Great guy! I hope that his committee's PAC-12 dream comes true. The kind of support the committee is receiving arguably also means that a lot of Sac State's football games will likely be sold out. That's something for the current committed 8 PAC-12 schools to take with utmost seriousness.
Love this for Sac St. As an OSU fan I personally don’t really see Sac St as a realistic addition to the the PAC unless every target school in the central time zone falls through or if Sac St takes a reduced media share, but I think they’d be a great addition to the MW.
Great interview, guys. Only posting a What If? scenario here, but if at the 11th hour talks between the MWC and Northern Illinois fall through (I doubt it. I think you got NIU.), then circling back and talking to Sacramento State about membership would be a wise move. Sac State would replace the market lost with Fresno State. I don't see why Sac State should have this "PAC-12 or bust" mentality especially if the PAC isn't willing to bring them in. If Sac State really wants to go up to FBS and the MWC is the only available option, they should just take it.
They want major or majorish college football. Whatever that P12,AAC tier is called. MWC is no longer in that tier. The driving force behnd this is people in the area who see this as pursuing a major sports team not doing whats right for a college.
@@commodorezero While I do understand that, I don't think the MWC should just be dismissed altogether. If you have an opportunity to jump up to FBS and the MWC is the only conference giving you an invite, then you make the best of it. Hence, why I hope that this SAC-12 group are not being shortsighted about what they're doing.
Realistically, the only way I could see a Sac State invite is if they go the SMU route and promise to forgo their media rights share for a decade or so. I don't know if they could afford to do that while also performing at a FBS level.
I would not be surprised if Sac state goes to the mountain west, the egos in the pac would view this as a backward move. Gloria would consider this a positive move
It’s not about egos. It’s about valuation. Sac might or might not be determined a valuable asset to the PAC. The MWC schools left behind have lower media value. This is a fact.
@ I respect your perspective, the issue as I see it is originally the pac 2 did not want Wyoming and Nevada. Things have changed , I would not be surprised to see U Davies get a call from Either. It’s about numbers and as of now it’s a horse race to the finish. I would have rather seen the two join the Mountain west and grow versus destroy and form two group of five conferences. Just saying
@ it’s not at all a horse race. The PAC has until 2026 to get one more school. Wyoming and Nevada, while lovely universities I am sure, bring nominal media value. The PAC has the luxury and the finances and frankly the media value to get an eighth, and likely ninth school of quality when the timing and negotiation timelines meet. The MWC on the other hand is in a one conference horse race to change their “memorandum of understanding” into something more stable. Because if the media deal numbers look low, AFA and UNLV will bolt for the AAC and PAC respectively.
Great video gentlemen! I believe that it truly is Pac-12 or bust for Sacramento State. A lot of their nil donations are contingent upon them joining the Pac-12. I don't think that money will be there if they decide to join the MWC. It might be a possibility if the MWC new media deal is somewhat comparable to the Pac-12. Just a thought.
Based on the rumors of the PAC’s potential media deal being somewhere between 8-10M, I can’t see the MWC renegotiating for anything near that based on what they’ve replaced their losses with so far.
Good interview. Sac St makes sense as a fall back plan for PAC-12 to get 2 8 teams. How has Sac St done in FcS playoffs? Sacramento was supposed to have gotten the 29th MLS franchise (Sacramento Republic) but it fell through, I believe due to stadium cost. Next time you talk to Josh as if there is still a chance for an MLS team and would the MLS team share the stadium? I’m Houston the MLS Dynamo share the stadium with Texas Southern University.
They’ve made the FCS playoffs the last four years, and got to the 2nd round last year beating UND. Otherwise, I don’t think they’ve faired too well. And this year they are currently 3-6, so very doubtful for a playoff spot.
@@TheAveragejoe333the play of the current Football team this year isn’t a consideration according to insiders who have had discussions with the conferences. This is about media rights and market. SAC State makes more sense in the Mountain West than in the PAC. I hope it happens for them I really do. I think MWC should be looking at the FCS schools in the Big Sky rather than NIU. They had one good game against ND… doesn’t mean they are a good fit for MWC. Montana Montana State Idaho Getting those three and SAC in the future would be amazing. If they want to move east the Dakota State schools (NDSU, SDSU) would be great pick ups as well.
I think the problem is that they will have to make changes to the house settlement, if a FCS schools move up and i truly believe the FBS leadership would love to shut the door on any future move ups.
@ that’s sucks, because I would love to see those schools in the FBS… I mean it’d add more viewers since these states don’t have or only have one team in the FBS. I feel like with realignment going the way it is… they need to be willing to add more schools into the mix… or lose conferences and slowly lose what made college football what it was.
NIU is more than a game against ND. NIU has been to 8 conference championship games in last 13 seasons, has had multiple Heisman candidates, a BCS bowl appearance, the winningest school in Illinois the last 25 years, and brings the #3 Chicago market. They are proven success.
I’ll give Sac St a ton of credit! They are making noise about going FBS. other CSU schools are doing nothing! The PAC and MWC would love to get into the LA market! But, no LA area team is doing anything to bring back football! Fullerton has a 10,000 seat stadium but no desire to bring back football. 40,000 students who won’t pay for football. Long Beach has no stadium, but could share the soccer stadium in Carson! But, no desire for football. Northridge no stadium and 40,000 students who won’t pay for football. Irvine and Riverside both have 20,000 or so students who won’t pay for football! And no stadium.
Sac State will only get this if they are the best option on the table for football team 8. Memphis has to be out of the picture. Sac State has the potential to actually deserve this one day but they don't right now.
Sac St would make sense in the MWC due to the proximity to Nevada and San Jose St helping with transportation costs and creating rivalries. Having the Golden 1 Center in the back pocket is going to be a plus.
Do any D1 basketball teams share an NBA arena? I’m not talking about one or two special games held at the NBA Arena. I’m talking all their games or a majority of games being held at the NBA arena! Sac St won’t talk about building an arena, which they needed 20 years ago!
Sacramento has a history of swinging for the fences on big league teams. I was there when we swung for the Oakland A's and Oakland Raider's in the late 1980's. I watched from a distance with the effort to land an MLS franchise. The challenge in Sacramento is that pledges are easy to get from locals, but no deep pockets will cut checks. The "tell" that this effort is in trouble is they have anonymous pledges for NIL but no funding plan yet for the stadium. I love the enthusiasm of the speaker. When they get a mega-stadium naming rights deal for the stadium I will be more positive. The NIL "raise" is all smoke and mirrors.
