Jill Scott is one of the most amazing vocalists and all round musical minds we have had the pleasure of seeing.
Will never forget the first time I heard this song. I was driving home and listening to a late night radio show that was aired at the time called "black business" or "Esek Sh'hor" in Hebrew. I knew nothing about The Roots or Jill Scott but was immediate hooked. Had to stop the car and just listen and absorb. It was, and still is, mind blowing. What a masterpiece! 8 years later and I love it just as much.

Anyone who cannot vibe with this they are probably being closedminded/stubborn/ignorant. I am a HUUUUGE Erykah fan, more so a fan of hers than Jill's. Jill's performance is haunting. I love it. I heard them do this in Philly and when I heard it on Pandora later it was still amazing. Jill def. got this! Erykah does great as well. Each bring something different to the table. This is actually the original version. Jill wrote the song and sang it but the label felt she wasn’t famous enough at the time and so they had Eryka sing the hook for the radio release.
The Roots for a 6 year period were the best group in the world. From Do You Want More to Things Fall Apart no one did it better. Jill scott just killed this. I love Erika but Jill just crushed this.

Bradford Thornton Yes they are worse. I didn't misspeak, my perception isn't off and I'm not confused. I've listened to plenty of studio and live cuts and in MY OPINION the studio versions tend to be better. The arrangements are tighter, The vocals are in tune and smoother and and the sound of the instruments are deeper. It's true that they do have multiple opportunities to get the perfect track, which is why they make the album. The only exceptions in MY OPINION are this track, Floetry "It's getting late" and U2 "Bad" those cuts are also Amazing live.

Ivy River Nonsense. You don't understand how recordings work do you? Do you have a real understanding of how live music works? Let me answer that for you. No you don't. I'm all for respecting other's opinions but what you said is simply ridiculous. Recordings are constructed in the studio. I'm not saying that the artists/musicians do not perform but it is a *very* different type of performance compared to live. Back in the analog days they would record vocals, drums, guitars separately onto a specified number of recording tracks. These "mono" recordings are then taken and then mixed down to 2 channel stereo. Throw in the possible excess of reverb, processing, delay, effects and only God knows what else and you have yourself a record! Live albums in my experience have more of a pure sound because you actually have all of the musicians in the same area playing simultaneously. Usually the miking is more distant (resulting in a more realistic sound) and the mixing is done in real-time. The only reason why a live album should be worse then a studio recording is if the performance totally sucked or if the sound engineers didn't do their job correctly. In my experience it's usually been the latter. For the record I wasn't trying to be a "presumptuous" a**hole. I have professional acousticians in my family who would tell you the same.

I went to Audio Engineering school and I know how live recordings work...and I agree with Ivy. This is of course a HipHop tging though. when it comes to other music its different. Live recordings can be and usually are better with jazz and rock because everyone is playing off each other and feeling it.
