, but there IS an option to get yourself some archers in your keep WITHOUT breaking the chalange. I could have missed that and you could have tried that, but if not... why won;t you ask your big and strong cousins for some defences? They should send you some troops and keep them in your keep -> most likely archers

If that river crossing to the North-West is within castle building limits then I would double stack walls and double crenulations. I think this stops assassins(??) so they would be forced to walk the long way past both cousins meaning you only need top defend them and not yourself!

What if you were to make 1 chokepoint, make a wall maze, make every woodcutter go through that thus giving you some extra firepower ( but could be where it is a worse case scenario where it just stacks up units.) in your meat grinder video you did a meatgrinder basicly.
Stack units onto 1 block and use that to your advantage with knights. You can utilize killing pits, add dogs or kinda forgot if there is anything more.
Now for more cheese you can spam ' Defend me' or aid me or whatever that is in the game. There are certain times when ai with that command will keep sending you units without cd. See why it is good? Unlimited units, you stack their units up then order them to attack. You also get archers this way. Additionally you can spam woodcutters to block the enemy for a bit. Nobody said you have to play fair.
a wall maze doesn't really work with assassins. Yeah walls would slow them down but they would still be spread out. On another note, I think the bread challenge is just too crazy and doesn't really add any excitement to the challenge.
@@R_5_D It does work. As long as you have an open path they won't climb. You can place gates and while they are climbing up the allies's archers can shoot them down.

I've started regularly using knights as they're really handy for quick response, anti-siege weapon defense, and a first charge against an AI for a mangonel tower for example.
Sandal Maker has such a good drop!
You can try to position yourself between Philips so their archers can handle the assassins while your knighs are scouting for them.
I got my hands on a fan made data sheet. Apparently assassins and knights have the same dps at 3200, with the major difference being total hp (15000 assassin, 20000 knight) and missile resistance .
The data sheet also showed that assassins ignore melee resistance - so assassins and knights do the same damage to each other, with the difference being knights having 33% more hp.
Its like the opposite of macemen - they have the same hp/durability stats as assassins, but they deal 1/3 of their damage to knights and euro swordsmen.

Perhaps focus more on traps? Caged dogs should be useful in sniffing out the assassins, though I seem to recall them nerfing them in the HD version. Been playing the game for over twenty years and I like to roleplay as an actual lord of the time, with a proper castle and such, so I dabbled with all the units as well as the traps.
Another thing to note about Good Things (good fear factor) is that the ai already cheats by building them inside moats (looking at you Saladin) so the workers don't waste time going there before they idle. I say you can do the same since the ai does it, but if you don't want to, then I suggest using the smallest garden instead of the dancing bear as its cheaper and doesn't take as much space: You get the bonus by the amount of Fear Factor you have, not the quality. Don't forget to spread them out strategically around your castle so your workers don't have to travel far to idle at

No archers against assassins is just painful to watch
There are 3 main reasons your knights lost against assassins:
1- fear factor (yours negative and Nizar's postive)
2- knights are not good against assassins in open ground as stacking become less relevant while DPS and quantity of units become more relevant
3- Nizar's assassin were stacked when you attempted to attack them while your knights were not
In online game with 10 minutes no rush, no one uses knights for being most expensive and having lower DPS compared to other units, but as the game progresses, it becomes the most used unit along with shield and horse archer.
Yeah if you ignore economy they become the best units, otherwise they would lose every fight in terms of efficiency!
The main point of making knights is to have a fast unit roaming around the map doing things other units can't do!
Assassins have a double damage bonus vs knights just fyi
@@hansomekim1219 no they don't, where did you get that from? they just deal their base damage to everything like most units, there's only macemen which get a 66% damage reduction and arabian swordsmen which get a 50% damage reduction to european swordsmen and knights specifically

you arent escaping this challenge :), beat emir with only engineer with oil pot as your ONLY unit both deffensive and offensive
(you can use portable shields and 1 assasin for gates, any trickes allowed, also you can change emir to someone else only when you litterally have no other option, and change it to lord that is rarely in your vids cus wolf/rat are too common)
Oil Engineers don't fight so it's impossible to beat Lord.

@@ShadowBreakout_AB from what I reamember lord can burn to death but its very resistant so if you somehow managed to make lord go out of keep then you can, for going near castle just use portable shields and for gates assasin, so it is possible, just very very very hard
Worst part is defence, but using walls can make a little easier
Edit: i did some testing and lord can be burnt to death, and its even easier than i though, it took 20 pots to take him down, worst part is how to make lord go out of his keep, in wiki it tells sometimes lord will try to defend small armies by himself so then it will leave keep but i dont know how to replicate this consistently

Knights so bad holy, the worst "elite" Unit in the game
Usually that's how "expensive" units work in strategy games, they're really nice to use (Harassment, picking units etc) but in terms of raw strength they always lose to cheap units!
