Alex, I was at the flea market today, and sold an old can/soda pop top opener to a young boy, who looked through a box of about 20 of them until he found one he liked. I asked him if he likes vintage and antique things, old things to use, or fix them up and make them like new again. He thought for a few moments, then said he does. I told him a little story about a man named Alex Archbold in Canada who was once a young boy like him, who liked neat old things, and bought and resold them, and after a lot of hard work doing what he loves, he is successful at it. He thought it was cool. His father followed up just as we finished our conversation, and asked the boy what he got. For the price of $1, it was a vintage can opener/soda pop opener with a long forgotten store's logo on it. He was very proud of his find, and his dad was quite encouraging. I couldn't help but imagine what life holds for this young man I met today, but I certainly hope it's great things.
That was fun! Something a little different from you. I like the variety you have been doing- but still like the house cleanups the best! Love that shirt! Thanks for the adventure!
That's an old machinist toolbox, you didn't show all the tools but from what I saw you easily have 100 USD just in the measuring tools, they looked vintage, if those two micrometers are in the box you can easily double that, both are vintage and both were and are top of the line.
My dad passed away in 2020. He was a machinist and had his tools as well as my grandfathers tools who was also a machinist. They are still in his garage.
Indeed! Though from the past tools has not really been his forte, nor does he seem interested in learning, and have thus often overlooked even expensive tools which would be easy sellers with good profit. By my estimation from what was shown (if the micrometers are in box, and in good condition) he could easily get more for the contents of the box than the box itself. It would be a real shame if the tools were to vacate the box and it turned into something to hold random little trinkets though.
Dear @@SwitchAndLever 👍👌👏 You are absolutely right. But maybe the great tools will be kind of recycled end up as parts of welded scrap art, sigh. Definitely not the most bad thing that can happen to the quality tools, but it would nevertheless be a pity. Best regards luck and health.
I was a machinist for a few years and I had a bunch of Starrett tools...if you see that brand in decent condition, and can get it cheap, they're a good pickup.
Alex, thank you so much for continuing to video your estate sale trips. It’s fun to go with you. I’m glad your here. I love ❤️ you. Take care and stay safe and beware of false prophets ❤️🎈🕊😇👍🌹🇺🇸🌞🙏🍺
That was a fun shopping trip. I have been watching your video's for a while now and I didn't realize that you shopped at thrift stores along with estate and garage sales. I love that old box especially.
Almost every Machinist I know has one of those wooden boxes! They take great pride in keeping all their sensitive Micrometers etc in them and usually take good care of them in my experience. That rooster might have looked cool in your own kitchen, btw! :)
I have that Scribbage game. I've loved word games since I was a very young girl (and THAT's a LOT of years). I just LOVE your sense of humor; I always have. I cracked up with the Ken doll. I love the hand-made wooden case.
I loved the rooster. And that wooden box with all the drawers. That could be useful for so many things. Seems I've seen one similar in my mother-in-law's home that was my father-in-law's He had a hobby of watch repair. He passed away in 1986.
Dear Mr. Archbold. 👍👌👏 Great purchases as always. I really hope, that the old sturdy lathe (it's not a milling machine) will go to a good home. They are worth quite a lot for someone who needs one. Maybe Josh, as you mentioned already, or Strong's Garage (or to someone they know). Best regards luck and health to all of you.
I love the rooster, the machinists tool box (learned that today), and the heavy ceramic teapot. I’d love to have the talking battleships and erector set for my grandson. Great finds, Alex. I learn so much from you and chat! ❤️ to you and yours.
Thank you for continuing to film every couple of days. I really enjoy this videos. I wish we could have seen what was in those two little boxes that were in the homemade toolbox. Watches, fountain pens, hmmm?🤔
I know in at least my part of the US with a little cleaning that typewriter alone would retail for 150 USD. But then again, almost all metal non-electric typewriters go for over 100 here, even broken ones rarely drop below 80.
That's a machinist chest. The Starrett tools are definitely of value. That goes perfect with the little lathe. Nice score, especially since it's wood. I found a vintage metal one the other day, but it was missing the front cover so I passed on it.

Nice finds. I think that ceramic squirrel on a giant nut is for nuts rather than cookies. : ) That's the same typewriter I learned to type on back in 1969 haha.
My daughter was in a sorority in college that had the squirrel as their mascot. I bought that same little pottery candy dish with the squirrel for her and she still has it. Purchased it in about 1997.
The lamp was an Indigenous inspired. There was a wolf at her side and a eagle at her shoulder. It was very beautiful, my grandmother had one similar to that one. The water coming out of her basket did light up
Glad you asked about the machine lathe, looks like a newer (1950's) Logan to me, that small machinists tool chest is some neat! The typewriter is interesting . . . I wonder why the keys were replaced?
Gotta love a good estate sale! Chain thrift stores locally are so picked over that there's almost no point. Estate sales are far better, unless it's really a moving sale mislabeled as an estate sale and all they have is modern furniture. BTW - micrometers! Some of those sell for real money; if they're the right brands Alex may get close to his money back on those alone.
The blown glass duck would be worth about 30. I do not believe it was Murano though, or it would be around 100. the pontil on the bottom was too rough. Murano is usually polished smooth.

I check out the "Collectible" section every time I walk into Value Village for vintage vinyl dolls and there are TONS of those ceramic dolls just sitting there. Now I have a sister in another state that collects them but she is literally the only person I know who does. Some are cute but most are the cheapies you could get from Family Dollar or Dollar general over the last 20 years or so
I literally Google thrift store finds and why not spend $3 for a ashtray but find out it’s a German made candy dish worth $100 starting bid on eBay!? Yes! Sold! Lol
My grandpa had a tool chest like that. It is made for a machinist or tool and die maker. It is ment to hold small calibers and micrometers, punches etc.
Hey alex just a quick fyi,,, when you see the name "Starrett" on ANY tools or boxes grab it. Pretty sure there is something interesting inside the box in the drawer that might actually fetch you a couple 100. All that stuff is precision machining stuff and some of the micrometers can easily fetch 100's. I recently picked up one of the small calipers (compass lookin things in one drawer) for 10 or 20, the bigger ones can be much more if in good shape. I would def do a search on the individual items before doing a mass sale. Better yet do a vid of all the items and we can chip in on the research 4 ya. Another good vid bro,, keep on keepn !! oh btw luuuuv the house !!! personally I would have put the pool much closer but hey its not my house lol. take care ~tim
The market for Murano glass (even marked glass) is just not there anymore. I am a re-seller and have sold pieces similar to that for less than $20. Like everything else, the value comes and goes on stuff.
I'd have bought the Murano and cribbage set...lots less to wrangle and should make a profit multiple in the 5x range pretty easily. Spending $25 to make $125 is more appealing to me than spending $200 to make $400. Leaves capital (and space) free for other things with high profit multiples.
Alex do you buy just enough to fill up your auction space? At some point will you consider buying a warehouse to store and sort items going up for auction?
Alexander has stated many times in past videos that he would never have a warehouse. He will only buy what he has space for and since Kastner's gave him a dedicated space to use he is all set :)
@@justmeiniowa Thanks, I have never heard Alex say he would never have a warehouse. I wonder though if that will change if he finds the space the auction house gives him is not enough if he wants to buy an entire estate.
@@Bill23799 I don't think he ever would. When he buys those entire households full of stuff he already has outlets to offload most of it without taking it anywhere from the houses himself (charity, other dealers etc). Just saying this from what I have seen in the whole house jobs he has done.

That's interesting about "reusing" the pairs of license plates, Alex. I didn't know you could do that anywhere! Learned something new today!
Surprised me, as well! Pretty sure that’s illegal in every state in the US.
@@Lucinda_Jackson no it's not its legal in the U.S to put the plates on antique cars and motorcycles.
If you're in Calfornia and have a vintage car, you can put vintage plates back on it. Or could a decade ago anyway; the laws may have changed.
